IGN: SW TLJ's 6 Biggest WTF questions (SPOILERS)
Khazadune replied to Giorgio's topic in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG
The point Mullet was making was actually that the “story” of the truth behind how the bombs drop wasn’t simply gravity as several posts had commented bc it wouldn’t work. There are official stats for the B-17 which do mention the tech behind the act, the debate began bc I said that the film could have taken two seconds to say something as a nod to the “pseudo-science” behind the tech. “Release the magbombs!” This leaves the viewer with a sense of how it’s working by way of techno-babble. It’s probably the most overused device in any sci-fi franchise because most fans care about and understand the science behind what they are seeing. And again, the point of my post starting all this was not to discuss specific moments but rather the sense that much of the fandom splitting plot points could have been handled by simply applying slightly different scripting or some quick adjustments. Many have pointed out that the OT had its share of faux pas, and that you have to accept those as par for the course in a movie about space wizards and light swords. That’s also true. As fans we should be able to ask for a movie with as few plot problems and inconsistencies as possible and yet be able to see one another’s perspectives on them. -

In reading up on this account it indeed shows not only a demotion of Commander to Captain but of Wing Commander, ensuring that indeed he is removed from the senior command position and you are indeed correct in your assertion that he is no longer in the position. (Something that while stated has caused confusion again and needed further exploration to identify, unfortunately) -

Exactly. Like most areas of the film it was a sacrifice of content for plot. That was why I went to some length to discuss ways in which the same plot objectives could have been reached with less problematic elements, but I’m afraid it’s a less than receptive audience. People who do not have open minds do not make for good discussions. Thanks for bringing some sanity back to the otherwise toxic discussion. -

It might be possible that FO was printed in the US as they no longer have a preorder ability for this book while they do for the three others. Might it be that they were unsure what the final sticker price might have to be to make up the preorders they had already taken in at a lower price point? Time will tell. But I’m stoked to get a chance to finally have my Engineer book! -

Khazadune replied to Giorgio's topic in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG
Demoted or not, he’s still the CAG. Doesn’t mean I care whether or not they told him, but everyone cares so much about his rank they forget that rank isn’t necessarily important to ones duties in the military. (The obvious and next point is that he doesn’t have a flight group anymore) That still doesn’t remove his position as CAG. Only by directly replacing him in the position would he have been effectively out of the chain of command. That said, there may have been other reasons; unsure if there is a mole, didn’t like him, it was a tense situation, she was filling in and didn’t have the luxury of running everything by her command staff etc etc. I don’t need to debate it, I get where each side is coming from. But we cannot talk about military positions and ranks as if they are synonymous. -

Show me how the bombs fall in zero G? Yes, that is what I said. Show me. Because what was shown was not consistent with showing or telling me. I can invent reasons, as we have people doing ever since the movie came out, but what I asked for was indeed to show me. Take for example the first scene in Firefly when they go to lay explosives on the hull of a ship. They use a gel so that the charge will ignite in zero G. I was not told anything, but I saw it. Your argument actually makes my point and I thank you for it. -

IGN: SW TLJ's 6 Biggest WTF questions (SPOILERS)

I keep seeing people claim that the hyperspace jump ahead of the fleet by even a few of the FO ships would have overshot them by a ton. What’s bad about that? Good do it. Overshoot the **** out of it. Then plot a course back to exactly where you want to be. Who cares if you overshoot in the beginning, you can still turn around and jump back in somewhere along the projected course. We’ve seen Anakin in TCW jump in to a system directly inside a ships shields. We have seen the Falcon jump into a planet. There is no reason they couldn’t have done this. Now if you want to hold the opinion that they didn’t think they needed to, well that’s a possibility. Except, Kylo is portrayed as the galaxy’s most impatient force user.... Let’s face some facts with this movie. There are a ton of holes in its plot. You can think what you want about them, that’s your right to your own opinion. But as fans we should ask for more, really. It’s not that hard to have someone look over the script for this kind of blatant problem and either add in a subtle reference to it, or change it. Imagine if we had seen a scene where Holdo is in a senior Officers briefing, without demoted Poe, and without hearing her plan we are instead informed, “remember, don’t share the details of this plan, we don’t know where the enemy might be getting their intel and we can’t trust anyone.” Simple and effective. What if, Holdo’s plan called for the ships to slingshot around the planet, and while they are behind its bulk, they use the line of sight issues to drop craft to the surface? The ship comes back around and the FO targets it, but it accelerates (at sublight) and rams Snooks ship. They could have still had their double cross reveal the plan, and the battle take place etc. These are only some of the many plot holes that could have been simply addressed. Remember the people complaining about the B-17 bombs falling? Have a pilot mention the bombs as magnetic or better yet, place them in a carousel and have it propel them down and out like in the TIE bombers. Simple things. It’s not that it wasn’t an exciting movie. It was. It just needed more polish before going out to clean up what should have been obvious flaws so that people could be talking about performances and lines rather than plot points. As a fan I feel that the introduction of new strategies and technologies etc. need to be considered for their impact on the greater universe. As many have pointed out, you open a can of worms when you introduce FTL ships as missiles, or active tracking through hyperspace, or communications while in hyperspace, or hyperspace jumps into planetary atmospheres etc. I don’t want to argue these points. I’m sure there are rebuttals that exist, I’ve read them from quite a few TLJ apologists and I disagree with them, as you disagree with my issues. Let’s just all agree we want the best for the universe and hope that such obvious missteps will be avoided in IX. -

It seems slightly OP to have so much positive and so little downside. I’d add in something to compensate. Maybe a reduction in XP to 90-100 Range or add in a deficit that must be overcome for 10 XP or left in place. -
An Imperial Core Rulebook?
Khazadune replied to Richard_Thomas_'s topic in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG
My GM recently ran us through a few sessions in a TIE Interceptor Squadron. He added things like medals and awards and rank advancement that really added something. To see official rules for that would be interesting. I would add in a few starting locations; an imperial academy and some NPCs, a military station in the Outer Rim, an maybe a Gladiator Class or something similar. Put some fancy maps of layouts and that is a nice start. Should also focus on Imperial Center (Coruscant) and it’s key strategic elements. Could offer a few of these planets in this vein if interest and space allow. Similar to the region books. Add in a couple of substantially different imperial trees each found within the careers of those presented in AOR CRB. Then more droids, gear, and vehicles all straight out of imperial armouries; (examples, although some may already be present in material) mouse droid specs, Viper probe droid and Iden’s Battlefront 2 version. TIE advance, AT-AT Walkers, Imperial Speeder Bikes, Troop Transports, Bulk Cruisers etc. Armour could include; Jet trooper, Scout Trooper, Jungle Trooper, Snow Trooper and Desert Trooper and TIE fighter pilot Armor. Weapons that we see imps use in the films like the DL-19 (or w/e) and such are begging for this book. Gear could include secure communications in stormtrooper helmets, scuba and space attachments for plastoid Armor to allow for scuba and space faring troopers. ISB specific interrogation tools, spy gear etc. Shock collars and subjugation implants for Wookiee’s etc. Add in some ISB cybernetically upgraded beasts like Nexu and a few choice Imperial mounts (dewbacks?). Should have some sample imperial checkpoints or a system for designing them. Customs, prisons, military bases, shipyards, ISB facilities. With a system for determining surveillance, security and responses. As in the quoted text above - Imperial Duty, Backstories and something else that’s we use in our home brew that is truly RP spectacular... home locations. Add in this feature as an optional starting benefit. It offers one rank in a skill, and one in a talent. Each Homeworld location is tied to a specific set of bonuses; I.E. “Between the stars” One rank in either Piloting - Space, Knowledge: Outer Rim or Astrogation. One talent chosen between Galaxy Mapper Or Well Travelled. (Still cannot train above two ranks in any skill off creation) This gives the book a selling feature beyond its wealth of imperial focus and offers plenty of ready information for smart GM’s to drop in to existing games. This brings it to about a 220 page length, and ensures it’s worth the investment. Are these things absolutely needed to play as Imperials? No. But they make it easier on the GM’s and offer some unique flavour and perspective. Let’s face it, we’d all buy this book. -

I do have a passport and indeed there is a company something like Detroit PO Box Inc or something or other, but I have not tried it yet, although I have considered it. It’s a shame to have to do this just for FFG when I routinely buy things in the US without nearly as high a tack on for delivery and shipping. I don’t get the difference between Paizo and FFG for example in this. Ideally, FFG would find a third party retailer in Canada to sell their works, like many other companies in the same business. -

I know the financial crunch pretty well myself when delivery charges are equal or greater than the cost of each book... but can we not pre-order 3 of the 4? I know I’ve preordered Ciphers and Dawn. (But I don’t know if they charge now or later, which might make this a moot point.) Either way, I would be a fan of FFG working on its Canadian delivery methods, there is no way that one book should be 50$ in shipping when I can literally see Detroit from my house. -

No one said the rules were gonna be overpowered, but even if they are able to provide better ships than the standard available in the books I say why not? As you rank higher in your skills you take huge leaps from a rank 1 to a rank 5 in a particular skill. Those rank 5 mechanics are among the greatest minds in the galaxy, so it makes sense that they can do more. -

Yeah, I’m really surprised by that as well and I second that email suggestion. My cynical brother said “well why not write a letter than” sarcastically, as if it was a bad idea... but ****, at this point they need to know what fans want. Let us know if you hear something. -

Any business relationship is just that. You can disagree with me if you like but it is the cornerstone of the business model. Otherwise companies wouldn't bother paying people to listen to complaints and to try and address customer concerns. This isn't a new "entitlement" but actually stems from the understanding that without customers a business doesn't exist. Obviously there are some, yourself included, who disagree with this... and that's fine. You are allowed to disagree and to think of the business relationship you have with the company as merely transactional. I'm sure they prefer that. But forums like this are designed because the company wants to foster relationships. I have now sufficiently beat the dead horse and so will leave it at that. -

Sure, that's an option, and I'm sure some people have chosen to go buy Pathfinder or D&D products that come out when they say they are etc. But that's not what was being discussed. It's not a matter of what is 'owed' as you and Daze keep coming back to. I'm not asking for the sun and the moon here but simple communication from a company to its customers. That isn't what I feel I'm owed, or what others are suggesting, but simply that as a standard business practice it is a responsible business practice to state what you can and when so you keep customers feeling like their valued and their time and concern is worth being spent on the product. I think this is the central issue that you and others have missed. -

Troll. Anyways, let's leave Tomi Lahren to implode on his own impotent rage while the adults talk. Yeah, domestic printing may not be as profitable but it can be done, my own books earn a 15-25 dollar margin on a 50$ book depending on research time. Their volume should increase that margin and with a more readily availabkr supply to meet the demand they could obstensibly see equal to or greater profits. If a reliable foreign printer/shipper arrangement came up they could always have additional prints done by them. As far as a long term business model, the company sure seems to miss that there are windows to hold customers when the market is so saturated. -
