    Emperor Palpatine expansion announced.

It's also been awhile for me, but...

    More Factions?

Mandalorians ... Black Suns ... Droid Gotra (battle droids upset with the Empire for decommissioning them) ... Possibly Chiss ...

    Terrain hopes and dreams

I'd like to see some urban battles and terrain ... including Ring of Kafrene (i.e. Kafrene City) Plan to make a lot of my own terrain. That's my favorite part of this hobby.

    28mm Compared to 32mm - Picture examples

Currently, I still plan to play and paint IA, at least for the campaign mode but these models look pretty awesome and will be more satisfying to paint, imo.

    FFG: PLEASE PRE-PAINT

I am not a great painter but find the results more tolerable than unpainted (Walking Dead, IA, Batman Miniature Game, Runewars, Mansions, and even Axis and Allies all have been painted at one point or another). Personally, I wouldn't complain about pre-painted minis, however, I like the increased size of these Legion minis. The enjoyment of painting the larger miniatures of Runewars/BMG is incredibly increased compared to painting IA or Mansions. I'm excited for Legion.

    Runewars minatures community...

FFG is capable of supporting both games and having them both be financially viable. It really depends on how well Runewars players support the game; the games are quite different ... they'll scratch different wargaming itches depending on what types of gamer psoriasis you have.

    Latari unboxing video

FFG does what FFG does. I neither believe it is my consumer's right to have a more durable box nor do I think I deserve a qualified box that meets my subjective cardboard preferences. However, I'd prefer a stronger/tougher/durable box that saves me the trouble of customizing it to meet my (possibly petty) preferences. As of right now I store miniatures in tuck boxes but keep all components in the core boxes; one is a Waiqar quick play box (with tokens, rulers, cards, discs) with another for the Daqan...my initial intention was to do the same for the Aymhelin forces ... nevertheless, no big deal, as I will cut the box up and use the artwork to make a new durable box. Done it before for other games and I will do it again.

    Are heroes a trap?

As I have gotten ever closer to finishing up the painting side of this game the game has been hitting the table a lot more over the past few weekends. At times I have been underwhelmed by hero performance but have also seen them be really effective depending on the scenario ... maneuverability and initiative really help them snag key positions and/or objectives. But like others have mentioned, their combat efficiency, against large units especially, doesn't seem to be all that great (definitely not like Monster/Heroes in Middle Earth SBG but I'm okay with this) ... although some well-timed and accurate strikes can be helpful in taking out tough upgrades, especially if you can flank an already engaged unit.

    Latari Elves Shipping Now!

Ha ... well, if it is any consolation, your painting results are probably much better than mine.

    Latari Elves Shipping Now!

Awesome news! I'm almost done painting Humans and Undead. I will be done this weekend ... Bring on the Elves x 2!

Runewars vs. A Song of Ice and Fire

It's quite possible. Last night's episode teased some mass combat and appeared to increase the enthusiasm of some pledgers in the comment section. If HBO/Benioff/Weiss pull off some epic battles in the next couple of weeks before the end of this Kickstarter, it may drive some people toward the campaign to make a pledge or increase it ... combine that with a traditional CMoN grand finale to the campaign that incites Kickstarter madness and maybe they get some significant spikes before it is all said and done. Additionally, many CMoN fans dropped a lot of money on Green Horde ... GenCon looms ... its the end of the month (there are bills to pay) ... the IP, while popular, is more of an adult property than a family property (haha, for the record, CMoN did address one backer's concern and stated that there is no nudity in the SoIaF TMG) ...

Runewars vs. A Song of Ice and Fire

CMoN is pretty good at managing their campaigns ... and the changes made seem to have given the project a bump and they have brought in an additional 20k. The day should cap off their best pledge day (monetarily) since Day 3 of the campaign. Their struggle right now is figuring out how to entice new backers. That said, I think the game will be simple, fast, and fun to play (I'm a little iffy on the tactics deck stuff but it seems similar to Imperial Assault and I don't mind it too much in that game). I also have no plans of jumping ship from Runewars either ... the action based initiative is one of the most exciting mechanics I've used in a tabletop warfare game ... eliminating the randomness of other variable initiative games (like Batman Miniature Game & Bolt Action).

a curious question on runwars success

The marketplace for fantasy miniatures tabletop combat is going to be fascinating to watch with a number of big dog gaming companies in the fight. FFG's Runewars should be 4 factions deep before the competition jumps into this but the others (GW & CMoN) appear to have aggressive plans. I believe CMoN's Song of Ice and Fire Kickstarter is going to be a relative success despite many preaching doom and after retail release will quickly reach 4 factions. I will be interested to see where Runewars is at next Spring when SoIaF hits the market. Around that same time GW will have completed the full unveiling of the rebranding process for their Middle Earth SBG (not mass combat, but still a significant contender within said marketplace I believe) and GW seems to be making a lot of good PR and branding moves (I know, shocking!) over the past 8-12 months. Thankfully these games are fairly different from one another in style, IP, branding, gameplay, etc. Personally, I find this to be quite exciting (so far I have options to field full units of each unit type for both of the RW factions (with Elves pending), pledged for SoIaF, and I already have most of the LotR/Hobbit stuff I want), however, with competition there are winners and losers and I can't help but wonder who may or may not be the winners and losers in this tussle. And this isn't even accounting for other wargames (sci-fi and such) ... some areas saw a loss of RW enthusiasm, or at least have been distracted in some way, as a result of the release of 40k 8th (for instance, one LGS in my area hosted a RW intro event but during the event most event/store reps were talking about 40k). That said, I believe RW hit the marketplace at the right time ... and lean toward agreeing with Budgernaut and TallTonyB ... the 4 factions should rekindle interest for areas that have lost it.
  14. Not really sure that it'd have a big enough audience, but I know my wife would love it, and that is the CW's Supernatural show. I have a generally passing interest in it, but the more I think about it, the more I think it could make for a rather fun mash-up of Descent/Mansions/Imperial Assault--monsters, maps, traveling throughout the country (to the woods, cabins, mansions, hotels, corporate buildings, and even heaven and hell), guns, hunter classes, big baddies, allies, etc. And it'd be easy for me to get my wife to play, which is a win albeit a rather subjective win.
  15. I'd play. But again, echoing what others have said already ... I'd only be okay with it for casual games or perhaps a custom narrative game of some sort. Anything relating to tourney style battles, even a "friendly" tournament among 4+ friends (which, in my experience, unfortunately, seem to have a higher likelihood of descending into unsportsmanlike behavior), and I'd strongly oppose for reasons already mentioned.
  16. I like to supplant my disappointment about the lack of news for Imperial Assault and Armada by thinking about all the terrible things I'm missing out on and after missing out on Escapades in the Streets of Theed I must now look forward to next week's announcement: The Crystal Star mini box featuring Wyrwolves, Waru, Lord Cnorec, and Celestial Serenity. One can only dream.

    Wave 6 finally shipping

I'm glad I got the deals I got before this happened. The new pricing makes it a wash when deciding where to buy as the prices are the nearly the same. I get 20% off at my FLGS, however, they have a hard time keeping stock and they don't do pre-orders due to previous distribution inconsistencies. As a result, I make most of my Armada pre-orders from CSI with a base 15% off plus my additional 5% off bcuz they've made so much money on me (and I will occasionally pick up a few of the old WotC SW Minis at 15% off for additional IA proxies, custom cards, or miniatures for the SWRPG).

    Wave 6 finally shipping

Yeah, especially when you hit the free shipping mark. It's like buying bulk at Costco ... and subsequently, I end up as a Level 9 CSI customer asking myself one of two things when the package arrives (sometimes both), "This is awesome! When and where can I get my next game in?" ... "Oh no, how do I make sure the FLGS manager doesn't find out what I've done?"
  19. I'm pretty confident that the IA app will be announced tomorrow along with the title of the first available campaign: Escapades in the Streets of Theed There will also be a new blister revealed: Jar Jar Binks And a couple command card reveals: Street Performer and Beloved by Children

Why does FFG only care about OT?

While there are some designs I didn't like, I agree with you on your main point. There is a lot to enjoy at a conceptual level with the PT era ... which opens the door for great storytellers to tap into.
  21. As a long time fan since childhood with way too many good and bad comics ... this would both excite me and terrify me. I've almost bought into both of Knight Model's miniature game (BMG is a great game), but their product is too difficult to grab in my area and I'm not willing to pay international shipping when I have too many other games that I fully support. Interestingly, I haven't heard about anybody picking up the license for Marvel RPGs since Margaret Weis & Cam Banks lost the license a few years back. Perhaps FFG picked up the non-collectible miniature gaming license, RPG license, and board games (however, I have no idea where or how Marvel's board game licenses work).
  22. Agreed. Great analogy!
  23. I've purchased two of every expansion ... the exception being Wave 1 (I only purchased 1 of each) cuz I already had multiple cores. I may go with just one of each this time, buuuut ......... I always buy 2.
  24. Hellfire33

    Wave 6 finally shipping

Definitely. I lurked around my FLGS eyeing the core (I didn't want just one) and wave 1 for a number of months before CoolStuff had a 50% off sale on all their Armada stuff and I jumped. That initial buy-in helped me get started with the game and also helped me support my FLGS down the line.
