A *huge* thank you to my FLGS who just notified me that due to being a good long term customer (and having bought most of my Legion, X-Wing, and Armada collection from them over the years...) that they are giving me one of these figures.  Totally unexpected and SUPER appreciated.  Just ordered some more Legion stuff from them to say thanks.   I really hope those of you that are still searching will find one.

I'd love an AT-AT too, even a slightly scaled down one (like what they did for the T-47) but seeing the picture above, you quickly realise how impractical it would be and probably not that fun either (as a playable unit that is).  I think AT-ATs, at 1/144 scale (like Bandai's kit), could work well if this game had been done in 15mm.

if my memory serves me correctly it came in a lone baggie, about 3cm x 3cm, which was then loose in the box.

It's probably been posted here before, but this is a truly epic game table for the Battle of Hoth. Created by Beasts of War for the Salute 2015 convention in the UK. The game was designed for 10 players: 6 commanders on the Rebel side, 4 for the Empire. The forces included 4 AT-ATs, 8 AT-STs and 6 snow speeders. I think everything except the AT-ATs are WotC Star Wars Miniatures. I couldn't find the size of the table, but it looks like 4x12.

I think a lot of us would be stoked if AMG launched a 15mm scale star wars game. Maybe start with clone wars era this time (since its better suited to huge armies and vehicles).

This is a good point.  Depending on the size and complexity of the mold, it probably costs more than FFG could make back with a limited release.  It doesn’t make sense to me to have these limited releases. 
Maybe when Atomic Mass Games takes ownership of SW Legion and starts producing new products (if that’s the intention), then they might re-release these “limited edition” figures.

FFG didn't do them for no reason, FFG did it because they viewed the marketing benefit of the convention exclusives was seen as worth it when it comes to attracting new players. (They could still sell the previous LE sculpts as long as they have the molds too)

There isn't any marketing value to what they did with the Luke LE (or at least very little), FFG distributed them to stores that were then going to distribute them to already entrenched players. Nothing prevented FFG from just selling the copies they made and then producing more copies if there was a demand for them.

For me I was hoping to get the ESB Luke because I love the sculpt and it would go great with my Hoth themed troops.  I also have a fond attachment to watching Empire Strikes Back with my dad when it came out in the theatres - especially the Hoth scenes with the snowspeeders and AT-ATs.  I couldn't care less about Ahsoka or Anakin.

My local shop got these in. They are selling them for $150 dollars. Quite a rip off. 

Most people have a theme or aesthetic that they really enjoy in Star Wars. For me it was the RotS Obi. I had to have it. Paid $125 for it. I have it ready to be resin cast as soon as I'm off my lazy bum to do it.

I’m the reverse.  The convention LE minis I can understand as people pay good money to attend and since I’ll probably never go to one, I’m OK missing out.  But this release is frustrating because of the artificial limit on quantities; whether your FLGS will let you even buy one; and if you are able to beat the scalpers at checkout.

If you're really going for the shiny gold metallic look you could try Vallejo's Liquid Gold line of paints; the two colours on the right look like a good match:
 

That looks awesome and much more imposing.  One small suggestion: I think the engine glow might look even better with a bit of Troll Slayer Orange added to the mix:

There are no LEDs built in. Everything is painted with the good old brush. So yes, painted as OSL.
