Difference between a meta with good big ships in, and a meta dominated by big ships. A majority of the X-Wing community has probably never seen either build in person, which cleaves between institutional and personal knowledge. (AKA, what percent of a blogs readership shares the authors understanding of a topic?)

svelok reacted to CaptainJaguarShark in Padme's *what* initiative?!
As others have mentioned, Initiative is not merely a depiction of pilot skill in a straightforward way. That's part of the reason they changed the name from Pilot Skill in the first place. Perhaps the N1 is also easier to fly than the Delta-7. That would help explain how Ani picked it up so quickly as well as why Padme might be better in this. Maybe if she was on another ship she'd have lower I, and Ahsoka might have a higher I. Then again, this could just be mechanical balance- which is also fine.

    Two 👏 points 👏
Let the people have locks! End the tyranny of high initiative!
I actually think this or something like it is just how locks should work by default. The lock action is so bonkers, hilariously tilted in favor of high initiative (remember good 'ole Squad of Legend?) that just about any i5 can equip single modded proton torps and it's probably fine, but any pilot i4 or below has to thing long and hard about munitions that aren't focus-triggered and i1/2 generics just say no by default. It's both thematically and mechanically busted, one of those "core set problems" that FFG re-examined for 2.0.
But, they didn't change it, so it's not a mechanic that's going anywhere (short of third edition 👀) - and I really like Passive Sensors as a sort of next best thing. (Note that Synched Console and Targeting Sync exist too, although both are quite bad with current prices.)
PS levels the lock playing field to let low init ships and generics in on the munition action. And as a sensor slot (it could've easily been mod!), it specifically does mostly so for the ships that thematically ought to be ordnance carriers - bombers, punishers, hyenas, etc.

This answer probably changes depending on who you ask. Some people like spending XX games architecting a list to solve a matchup, some people like not having a stable meta for long enough that the matchup needs solving. Neither group of people is more correct than the other, it's just a preference.
That being said - point change/meta chaos is trending down, not up. We've got all the factions we're gonna get - two of our three waves so far added new ones! - at least until those rumored KoToR movies happen. 👀
We're therefore going from 2 new factions, 6-8 new ships a wave; to 0 new factions, 2-3 new ships a wave. And each new ship matters relatively less for the meta the more ships there are in the faction/format, unless it comes out the gate ludicrously OP.
And while point changes can always introduce new imbalances via changes made just for meta effects - like Leia - those are a small percent of total changes, so balance should trend up over time. All the bad stuff that got cheaper but is still bad will get cheaper again, good stuff that got nerfed but is still good might get nerfed again. Eventually it'll plateau with some static variation, but we're still probably in a higher level of imbalance than what will be the editions average over its lifecycle.

flattened power curve means there's less of a "top meta squad" and more of "top meta archetype" increased faction count splinters the meta further related, there is (either real or perceived) more regional variation in the meta overall, fewer of the same list and more similar-ish lists define the meta counters have to be more strategy based than card-based, relative to 1.0 the edition change gave some veterans reasons to leave and some new players reasons to start, so on average the community has  gotten a bit "greener" 2.0 has a deficit of institutional knowledge, being only 8 months old and having experienced only a handful of metas in that time (eg: we've never had a 2.0 "big ship" meta)
