  1. My engineer can create get enough Schematics off the first roll or two that additional constructions have no threat. So adding in this talent after that means I might get enough Advantage to really bump the item up. Also, I could use that for the first versions that I don’t intend to keep so that I can make more Schematics and don’t care about the threat. It is a trade off, but with this talent, the inventive talents to add boosts and speak binary ranks you can become a god crafter. I’m up to an average of 17 Advantage per roll. (Journeyman tools and a specialty workshop adding in other bonuses... it’s pretty awesome)
  2. Considering that Sienar is building hundreds of ships in that shipyard simultaenously they need many more people. The rules are built around what anyone needs to build a single ship. Therefore Sienar still requires 5,000 people to build that ship as the PCs. Competent GMs would still require players to get quality materials and to source plans. One way to think about the quality of ships produced by established manufacturers would be like thinking about stock vehicles vs custom ones. Ships designed for mass production would be base models designed to maximize profits and not necessarily inclusive of the very best technology and elements. When GM produces cars they are streamlined so that they eliminate common issues but they also aren’t as tricked out as they could be. To explain my characters understanding of advanced ship designs he worked for CEC as a Chief Rigger for years prior to defecting. As a Verpine he was part of a small hive working there and greatly benefited from their hive mind mentality. His personal designs never met with Imperial approval because they were too “unorthodox.” Generally parties aren’t going to create more than a few ships so something like this is probably pretty easy to explain away. But in the end, I guess it comes down to how you see it.
  3. Well tbh, there was a galaxy spanning conflict that resulted in the near extinction of the Jedi Order and the collapse of representational democracy for almost every system for nearly twenty years.... and this conflict revolves around Droids fighting Clone Troopers. Could a Tusken Raider or Gamorrean fit under an existing AOR Soldier Career? Yeah, probably, but for the Clone Trooper to not be singled out as unique in the history of the galaxy? That would be a crime.
  4. Starkiller Base is the worst named and worst conceived thing in Star Wars since the Sun Crusher, whether it’s Ilum or not.
  5. It might not have been the most capable in the galaxy but it was also chosen for many other reasons ostensibly; 1) ability to kill Jedi 2) human racism 3) potentially easier to alter 4) inhibitor chip worked with human DNA these are backed by what we see on screen but not necessarily true either, as I’m sure someone will point out. I just take them as the inexplicit reasoning why, but that’s my humble opinion.
  6. Yeah, I know. I can see how some of the content isn't for every party. I think I was so enamored with this book because it tried to delve into so many different areas that it covered a huge swath with its few pages. It gives me hope that a future Clone Wars era book will give me enough detail to allow me to live out my dream of actually having a campaign set in that time period.
  7. I didn't take it as criticism, I'm generally a pretty accepting guy when it comes to things on these forums and reserve my rage for year long book delays.... anyways.... (Now before I begin I should say that I like playing within the established universe but without interacting directly with lore figures in any canon breaking way.) I think my players would be more upset with me if I were to just say "Vader shows up, you all die." "Vader shows up, you gang up on him and end time as we know it." Neither approach is a good one. Should players fear big bad? Sure. But just as Luke grows on his journey to eventually face Vader, why can't PC's? (****, he is defeated in his TIE Advanced by Han...) It doesn't have to be the lore figure of Vader.. maybe you reskin Vader's stat block to be another villain to accomplish the same journey. Think about it this way. Would you not use Thrawn in a campaign as an Evolving menace? Would you have the Inquisitors hunt your party? Could you use these stats outside of mortal combat? Sure. Maybe you are trying to lie to X big bad? Shouldn't you have some measure for what that would entail? What if you are a squadron commander reporting to Thrawn and you are secretly working for the Rebel Alliance and trying to hide your true loyalties. The beauty of having the stats is that its a starting point for possibilities. Looking at it as if a GM is gonna have a grand melee involving these characters is a very limited view of what is possible, and probably the worst possible application of that.
  8. To each their own but I would like to point out a few things that you might want to consider. - This isn’t a region book, it’s an era book, and therefore it has specific content for the time period. - Are there things that might have been better additions, like the Lasat? Sure, but they made a conscious choice to stay true to the fact that there are almost as many confirmed Lasat as Yoda’s people in the galaxy. Imagine if players started starting out Lasat to play with, it essentially guts that element of the lore. (As far as I know but I haven’t finished Rebels) - the characters that have been statted out are specifically not their final form. Remember, this is at the Dawn of the Rebellion... so Thrawn and Vader and such should evolve in strength as your players do. This gives them room to grow and to feature throughout the campaign. Just my my two cents.
  9. Seriously though, imagine you slice into a droid and change its base sexuality while adding a subroutine where it realizes its voice no longer matches its registry for its “sexuality”... you’d end up with a spectrum from at least quirky behaviour (some success) to a complete breakdown (triumph)... it’d be a hella inventive way to deal with a droid threat, and quite funny to boot. Next time we run into a droid enemy I’m gonna whisper the GM do my roll and then wait to see how the droid responds.... a good GM could make this a rather memorable experience.
  10. If you think in terms of any programming language you need to set the code to have the droid respond appropriately. In this case using personal pronouns with a masculine or feminine coding. In all cases of X, where X is a reference to the Protocol Droid referred to as C3PO, then use Y, where why is the masculine identifier appropriate to the particular sentence structure. This could arguably be changed by going to the source code and changing all cases of Y to read as the feminine identifier. I see the voice as chosen for the model to represent something that makes the recipient feel comfortable with the particular designation. I.E. a droid is set with masculine programming and uses a voice that projects that. Is it possible to have a feminine voice used on a masculine programmed droid? Sure. Just load that voice matrix, it wouldn’t affect its understanding of its sexuality unless it was also programmed to think in those terms.... which would lead to some interesting results. Such an obvious logic flaw would be avoided lest it undermine its intended purpose by resulting in what we would term bugs or crashes. I do like this question though, it raises some really intriguing roleplay options for future storylines.
  11. The minimum 200 days is a reference to how the rules can allow you to reduce the time frame via excellent rolls. It’s not a reflection on what the actual time should be. If I had said X days, someone would have come along and said that they can reduce that time by rolling Y Advantage. The main point was to point out that creating a ship on the scale of Sil 6+ has a daunting amount of money and resources required for your average group, therefore if someone actually manages to get 5,000 employees, design templates, a facility to build it, rare weapons and armaments and sets down tens of millions of credits... why on earth after that Herculean effort can you not build something with a comparable amount of weapon systems etc.? Thats not to say your ship will be inferior in all ways. The rules also allow for you to stack Armor to ridiculous proportions. Also as I pointed out before, to increase Encumbrance on a space station by 16 when it’s base is 100,000 is just not properly scaled. So I know you said you aren’t defending the rules and I get that, but the core of the discussion that was taking place was more about the inadequacy of scaling than about X or Y particular element, like timeframe. Those are symptoms, the rules are the cause of the problem.
  12. The rules call for you to have 5,000 workers working for 200 days minimum. This is not a mom and pop operation. You will be spending tens of millions of credits, you should have a ship with comparable firepower.
  13. Oops, I missed that, looks like I’ll have to re-evaluate my builds. Thanks for the heads up.
  14. The assembly should only be for a complete rebuild imho. I don’t know the ruling per RAW as it is not explicit.
  15. That 17 hard Points then have to be spent on weapons in addition to hull, engines, hyperdrive etc. By the end of that you end up with a Destroyer that is subpar by comparisons against existing base models. Also, you can spend 450 credits to create a hull for the Death Star....
  16. It lists them in descending order; frame, Engine, Hull. It then places them in that order in the book. Every element is designed around building one unto another, even in its description of how the frame is the skeleton and the engines are added to it. They don’t need an errata for something handled by common sense.
  17. This seems like an appropriate answer. And if a GM doesn’t like that you have x as cover, oops, that crate was shot to pieces by the autocannons. Cover needs to offer something to the game or else it loses any credibility. I am happy they do not allow multiple sources of Defense to stack, but cover seems to be a seperate entity from those discussions.
  18. It’s labelled Steps 1-3. I think it’s prettg straightforward that the order is step one, then step two, then step three. Anything else is just playing semantics that they didn’t include a description of how numbers are read in descending order.
  19. I don’t understand why weapons aren’t in the write ups under each ship frame? Like Sil 3 ships have 2 weapon systems that come standard. There are already rules for adding weapons to ships, but there should be a base so you aren’t relying on HP’s which might be way out of whack with reality. I built an X Wing and could only get the exact build after rolling a Triumph to include the integrated System for the missing Hard Point. Something like a droid socket being 2 HP’s is not balanced with this system and that’s just one example. Take a look at the space station and add the Encumbrance Advantage... it’s 100,000 Encumbrance adds... wait for it, 8. At best if you treat it as a freighter(?) then you get 16...... scaling in this system sucks, weapons missing sucks... the only thing that marginally works for this system is swapping out existing systems, and even then it often causes more problems then not... wait my X Wing now carries a number of passengers? This book was probably delayed due to these rules, I wish they would have sought some input from people who would use these rules. Whoever playtested these didn’t do a very good job. (No offense if that was you, but you let us down.)
  20. I like the basics of this, although I would look at things like the maneuvering fins etc, to see what the numbers are at the end of the day. All in all I think this is a sober approach that might work better. For the bonuses; Crafting results can add a bonus of +1 HP per 4 Adv or 1 Triumph. You can add things like maneuvering fins, but probably only once and restricted to Sil 4 +. Add a weapons loadout equal to 1 HP. The sensors you suggested would cap at Long and you would need to invest Advantage to increase them the final range band. (So even a 0 HP could get close with 3 adv). Triumph can earn a 1 HP which must be spent and added at no cost. Other options reduce time to construct to a maximum of 50% reduction, and credit cost to a maximum of 50% reduction, both not able to stack with other sources of reductions. When im home from Easter dinner I’ll take a look at filling the details in and apply these to the current structure with your numbers as the base. I think that’s a more realistic approach that keeps it close to the existing models but allows for slight upgrades that make the investment worth the effort (without getting as extreme as weapon and Armor crafting).
  21. I highly doubt those RAW are meant to include restrictions against piloting talents, I read that as the top speed for the vessel, the pilots’ skills are then placed on top of that, which is why the cap seems restrictive. It is built with the understanding that whatever speed is given pilots and their mechanics can potentially add +3 speed or handling above that, which is pretty amazing. Imagine a shipwright/rigger in an ARC Fighter as co-pilot to a Hotshot. With the benefits of Signature Vessel, push the specs, etc and full throttle etc, that Fighter would push in the ballpark of 9 speed, +6 handling...
  22. The Renegade’s Blood has after market additions which wouldn’t be covered by this. As for other ships exceeding the limitations, FFG has a few stock models that defy the restrictions we have, but that’s their perogative. Likely they would explain it away by saying that the company has used hard Points prior to its sale that were leftover from the construction phase. Nothing prevents you from doing the same but you can’t construct beyond the limits set out. That’s my understanding anyways.
  23. It doesn’t say that the speed restrictions are specific only to crafting and my mention of assembly was bc I read that you included rolling on that table for its bonuses, which you wouldn’t be able to do with a stock ship.
