I think Iaijutsu Strike is fine, they should just supplement it with a Rank 2 Iaijutsu Style called "Falling Blossom Style" or something like that. Since Iaijutsu Strike lets you ready your weapon for free (in a one-handed grip), Falling Blossom Style would say something like the following: "When you make a Martial Arts [Melee] Attack with a Razor-Edged weapon in a one-handed grip, you may spend an opportunity to treat that weapon as if it were in a two-handed grip for the purpose of the attack and to stow it away after the attack. If you choose to spend more than one opportunity in this way, the weapon is treated as having +1 deadliness per opportunity spent beyond the first".
This would give every Samurai the ability to purchase Iaijutsu Strike and thus to be able to do Iaijutsu, but it would also allow there to be Samurai (such as the Kakita Duelist) who are particularly good at Iaijutsu and feel comfortable incorporating it into their overall fighting style.
 
Edit: Actually, since sheathing a weapon is already a 1 Opportunity thing one can do with Martial Arts checks (pg 98), Iaijutsu Strike would be balanced if you just replaced its current (redundant) 2 Opportunity sheathing to a 2 Opportunity critical strike like with the Strike action. This would make Iaijutsu do consistently more damage than Strike, but at the cost of using 1 Opportunity to sheath your weapon again each round.

I found that chart a little confusing until we worked out a specific detail that made it clear in my head.  There is an action window between 3.1 and 3.2 where 3.2 is when Conflicts are declared *including* the first conflict of each round.  After each conflict, go to 3.1 -> Action Window -> 3.2 Declare next conflict

A lowering of honor forfeits or awards doesn't imply a lack of consequence to me.  A dragon who doubts a superior might still have to be punished, but the Clan is more concerned if he did it with Sincerity.  Their philosophical outlook helps them see that the world isn't always simple as following orders to the letter.  The Crane can still keep their head high if they order a needed military retreat, though they might be demoted or transferred.  They "do what they must" and so are pragmatic enough to try and stay alive a little more than other clans so they can KEEP doing what they must.

I share a bit the same feeling. It's not full disappointment but more unfulfilled expectations. And indeed 4 bucks for the app is exagerated. Should have made a very basic free one for the beta.

You probably skipped some early bits. They explained at the beginning of the beta book that it wasn't the full final product and that some schools were left out of this particular document.

Actually, I disagree.  The Agasha and Mirumoto always worked much better together than the Isawa and Shiba.  The Phoenix's strength is that, when they do bring Shugenja to war, the bring an overwhelming force of them.  Where the Dragon would send a unit of Mirumoto with a handful of Agasha enhancing them, the Phoenix would send a smaller unit of Shiba and a smaller unit of Isawa (perhaps the Firestorm Legion), that worked towards the same goal, but not in an integrated manner.

The dragon strenght's in warfare is thier synergy between bushi and shugenja.
They have skill full mirumoto bushi boosted by magic.

She wants to hide her identity, by using a Naginata.
If she would have use a "perfect strike with no thought" with the ancestral crane sword every crane in the caravan would have notice a master in the Kakita technique cutting the  "ex Mirumoto" Ronin . I would not have been sneaky at all.

Plot twist: Satsume was killed by a child from a side affair, and whose life was hell due to that. Killing Satsume was an act of revenge, for, I don't know, making killers mother suicide.
I want to see Hotaru find out the truth and be torn apart between the human feeling of sympathizing with the killer and high fiving them, and having to actually do her duty of revenge.
If you want to be cheeky, give the kid name "Dairu" :P.

She also obviously has issues with self worth, like Hoturi did, which probably means she could think of worse things to happen to the Crane than for her to die and Kuwannan to take over, so no big loss if she gets killed fighting a bandit.
