BordOne got a reaction from LordBlunt in Duty should be restricted before it is released
To be honest I can't read Scorpion players posts about their clan card reveals with a straight face.
I do not think you guys are role-playing, you are just very heavily biased towards your own faction(much more than other faction players from what I saw) and you always try to deflect(and yes, I am generalising, it might not be you personally but just something I have experienced). I still have fond memory of Scorpion players trying to convince me that Kachiko will be worse than Ujiyaki(Ujiyaki who?) and unplayable because she is a conflict deck character. They were also saying that FWTD will only see fringe play in some decks as 1 of max. I was against both points and guess who was right.
I don't agree with op, it is stupid to say that Duty should be instantly restricted(just looking at the meta right now proves him wrong, there isn't much use for this card).
But it is equally stupid or even more so, to say that card is unplayable and you would be happy for the opponent to put it in their deck, as some have suggested. The card didn't come out yet. No one knows how it performs. There are entire expansions and likely new deck types coming. There were people saying FTWD and Kachiko suck. It's better not to make similar mistakes again.

'A card beat me! It's broken! But everything I do is fine.'
Restoration is powerful, but it's far from broken. You just need to be aware of it and play around it. If you got blown up by it in one game, don't do it next time.
As to 'what were they thinking'....Probably 'we should have some kind of counter to people drawing five cards a turn'.

What are you looking for here, Steve? Validation that you've made the 'right' decision, or attempts to convince you otherwise?
I'm a big believer in the power of positivity...why come on to a forum dedicated to a particular hobby just to rail against it? It very much looks like you're reached the conclusion that L5R is not for you, and I absolutely respect that opinion, but why piss on anyone else's chips, dude?

I don't know how being a Lion player has anything to do with wanting games to be cordial. Everyone wants that I would assume. Lion can get curb-stomped just like everyone else. Their clan, and in turn their cards, play a certain way. If every clan was the same level of difficulty or too similar then the game would get very dull. Sure, they are not as complicated as say Scorpion, but that is part of their appeal. They focus on doing really well in one conflict-type and rely on that success to lead them to victory (very thematic). If you wanted a game you could become a master of in a short time, you picked the wrong game from the start. I consider myself a relatively good player, but I know I can become better (and that is after putting in 100+ hours researching, listening to podcasts, etc...) I love that the game is not just pick a clan and auto-win. The pilot is the biggest factor.

New Stronghold will be broken in the game with zero graveyard hate. Hope they will print some answer or the situation might be dire.
edit: I guess spell card pool is kinda limited so it might not be so bad

Completely worthless would be "You can't play this without using the interrupt." As it is, she's just bad value, but still a functional card, outside of her optimal use scenario. And yeah, I think that's about right. You're overpaying in the wrong situations, to make up for getting a free interrupt + 2/2 body in the right situations. High risk, high reward. It's pretty much the standard meta card. "I'm having trouble with my Phoenix match up, so I'm running this card I normally wouldn't run to improve that match." If it were a reasonable body, they'd have to tone down the strength of the effect (like, a 2-fate 2/2 with the interrupt ability, but you have to pay for the character either way). Which isn't necessarily a bad idea, I agree, but as printed, she's got to be pretty bad outside of her niche use because it's a whammy.
Basically, I see it like Miya Mystic. I wouldn't normally run mystic, but if everyone starts running 2+ cost attachments, or if my worst matchup does, I'll consider mystic. It's a terrible body, but if you can proc the effect it be comes worth it. Similarly, if everyone starts splashing Display of Power or some other great event, or if Phoenix becomes a backbreaking matchup, you can start running this.

This card in Crane looks very interesting. Not only does it synergize with their magistrate, but also can be cast for 1 fate with Kakita Yoshi.

Wow Miya Satoshi is very interesting. Can find you a bomb or a magistrate while you need one but requiring you to win the game fast or the 5 honor loss will end it for you instead.
Also this ability when you have Spirit Caller out LOL
Furthermore he has respectable stats and most importantly the Courtier trait(while being neutral).
Now that I think of it he might be potentially broken in the future.
On the other hand he has an anti synergy with himself.

Well the tournament results do not support your comment at least for now, phoenix is nearly nowhere to be seen while crab has no trouble winning major events.
Phoenix needs strong cads it seems.

Possibly. But no more ridiculous than some of the other Magistrate cards that seem to have escaped the harsh scrutiny that the poor Phoenix and Lion ones seem to be under. For example the Dragon one that neutralises all but one of the Crab's defence-orientated/buffing characters, which seems to have slipped under the radar...

I have to respectfully disagree here. Crane and Dragon (possibly others too) can already break two provinces a turn much more easily than Phoenix. Phoenix generally have balanced but low stats that need buffing to have a chance if breaking something. And if you are focusing on honouring your magistrate then you are doing so at the expense of one of your other characters who also crave honouring.
Personally, I think Scorpion will laugh in the face of Haughty Magistrate before dishonouring it, Crane and Dragon will shrug their shoulders before out-blitzing it, and it probably wouldn't even make the cut in a Lion deck (given its competing in the 3-cost slot).  Don't know about Unicorn, so that just leaves Crab. And I think Crab can  get around the issue just fine (especially if their opponent plays a Magistrate loaded up with extra fate on turn one....)

Many of these errors sound like they are just close enough to the truth, but are weirdly off-base at the same time. It makes me feel like the articles are written with playtest versions of the cards and not the final releases. For example, it certainly sounds like Fair Accord might have been a general action at one point, before playtesting. The same could be true of the Hotaru/Toturi ability confusion back in the day.

It does though. It means you completly negated one of their conflicts. If they want to run in again than he is open to Court Games(which I am not sure if it is run in crab).
I completly disagree on the second point. Having a meta and figuring out counters to it is what makes for a healthy competitive scene. Also the fact that you can counter him means that he is not broken. You sound a bit not reasonable to me. First you say this card is broken/unhealthy, than people find some cards to play around it(Rout - not perfect but still) and then you say "I don't want to play this card, Magistrate broken".
And your "I normally wouldn't run this card..." argument is not very thought out when we speak about any reactive cards in the game. What about Cloud the Mind? Ready for Battle? Hiruma Ambusher? All of these you run because opponent has some card you want to counter - maybe not one card maybe multiple. Rout has many uses other than countering Magistrate too, it was playable in core set and it is not unplayably bad now.
All of that being said you probably don't need counters for Magistrate. He is 3 out of 40 cards in a rare matchup. Crab won 2 major events btw. 3 cards in a rare faction won't kill it.
