If you're looking for similar personality traits, just remember that Yokatsu didn't have any personality (poor early Unicorn players) and it would be a tragedy to copy that to Altansarnai.

You know, after seeing a lot of debate lately about Policy Debate, I think that the Crane Clan Pack should be focused on dueling, but mostly to give all clans some ways to counter them. Things like:
-Duelist Trainer (character with the ability:)
Interrupt: When an honor bid is revealed during a duel - raise or lower your bid by 1.
    -Kakita Yojimbo (conflict character with:)
Interrupt: When one of your characters is challenged to a duel - Put this character into play. He becomes the challenged character instead.
-Dishonor on your cow (name in progress, neutral event)
Interrupt: When one of your characters is challenged to a duel - Dishonor that character. The duel does not initiate. Cancel the effects of the duel.
-Niten daisho (attachment with +2 MIL)
Reaction: After a duel initiates, but before setting up the honor bid - play this attachment on a character participating in the duel. (Not sure on this one, maybe after setting up the bid but before revealing will be better)
Maybe the wording is not entirely right, but my point is making some cards that make your opponent think twice before challenging you a duel, and making the bidding mechanic actually a risky bid, and not as predictable as it is now. I think that dueling desperately needs a rework, but instead of make it changing the rules, just through cards that interact with the Duel Timing sequence. And the Crane pack can be perfect for that.

The Lion Clan uses scouts extensively in warfare. They usually refrain from using sabotage (as compared to harriers for example), but they use stealth and sometimes misdirection to lure units into disadvantageous positions.

Unicorns also use scouts, but a special mention to the Baraunghar in the old storyline. A shugenja-heavy cavalry unit specializing in water magic (aka movement) and able to teleport.

I did it. Once. Lost a Fate-loaded Kisada the same turn he hit the board. Has not happened again, ever. I also sent a 2-fated Tsukune to defend alone against Shoju without having any way to boost her POL, and disregarding the fact that Fiery Madness exists, and works along with Shoju very well. Now I never participate with a big character against Shoju without a fan and/or attachment removal.
Thing is: you learn from your mistakes, and “OP cards” suddenly become just “powerful cards”. And every clan has a couple of those.
(Funnily enough, I’ve never lost more than one card to a Restoration of Balance)

I still don't understand, you claim he kept bidding 5 every turn. If you bid 1 every turn, he will die due to dishonor really quickly. It also allows you to play your 3 assassinates etc.

I've said this before, and I'll say this again. Bidding 5 every turn is not the optimal strategy IMHO. Especially if you are sitting on 12 cards in hand. I'll repeat, that's 33% of your conflict deck. If you are hanging around with 33% of your conflict deck in hand, it's a mistake. It makes Policy Debate even more powerful, and it brings you no advantage at all if your conflict deck is expensive (Which it must be if you are not playing cards to win those conflicts.)

I have a single deck that bids 5 each turn (if possible), it's a Crane deck that basically only has 0 cost events and 0 costs attachments (2*A fate worse than death, 2*Scorpion attachment steal and 2* waning hostilities are the only cards that don't cost 0). In that deck it makes sense to bid 5 every turn because I can basically empty my hand each turn, Yoshi makes that even easier.

Many people used to bid high in my meta, until I got into the game and started bidding one, stealing all their honor and playing the same amount of conflict cards as them because my conflict deck is appropriately costed. It doesn't take many turns of bidding 1 to force someone to join you drawing only 1 card a turn. On top of it, with Library, Phoenix has one of the best tool in the game to get card advantage that way.

Just think about it a bit, if your deck is made up of 75% cards with a cost of 1 or above, drawing 4 cards will only yield you 1 card you can play without having planned for it. What's the point of drawing the 3 other cards?

I don't know what kind of players you guys are that you consistently have 12 cards in hands (or let me rephrase that: 33% of your conflict deck in hand)...

Your conflict deck is probably way too expensive if that is the case. If I already have 7 cards in hand, I'm probably betting 1! (If I have 7 in hand at the beginning of the turn, I didn't enough fate to play many of them last turn. So I'm unlikely to have enough fate to play 5 more).

Finally, learning ALL the nasty cards is part of playing a CCG or LCG. If you don't want to do it, fine! But don't blame the game... Restoration of balance is a 0 card discard often enough, a 1 or 2 card discard sometimes and once in a blue moon a 3+ card discard. My first turn against Dragon often involves betting low, buying a 3 coster with 2 fate, a 1 coster, attaching a 0 or 1 cost attachement before attacking. Bingo, I'll lose 0 cards from your restoration of balance! Such an amazing card! On top of it, from now on I can farm it all I want.

So it's terrible when I defend politically with Altansarnai, then drag her in on a military offensive and still be able to use her kill ability when I break a province?  Its terrible that I can drag in a bowed defender and then use their base stats to Rout or Policy Debate my opponent?
I could spend all day going over examples of good ways to use the ability, but, that's not really the point, which you seem to be missing.
If you can't see the potential for the Unicorn stronghold to get better as the card pool gets deeper (something no other core stronghold can boast)  then we really aren't discussing anything.
Maybe we should start with you explaining to me how the Unicorn stronghold doesn't have potential for growth as the game grows or explain how the other strongholds will improve at the same or better rate?

Well, it is negativity, but I feel Unicorn will get their Clan Pack last or second-to-last.

Now, what would be nice is to know how often these clan packs will come out, and what their legality on the long run will be... Maybe we'll get an official announcement soon?

Yeah, think that they're both eminently cuttable but fans are more valuable. And as more and more stuff comes out that does stuff, I think people are going to move into deckspace where you don't really bother with attachments at all, or are at the very least completely unexcite by playing a card taking an action to gjve +2

Also a nice tempo play if you don't have the first player token and both of the players have 2 broken provinces.  Go all in on an attack knowing you can only lose one province and that you'll be starting the next turn to try with the first opportunity to try to take your opponents stronghold

If a section of the wall, that is being guarded by non crab led units, falls then crab still get the blame for failing their duty.  If the other clans really cared about keeping Rokugan untainted they would send their forces to the crab and let them do what they must.
You don't show up to a Wu Tang concert and ask them to play Garth Brooks greatest hits.
If you're going to help them simply fill the order.  When you start demanding control over stuff you know nothing about, you put all of Rokugan in jeopardy.....or you're likely a spy for the Shadowlands........at least that's how my inner crab feels about it
