    I am super excited to introduce to you all something I and my friends have been working on for a long time now: The Genesys Archives! The Genesys Archives is a ttrpg actual play podcast using Fantasy Flight Games's Genesys roleplaying system, centered around storytelling. The Genesys Archives is currently available on Youtube, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Anchor, Breaker, Radiopublic, and soon to be more.

    Our first campaign is set in the Unseen World, an urban fantasy setting of my own creation that some of you might recognize, especially if you are veterans here on the forums. Specifically, our campaign follows a gang of mortals, semi-mortals, and supernatural misfits as they try to survive in Las Vegas, the City of Sin. The player characters include Joan, a tiny, sassy young Magus who works as a bartender at the local faerie bar, Elianna, a regal and composed half-fae socialite, Voltaire, a suave and confident fixer for the satanic mob, Cayden, a world-weary monster hunter/bounty hunter, and Rian, a much fresher-faced monster hunter. They are brought together as a string of strange murders risks tipping the fragile balance between the supernatural factions of the city.

    We will be releasing new episodes every Friday. An introduction and the first episode are currently available.

    This is cool! Wondering what do you think of adding deathknights and demon hunters into the book as like “expansions”/“supplements”?

    In the career section I talk about how you can edit the existing careers to emulate specific types of people you find on Azeroth. A Deathknight is basically a Warrior, but you trade out Leadership and Brawl for Arcane & Knowledge (Forbidden). You would also need the Dark Insight talent to turn that Arcane into necromancy, and if you really wanted, you could talk with your GM about having an edited variant of the Cursed Runeblade (pg 68), since those are the iconic weapons of a Deathknight (or just a sword with Orb of Frost, Orb of Shadow, or Orb of Venom). A Demon Hunter would be similar to Rogue, but you would switch out the Charm, Cool, Streetwise, and Skulduggery with Fel, Knowledge (Forbidden), Perception, and Vigilance, and of course you would be wielding two warglaives.

  3. Hello again everyone! It's been a while since I've been active on here, so some of you might not know me, but I created the Adventures in Azeroth (Warcraft) and Adventures in Middle-Earth (Lord of the Rings) settings for Genesys, and way back when Genesys was brand spanking new I made a little series of settings under the title of "The OmniSphere." One of those worlds was the Unseen World, an urban fantasy setting.

    Well, after a long absence, I'm back with The Unseen World 2.0, a revamped urban fantasy sourcebook set in a fully realized urban fantasy world, complete with unique supernatural factions (utilizing the Favor system from Shadow of the Beanstalk), a new Wealth optional rule, an Agency system, and an in-depth look at Las Vegas, the City of Sin, and the various supernatural factions, threats, and individuals that can be found within the city. This book has everything you could want for playing an urban fantasy Genesys campaign, complete with a ready to go city to fight and/or be monsters in.

    I'd welcome any feedback you have for the pdf, and I hope some of you enjoy running your own campaigns in the setting!

    The Unseen World is also the setting of the first season of an upcoming podcast, The Genesys Archives, coming in August/September 2020.

    Thanks! And about materials like Thorium and other ones from old expansions?

    Take care and please and if its possible to aid you just say it ;)

    I've thought about it, but Thorium and Elementium and Mithril and a bunch of other metals are basically the same from a mechanical standpoint. Not much I could do to differentiate them. They are all just nigh-indestructible.

    So I have a question. I'm wanting to make a Darkspear Shadow Hunter. What magic skill do you see them using?

    I see them utilizing Hexes, Heals, and Lightning Bolts. It makes sense for them to use the standard Priest skill utilizing Will. Now obviously, a Darkspear Troll's Willpower is a 1! EEK!

    Do we just give them access to the Priest spells, but tie their ability to Cunning? That seems the most logical to me.

    Shadow Hunters and Witch Doctors are in an interesting position. You could play them like a shadow priest, which would be the Light skill and the Dark Insight talent, or you could play them as a shaman (which, since you mention lightning bolts, seems like the route you are leaning towards). In the shaman case, you can just choose the Elemental skill, which is already Cunning-based.

    Thank you so much for this!

    Question, in a future, will you expand material or craftman lists?

    Thanks and epic work!

    PS: Anyone knows about a SW to Genesys conversion? Thanks!

    I might be expanding materials and craftsmanship lists if Shadowlands and other future expansions introduce interesting or unique materials for making weapons.

  7. Has anyone tried to figure out what the interior layout of the Crucible is (the Jedi training ship from Clone Wars)? I've recently started a new campaign and I plan on the PCs to get the Crucible as their ship later on, but I'm having a bit of difficulty with the interior layout.

    Best I can figure, there are at least two levels: The main level where the docking hatches and escape pods are, and the narrow, upper level where the cockpit is. But is there a third, lower level where the cargo hold is, or is the cargo hold on the main level? Does that entry ramp go into the cargo hold, or into the hallways?

    The episode of Clone Wars where they wander around the ship hasn't been super helpful because it mostly just shows a lot of running around hallways, without much frame of reference.

  8. I’ve recently been working on updating and revamping my old OmniSphere settings, and I was just finishing up with the urban fantasy one when I found out about the Genesys Foundry. I’ve looked at the Foundry site, but it doesn’t seem to say much about what stuff is allowed. Can I put something I’ve made on GM Binder into the Foundry, or does it need to be some other type of document? How exactly does this work?

    I just recently finished the entire Mistborn series (both trilogies) and one of my first thoughts was "wow! This would be a fun setting to play with Genesys"

    So it's awesome to see others who have that same idea.

    That being said, I don't think the bookkeeping with metal vials necessarily works with this system. I think it would be enough to say that a vial has the 'Limited Ammo' quality, thus limiting its uses a number of times, and to say that the contents of a vial are assumed to be enough to last a single encounter. From there, you can use Advantage/Threat or Triumph/Despair to influence the narrative whenever necessary. For instance, a few threat might mean that you suddenly fall ill because you realize the vial you bought from that street vendor was actually not the exact compound it needed to be. A Triumph might allow you to 'steal' an opponent Misting's vials from them,.

    Don't get me wrong, I really like how much thought you've put into this but you have to consider most combat encounters in this narrative dice system typically last 3-4 rounds. Anything longer than that and they tend to drag on.

    Much like conflict in the Mistborn series, conflict in Genesys is largely supposed to be narrative. The idea is to get away from the crunchiness of tactical combat a la D&D and to embrace a more narrative approach to conflict resolution. Describe what you're doing and how you do - make the roll to determine whether you succeed or fail, and then resolve any leftover Advantage/Threat based on the specific circumstances before you.

    I am well aware of how Genesys works. I’ve made more setting books for Genesys by this point than FFG have, and I’ve been running campaigns in those settings since Genesys first came out. However, keeping track of your metal reserves IS an important part of the Mistborn universe. I’m also well aware of how long combat encounters typically take, and if you pay attention to the charges, the only metals that have 1 vial lasting longer than that are non-combat oriented metals like Copper. This is by no means the final product, as I am still working out exactly how to make Allomancy and Feruchemy work, but this is the best answer I have right now. In this case, the amount of detail the author put into the magic system makes it harder to convert into Genesys.

  10. Version 1.2 is now up! I've had a bit of a hiatus from setting creation to play & GM more, but since I am doing another Warcraft campaign soon I decided to come back and make some edits and fixes to this document that I've been meaning to for a while. I mostly just fixed a couple mistakes and added a bunch of talents. I hope you enjoy it!

  11. I’ve started work on a new series of setting PDFs focusing on the Cosmere, the universe in which the majority of Brandon Sanderson’s various high fantasy book series (Mistborn, Elantris, Stormlight Archive, etc) take place, and I will be starting with Mistborn. School and other issues will be taking up a lot of my time, so I’m not sure how soon I will be able to start posting the PDFs on here for you all, but any ideas, suggestions, or support I can get from you would be great. To start out, I have been fiddling with the different Allomantic metals and this is what I have come up with so far for their effects:

    1 Vial = 12 Charges (Allomancy)

    Iron/Lurcher

    * Burn: 3 Charges = 1 round

    - Move, Defend (Others only), uses Discipline

    * Flare: 9 Charges = 1 round

    - Pull as if 1 Silhouette Heavier

    Steel/Coinshot

    * Burn: 3 Charges = 1 round

    - Move, Attack, Defend, uses Discipline

    - Hitting deals damage equal to your Encumbrance

    * Flare: 9 Charges = 1 round

    - Push as if 1 Silhouette Heavier

    Pewter/Thug/Pewterarm

    * Burn: 4 Charges = 1 round

    - Increase Brawn & Agility by 1, suffer no strain for second maneuver, 1 ranged/melee defense

    * Flare: 12 Charges = 1 round

    - Increase Brawn & Agility by 2, suffer no strain for second maneuver, can make third maneuver, 2 ranged/melee defense

    Tin/Tineye

    * Burn: 1 Charge = 1 round

    - Increase ability of Perception/Vigilance check once

    * Flare: 3 Charges = 1 round

    - Increase ability of Perception/Vigilance check twice

    Zinc/Rioter

    * Burn: 2 Charge = 1 round

    - Increase ability of Social check once

    * Flare: 6 Charges = 1 round

    - Increase ability of Social check twice

    Brass/Soother

    * Same as Rioter

    Bronze/Seeker

    * Burn: 1 Charge = 1 round

    - Sense Allomancy within Medium Range

    * Flare: 3 Charges = 1 round

    - Sense Allomancy within Long Range

    Copper/Coppercloud

    * Burn: 1 Charge = 1 round

    - Hide Allomancy within Medium Range

    * Flare: 3 Charges = 1 round

    - Hide Allomancy within Long Range

    Aluminum/Aluminum Gnat

    * Burn: All Charges = Instantaneous

    - Eliminate all Allomantic reserves in the body

    * Flare: N/A

    Duralumin/Duralumin Gnat

    * Burn: 4 Charges = 1 round

    - Uses all other metals currently burning in one big blast, using up all Charges, effect depends on number of Charges available

    * Flare: N/A

    Chromium/Leecher

    * Burn: 4 Charges = 1 round

    - Eliminates all Allomantic reserves in another individual’s body

    * Flare: N/A

    Nicrosil/Nicroburst

    * Burn 4 Charges = 1 round

    - Uses all other metals currently burning in another individual’s body in one big blast, using up all Charges, effect depends on number of Charges available

    * Flare: N/A

    Gold/Augur

    * Burn: 3 Charges = 1 round

    - Shows past version of self

    * Flare: N/A

    Electrum/Oracle

    * Burn: 3 Charges = 1 round

    - Shows spectral images of immediate future, adds 1 ranged/melee defense

    - If an enemy is burning Atium, all the benefits they gain from it are canceled against you

    * Flare: N/A

    Cadmium/Pulser

    * Burn: 3 Charges = 1 hour/1 round

    - Creates a bubble of time out into Short Range. Inside the bubble, when 1 round passes, an hour would have passed outside.

    * Flare: 9 Charges = 2 hours/1 round

    - Creates a bubble of time out into Medium Range. Inside the bubble, when 1 round passes, 2 hours would have passed outside.

    Bendalloy/Slider

    * Burn: 4 Charges = 1 round/3 rounds

    - Creates a bubble of time out into Engaged Range. Inside the bubble, when 3 rounds pass, 1 round would have passed outside

    * Flare: 12 Charges = 1 round/6 rounds

    - Creates a bubble of time out into Short Range. Inside the bubble, when 6 rounds pass, 1 round would have passed outside

    Atium/Seer

    * Burn: 6 Charges = 1 round

    - Shows spectral images of everyone else’s immediate future, upgrading the ability of all checks against them by 4 and upgrading the difficulty of all checks they make against you by 4

    - If an enemy is burning Atium, all the benefits they gain from it are canceled against you and vice versa

    * Flare: N/A

    Why not? It’s encumbrance, not carrying weight. Encumbrance measures the bulk of an item, and a sil0 creature doesn’t have that much less “bulk-capacity” than a sil1.

    in addition, if a sil0 creature didn’t use the 5+Br rule, it would be noted in the Small ability description. It’s not, and thus there are no special encumbrance rules for them.

    Remember, I am specifying their Encumbrance rating, not their Encumbrance Threshold. Gnomes, Hobbits, & etc might be able to carry about the same amount of stuff as other people, but they themselves are usually very easy to carry. You see characters easily throwing these little guys over their shoulders ALL THE TIME in various media. They are OBVIOUSLY much lighter and easier to carry than your average human. So while their Encumbrance Threshold might be the same, their Encumbrance rating should not.

  13. So a new issue came up with a gnome: What Encumbrance are Silhouette 0 characters? The 5+ Brawn rule doesn’t seem like it would make much sense for a 3ft tall midget unless they were made of freaking rocks or something. Typically creatures of that size (like Ewoks) are portrayed as very light.

    So what Encumbrance (not Encumbrance Threshold) would a Silhouette 0 character be?

    Just to be picky, there are quite a few Elven spellcasters, even though they're not wizards. I agree that a PC can't "work toward" becoming a wizard - that's like "working toward" becoming an Ent! :)  But they could still learn magic - from memory, there are references to non-wizard, non-Elven spellcasters in LOTR.

    The “spellcasters” in LoTR are quite different from your spellcasters in most settings. Tolkien’s magic is not at all like most fantasy settings. If you read the pdf, you will see that I added in rules for more accurate LoTR-style magic.
