  1. I've played a really big block of Reanimates and it struggles as the opponent gets a flank really easily due to the lack of supporting units.
  2. Here's my attempt at embedding Maro so that he can raise my big block. I have put in dispatch runner into the big block to keep Ardus hitting twice a round. Ardus should have one or two inspiration tokens from the first couple of game turns. I am planning to use the smaller block that Maro is embedded into to flank protect the big block and to counter charge if required. Trumpets are proving themselves quite useful. Movement is great. Ardus Ix Erebus # of Trays: 1 ( 37 points) - Shield of Margath ( 6 points) - Ancient Technique ( 2 points) = 45 total unit cost Reanimates # of Trays: 4 ( 26 points) - Ankaur Maro ( 22 points) - Trumpets ( 2 points) = 50 total unit cost Reanimates # of Trays: 6 ( 35 points) - Dispatch Runner ( 5 points) - Front Line Carrion Lancer ( 5 points) - Terrifying Heraldry ( 5 points) - Trumpets ( 2 points) - Lingering Dead ( 3 points) = 57 total unit cost Reanimate Archers # of Trays: 2 ( 18 points) - Combat Ingenuity ( 6 points) = 24 total unit cost Reanimate Archers # of Trays: 2 ( 18 points) - Combat Ingenuity ( 6 points) = 24 total unit cost
  3. Nah, this is just a horsey term. Hmmm maybe I can finally get my wife interested in war games...but perhaps not.
  4. Two different Games Workshop flocks. The green is the the darker one and then the white is the snow one. To apply I simply brushed on wood glue, dunked in one flock, then applied more wood glue and dunked in the other flock.
  5. This last bit is the key. I've found it too hard to self heal him. Yes you loose the ranged attack but as a supporting counter charge unit or a flank protector a 2x2 unit of reanimates is quite useful.
  6. This is where I'm going with him next. I've played two games with him stand alone and I'm not sure he's work the 45-56 pts he needs to operate properly. In a small unit of reanimates with Adrus boosting the slots he makes a lot more sense. In a larger unit with simultaneous orders and something like support carrion lancer he could be interesting. I think that if you are going to play solo with him you need a nearby unit with Profane Banner Bearer so the protector means he cant be targeted when he has low wound counts.
  7. Yeah I'm thinking more and more that he's better off as a unit upgrade.
  8. Good idea with the carrion lancer and the simultaneous orders. I was thinking 2x2 to keep prices down.
  9. I found the points squeeze to much. But I have been running one hero as a unit upgrade, Ardus. Then Ankour as a solo (spelling)
  10. I've tried him twice. He's a weird one. The first time I had him sit behind reanimates putting in extra bases but I found his LOS blocked so he could not heal. In my second game I used heartseeker to get around the LOS issue. With his ability to move 6 you could race right past the enemy army and then start harassing units like crossbow men. I think next time I'll use him in a small block of reanimates as the unit upgrade. Then their innate regen ability should keep them going.
  11. A couple of quick updates. First of all, here's a step by step shot of a reanimate from my sprint paint session the other day. It's certainly not a pretty figure but I needed to finish 24 figures really quickly. I'll probably go back over that lot as the painting frenzy will die off a bit now. It's going to be a few weeks before anything else gets bought and I now have a playable army which multiple options at 200 pts. That's what you should aim for, a decent amount of figures for all comer type lists, leave the 16 trays of cavalry to those with a bit more cash. I've also painted Ardus I just need to take some pictures. The second update is my Ankaur Maro. As my main colour has been blue I couldn't paint him in a similar way to the image on the box. I settled on an eerie green, because reasons. I kind of shrugged at this one and threw the following paints at it. I based with the Castellan Green followed by the Biel-Tan Green wash. After it had dried I dry brushed the whole bone surfboard with Knarloc Green. From there I reach waaaaayyyyy back into my paints box and dry brushed the raised energy strands with the striking Scorpion followed by the bilious green. Once the greens were done I went back over all the bone with Rakarth Flesh, did the bindings then washed with a light brown. For the cloth of Ankaur Maro I followed the same blending pattern as I did for my infantry command. I find I struggle with blending but I think it just takes practice, especially big cloth areas like cloaks. Oddly when I photographed him I realised I hadn't set him straight when I settled him in to the large base. Well it kind of looks like he's straining to ride a sick barrel at Maui or something. A friend who also plays RWM suggested the Waiqar might see this bone golem as a siege choice in the future.
  12. Are you using washes on the whole models? I'd look at something for the purple so it doesn't appear so flat. Either a back wash or if you're feeling adventurous maybe a red one to blend the purple into the edges.
  13. Got mine painted tonight. Lots of detail to bury yourself into. But I'm finding the Runewars miniatures pretty forgiving.
  14. It was a busy day. I ended up live blogging this job on FB but here's the run down of what I did today. These models will be put in the rear trays of my big blocks. This is my way to stave off the despair of massed block infantry painting. It was a common approach to the massive 50+ model blocks that we saw in Warhammer when it got to 8e. I glued on the base dirt last night whilst watching some footy, that's Australian Rules to all of you foreigners . This is my approach: 1. Undercoat back with spray paint 2. Base coat with a big brush and some metallic silver 3. Cloth, bone and some very light touch browns 4. Wash 5. Base 15 minutes later here's the base coat done. hardest part of this was getting cramp in my hand holding the models. Now onto the cloth. A slightly smaller brush this time but certainly no detail level nib on this one. Ok cloth done. Speed painting doesn't mean careless painting. With a brush that big I couldn't get to the corners so I went back and touched up with a smaller brush. About 30 minutes in total for this stage....See more Switching brushes again for this section, this one is wide but thin, just broke this one out of the packet as I do want a bit of control for this next stage. All the bone done. I wanted to show you that in my opinion you could probably wash this model and then play. Is it rough, yes but washes forgive all sins. I decided to add one extra colour for two reasons, the shoulder pauldrons of all my other reanimates have this done and the extra definition is useful when looking at your models from the table top. Change of brush again, when you gotta wash fast use the right tools. Bases painted and ready for flock. This basing is a simply three layered approach with dark brown , light brown and sandy baron applied int hat order. Takes about 10 minutes. Second last post of this live blog. Here's the more or less finished product. i went back over the heads quickly with bone just to bring back the relief from the wash. And finally a comparison of the 6 trays which took 4 hours to the 4 trays which took me 8 hours. I'm using my old iPhone 4 to take photos so they're not super crisp. I'm happy with the outcome as these trays will sit behind the better painted ones.
  15. I have a day off so what should I do? I know paint 6 trays of Reanimates and see if I can squeeze in Ankaur Maro. Those of you new to rank and file units, its a bit like high school class photos, pretty ones up the front and the rest down the back. Today I'm going to sprint paint by lowering the standard somewhat. As below I've undercoated black but then I'll base coat metallic silver. This speeds things up considerably. Then some bone, blue cloaks and a dash of brown. Washed then based. An easy project for a single day.
  16. Wouldn't worry about it too much, I'm using my iPhone 4 with a scratched lens. Its aint pretty but it gets the idea across. Think of it as a 'filter'.
  17. Yep I'm the organiser of the event so I have to represent. Don't worry it'll be fun. It'll be good to meet some other players in Brisbane
  18. Finished Infantry Command Then in a squad of Reanimates with a front line Carrion Crawler
  19. Yeah I know I said I'm a lazy painter but we're having our first gathering of more than 2 players in Brisbane this weekend so i want to look pretty. This little group was fun to paint. I makes a nice break when you move away from production line painting. Don't get me wring, I still did the the same colour on each of the 4 models before moving on, but painting 4 models is better than painting 16 right? I tried to layer the blues here to give shading, I'm not top notch at this and didn't really get the blending right. Same bunch of browns but with a little flesh for the necromancer And I layered a bit more with the metals this time. They are heroes after all and deserve a little bling.
  20. I've found good basing takes the eye away from shabby painting . Yeah you're right the skulls could do with some whiter highlights.
  21. I have a grand total of 5 games under my belt know and I gotta say I do love blighting Daqan. I was wondering what Waiqar players are doing to generate blight. Someone more talented than me can do the probability of generating blight per unit per dice rolled but I'll just work in absolutes if that is ok. Here are the things I have tried so far: Two 2x1 Archers without upgrades. Comes in a low 36pts. - Up to 2blight a turn = potentially 18pts per blight Two 2x1 Archers with combat ingenuity. Nearly 30% more expensive at 48pts - Up to 6 blight a turn = potentially 8pts per blight (but low odds of getting that good a roll) A single Carrion Lancer - 1 blight a turn but cheap at 15pts = Can guarantee 15pts per blight Here are a few units I want to give a go: a single 2x1 unit of archers with combat ingenuity and with Ardus roaming the board equip them with Fire Rune - looking to use the red dice to fish for surges - 31pts for a possible 4 blights - potentially 7.75 pts per surge a single 2x2 with combat ingenuity and equipped with Fire Rune - 42 pts but not reliant on Ardus - 42pts ofr a possible 4 blights - potentially 7.75 pts per surge but with precise reroll. I think that there is a diminishing returns when it comes to blight generation. Keeping 3 blight on a key enemy units seems to be a balance but I like to throw 1 or 2 on something else, hence why i like two blight batteries in my army. I think once you get past 255 of your amry focusing on blight you start to struggle to generate enough damage yourself to counteract the blight removal of Daqan. What are peoples thoughts?
  22. What there hasn't been discussion much is its utility in mirror matches. I've only played Waiqar but my friend who plays Daqan does everything he can to dump blight. If you are facing Waiqar I'd expect it would not be such a high price to pay simply so you can roll damage dice. I also suspect that the unseen faction will have a heavy bane producing mechanism.
  23. Yoda: "There is another" Yoda didn't mean another Luke he meant another last hope (read as Ability/Skill). Gramma lesson here ends does.
  24. And just for good measure here's the current state of play with my Waiqar army.
