Copes got a reaction from Soulfly626 in Copes' Army Painting - New Painter - Imperial Army - 883rd Legion
    Hey guys,

So I finally finished my first batch of Stormtroopers and thought I would share. I started painting miniatures about 3 months ago - basically in preparation for legion. I started with a single Imperial Assault Stormtrooper, which was pretty miserable. After that I painted about 5 or 6 Zombicide zombies. Outside of that, zero experience, although I have messed around with terrain painting as well.

Anyway, I'm building an Imperial Army I figured that over time I could post my work here. Maybe after long enough we'll see some improvement. I also have borderline OCD, so I'm spending a stupid amount of time on details that people likely can't see.

Anyway, here is my first squad of Stormtroopers. I'm debating if I should do the other troopers in the box, or move on to Speeder Bikes. I'm leaning towards Troopers, since I started to get into a rhythm with these guys and I expect that a 2nd round wouldn't take as long.

Criticism welcome. I mostly followed Sorastro's guide. I think I overdid it on the weathering and didn't like the colour I chose (going for a Sandy / Desert battle look) so I might switch that up next time.

Copes got a reaction from The Jabbawookie in Double Commander Slow Push Heavy Imperials
    Hey guys,

I'm trying to play with different lists for Imperials outside of the Vader / 5 DLTs / 3 Bikes lists that seem to be considered the optimal way to play.

I've been thinking about a list that essentially splits your army into two forces, each with a commander and a heavy-damage unit. The army would slowly move forward on the battlefield, creating a dangerous wall for enemies to advanced past. I think this army is optimal for objective capturing and holding, only needing to push about halfway across the battlefield. Theoretically if you can maintain control of 50% of the battlefield, you should be able to control the majority of objectives by turn 6. I think this army would be less effective needing to push into your opponents zone simply because of slow movement speeds.

    Here is the list:
    Darth Vader (195)
Force Choke (5) Force Reflexes (15) Saber Throw (10) General Veers (90)
    AT-ST (195)
    AT-ST Mortar Launcher (10) DW-3 Concussive Grenade Launcher (15) Stormtrooper (44)
    DLT-19 Stormtrooper (24) Stormtrooper (11) Stormtrooper (44)
    DLT-19 Stormtrooper (24) Stormtrooper (11) Snowtrooper (40)
    Snowtrooper (10) Snowtrooper (40)
    Snowtrooper (10) TOTAL: 798/800

4 units of troopers will hopefully be enough to capture objectives. Vader and Snowtroopers move slowly across one side of the board, availing of the Move->Move->Attack or Move->Aim->Attack action sequences they both have through a free attack after a move action. They should keep pace with each other. Elsewhere, Veers adds to the effectiveness of an AT-ST that can attack anywhere on the board at any time, pelting the opponent from a distance at first and only getting deadlier as it advances. Its flank is covered by Stormtroopers, who also act to protect Veers. Stormies or Snowtroopers that are more central on the board can reinforce one side or the other if it is struggling.

It makes sense in my head but I have yet to effectively test it on TTS, and obviously Veers and Snowtroopers aren't out yet for real life play. Would love some feedback and some thought - I want to know how this list will lose from people who have played more of this game than me.

    Thanks!

Rebel strike team is incredibly interesting. I like how you have a couple of different configuration options. 16 points for a 2-unit group with a heavy weapon seems pretty solid to me.

Copes got a reaction from Ghost Dancer in Stop with "scum and villainy" faction
I'm all for more factions but I genuinely want to see them as armies that make sense. I see no reason why this game won't stretch across eras. Republic vs Separatists, First Order vs Resistance... I will bet money that one of those conflicts will be introduced in the next two years.

However, "Scum and Villainy" does not make sense as an army. More often than not the various players were rivals, not allies. So I hope they don't create armies that way. Boba Fett is not a military commander, he is a bounty hunter. If anything I'd rather he be an expensive specialist unit that can be hired by any faction.

I'm conflicted. As someone who wants to play Empire, I naturally want to paint my Storm Troopers and Speeder Bike first.
I want to use them They seem easier That said, I don't want to have the units I'm using being the worse models, so part of me thinks I should start with the Rebel Troopers / ATRTs.

I'm definitely saving Luke and Vader for last, given that I want them to be quality.

    Decisions decisions.

Haha its not on a table, I've only got a photo of the pieces laid out on the floor, but here is my core set 3x3 setup currently.

I'm planning to include the 8 barriers from the core set, and still build some abandoned stacks of supply crates, etc. Eventually hoping to mount on something 3x3 and have a full on desert board. Or I may start over - these were really practice pieces to see how hard it is to make desert terrain.

Copes got a reaction from Rammstein117 in Finding 800 points to be quite restrictive
I think this is a key point. Not being able to fit everything is the point. If I want to use Vader AND an AT-ST, then I have to be much smarter about how I am using them to control the board, since I won't have as many units to swarm.

Alternatively, being able to field a Commander and a boatload of Stormtroopers will make it easy to spread out across the board, but you sacrifice fire power.
2 AT-STs likely means you have to use cheaper Commanders.

Sacrifice is part of the strategy.

That crashed AT-ST is fantastic. The stormtrooper helmets on the sticks are a phenomenal touch. Very, very well done!

Copes got a reaction from twincast in 3rd Faction?? Hutts or a Crime syndicate
A third faction shouldn't be a specific crime syndicate, but just "Scum and Villainy" in general if they go that route.

I would prefer the faction be neutral, or "hireable" by the Rebels and Empire, but I would also be content with them as a third faction.

That said, my preference would be Republic and Separatists. I want a Battle Droid army so incredibly baddly.

Copes got a reaction from Timinater in Split a core set or keep both sides
I'll be buying a core set and keeping both sides so I can play small skirmishes with anyone who wants to try the game. My finance isn't into this sort of thing, but she would definitely play from time to time. I have friends who would as well.

I have a buddy who is also getting the game, and is planning to play the other faction. We could split two cores... but the reality is if we want to play 800 point game he can use my Rebels and I can use his Imps and we're in the exact same situation we would be if we split. Instead, we might as well just keep our respective sides and each have the ability to play smaller skirmishes with other people.
There will be rulesets for 400 point games. So the core is decent to have I think.
