Anybody working on their new mini's from Sanctum of Twilight? I spent an hour last night getting these started, but still very much WIP. Going for a dry/husky look as seen on the monster tile complete with OSL from the eyes and mouth.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm flattered, but I don't think I'm ready for commission work. Maybe someday, but for now I just do it to relax at night and to embellish my board game nights.

Right now I'm basically using cardboard and papertowels for palette material. I'm also not entirely sure how thin the paint should be or how long to let a coat dry before adding the next layer. I'm not sure what it would do if the paint wasn't entirely dry, but I feel like I paint pretty slowly, so when I finish the base coat, usually the part I started on seems dry enough to keep painting the next coat, or the wash, or whatever, but I'm kinda just guessing.
Check out various paint brands too. I love Reaper MSP the best because it comes in droppers and has great consistency. 90% of the time you can paint straight out of the bottle and it will be fine, or you can water it down / use a wet pallete for longer sessions or more delicate/fine details. Citadel is way to chunky to me, you HAVE to water it down to use it.

I've come from re-basing Imperial Assault where all the miniatures are moulded with bases. So, I had lots of practice. I use a hobby scalpel. Basically, I angle the scalpel so it will slice as close to the base as possible. If the miniature has toes, I start at that end of the foot as occasionally you do get a little of the foot remaining on the base as you slice through, and it's best if the tiny part that remains on the base is unseen at the back. (I have a Darth Vader who has very thin toes on one foot when I used to start cutting at the heel end). Also, use a sort of see-saw motion to slowly cut, because if the blade slices too fast, it's another way of accidentally leaving some foot/boot on the base. So far it hasn't happened to any of my Mansions of Madness miniatures since doing it this way. So, sharp blade, see-saw motion, slowly.
Which glue did you use?
I used super glue on my monsters. They seem to be holding up good thus far, but occasionally the litko base gets marred if I use too much.
I got 4 minis in simple green now. Sounds like you are painting them, varnish, etc and then slice off the base at the very end.

Hey there! Looking forward to see you paint all the minis! Great job by the way too.
I myself am about to embark on painting all the investigators, but I'm debating if I should rebase them or not.. All my monsters are done, and on litko bases, but the investigators has me a little more hesitant to transition. Was it pretty easy to remove them with Xacto or razor blade? A few characters like Duke from Ashcan Pete's mini has me a little worried.
Thanks!

Thanks Totgeboren and spookymizu for the comments! I've officially reached a milestone with having all released monsters painted!
Now I start on the investigators... all 30 of them. I did pick up the FFG book "Investigators of Arkham Horror" to help with inspiration and color pallets/themes. Here's to hoping the much smaller surface area means I can knock out 1 every night or two.

Star Vampire!
These creatures hail from outer space, and remain invisible until they feast on fresh blood!

Fantasy flight gave me two models, so why not try to different paint schemes? The Red/blue was based on the monster token art. Early on it was looking like a spiderman paint theme, but I think I departed that resemblance in the end. Blood effects come from UHU glue mixed with both Tamiya clear red and Citadel blood for the blood god.
I may add some additional "effects" to the purplish one. Haven't decided what yet, but sometimes less is more. Or maybe he just hasn't eaten..... yet!

I think I am finished with the Lloigor

This is a pretty large and detailed model. Kudos for Fantasy flight for the upgrade in plastic!
I attempted to replicate the colors of a desert scorpion. I left the main skin matte (Testors Dullcoat) but did add back some pearlescence and gloss to the mouth tube (?) and claws/spikes.

First let me say, I am digging (and very envious) of your painting. Great job! I also cut my mini painting teeth with Sorastro, but you are definitely a bit further along than I am. Those star vampires look killer! Awesome blending.
I too am struggling a bit with the Lloigor. I started with a grey underbelly but it just wasn't looking right to me. Now I'm deep into the Khaki and working on shadows and highlights. Here's my WIP link so I won't clutter up your thread with my pictures:

I figured I would share my painted figures with everyone as the ones you all have posted were a great inspiration for me. As of today, I have all released 2nd edition monsters painted except for the Star Vampires and Lloigor. Next I plan to do the investigators with a goal of one every night or two.
I exclusively used Stynylrez primer, and Reaper MSP paint for the primary paint jobs, and a couple Citadel technical paint, and Tamiya clear red for some effects.I've learned a lot while painting these and other figures, and you can probably tell which ones were finished earlier on. In my eagerness to get started painting (so I could get them onto the table) I left way too many mold lines, but I'm still happy with the lot as a whole.

My turn! Or is it? When we hit the continue button the app just gave us another task to roll the dices and fight the monster... This is quite confusing to us...Does an attack mean a fight till death(monster or investigator) with just spending one action point? Or do we have to leave the "attack" mode another way to continue the game?
If your wife used her last action to attack but not kill the monster, then it would certainly be your turn next. The app will stay inside the monster menu with the last creature attacked ready to be attacked again if you so choose (and are able). It is entirely up to the players to track how many actions they have used or remaining. You can also enter and exit the various menus, but be extra cautious to any options that show the "action" icon. Clicking one of those will burn an action.
So you hit "continue" to close out the test and possible results you have just resolved. You can follow up with another attack or evade, or you can leave the monster menu to do other stuff. Just click the tentacle button exit out of the monster section and get back to the main map.

I noticed that the latest expansion has better quality plastic too. It's stiffer and hardly any gaps or mold lines. The monsters also stay put in their bases much better. The Lloigor monster sculpt is especially clean. I barely had to do a thing to it.
And while I have painted all of the other monsters, I've yet to tackle the investigators. So I can't comment on any size comparisons....

Thanks for the comments! Nothing exposes mold lines, gaps and flash better than after you get primer or paint on the mini! Lol.
I'm still kicking myself for not prepping the minis better, but live and learn for next time. I did remove flash, but I don't think my deep ones had much. The Star spawn had plenty around the tentacles if I recall correctly.
Green stuff works great on filling in gaps. The Dunwich Horror is especially bad with a huge trench around it.
The star spawn veins were fun to paint. It was not dry brushed at all, but instead highlighted with a detail brush. You can get away with brush edge highlighting in a few cases, but the majority is freehand.
