Does it look like the bullseye firing arc is as wide as a range ruler or is it more like a movement template? Or is it not really the same as either?

The printer where the ships are manufactured has an upgrade card with the "Action:" header which they activate for detailed paint jobs, and advanced slam is now action bar only now so...

Torani Kulda (Kimogila Pilot) Ability Question
matt.sucharski replied to matt.sucharski's topic in X-Wing
What if a pilot had an ability that, when triggered, caused an enemy to remove all focus and evade tokens. If that enemy ship had no tokens, nothing would happen, right? Torani Kulda's ability is like that, only he gives his enemy a choice of which of two fists to get punched with. Choose the right fist and suffer 1 damage, choose the left fist and discard all focus and evade tokens. The fact that I have no focus or evade tokens does not seem to prevent me from choosing the left fist. If anyone thinks I'm wrong, I'd like to discuss it and see if we can figure it out. -
A question came up in a bigger thread about the new preview article, and I thought the question deserved some consideration outside that context. Torani Kulda's pilot ability reads: The question is: what happens when one of the enemy ships inside the firing arc does not have a focus or an evade token? The possible answers seem to be: A) That ship cannot choose to remove tokens, so it must choose to suffer 1 damage. or B) That ship may choose to remove all of it's focus and evade tokens (which happens to be zero) and avoid suffering 1 damage. I tend to think that a strict reading of the card supports B. The card does not say "If the enemy ship has any focus or evade tokens, it must choose..." it says simply that the ship "must choose" and gives two options. One option removes any focus or evade tokens, and the other option causes the ship to suffer one damage. When you're in Torani's bullseye firing arc after he attacks, you've got to open one of those two doors, but you get to choose which one. In your opinion, am I interpreting this correctly? Any important things I've left out or misunderstood? (asking for a friend.... a friend who is a wookiee with Expertise and Reinforce and never has focus or evade tokens)

If I participate in Vassal and also on the kitchen table, would both of my campaigns be included in the Global Campaign?

Reading through the missions now before designing my roster(s). I am really excited to participate on Vassal with this stuff and will additionally be using stolen and modified versions of these missions to get some friends into X-Wing for the first time

Three Scum Ships That Have Somehow Been Missed
matt.sucharski replied to JediPartisan's topic in X-Wing
The slaver ship looks like a Jawa Sandcrawler with oversized VTOL jet engines. I agree with others who have said it looks too similar to the YV-666. Mining Guild TIE? meh. HH-87 passes the Star-Warsy look gut-check for me, so I'm ok with it. -
3 Tactician Auzitucks? It'll never work! (also Daredevil Wulf)
matt.sucharski replied to Wazat's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
@Dreadai Agreed, that Breach Specialist feels so good! I whenever I try upgrading one liberator to Wullff or Lowhhrick, I end up really missing the options given by having all 3 at the same PS. Getting to choose my activation order opens my dials a tiny bit more and choosing my firing order allows me to be more effective in the combat phase. -

Yes, that's another option the Defender has in selecting maneuvers. It might be enough to tip it, but I suppose this is all hypothetical. I was just considering what I might do if I faced this match at Mandalore. -

The Australian National Championships had several highly placed finishes by lists composed of 4 x Kashyyyk Defender + Wookiee Commandos. I wondered how that would perform vs. the 3 x Wookiee Liberators + Expertise + Breach Specialist + Tactician list that I tend to favor. Expected combat results including the offensive and defensive modifications for both lists starts out pretty close. The Defenders would do an expected TOTAL of 1.625 damage compared to the Liberators doing a TOTAL of 2.625. This is a moderate edge to the 3xLiberator list. It's close to even. A roughly even trade of damage would seem to favor the 4xDefenders list, unless you assume perfect focus-fire by both sides (always targeting the most damaged enemy ship). In that case, the Defenders will lose a ship to a PS Kill a before the Liberators would, and would therefore suffer a massive drop in firepower. Given that the expected damage is so low compared to the hit points of both lists, I think this match up would really come down to two factors, assuming average dice: 1) piloting, and 2) the effectiveness of Tactician. The Defenders have the possibility of blocking the Liberators to prevent Reinforce, while the Liberators have the possibility of Tactician-stressing the Defenders to prevent Reinforce. Whichever squad accomplishes this best will have the advantage. I think avoiding blocks and causing stress should in general be easier to accomplish than effective blocking, so I think in the end, although it could go either way: the 3xLiberator list is stronger - at least in the head-to-head match up. Thoughts? -
Need a bid? I think so. PS9? Yes, the BB-8 BR & or boost is much stronger the later you move. Intensity? Yes. All of these are related I think. Without R2-D2, Poe relies on arc dodging, evade tokens, and when possible getting a 3rd defense die from range or obstruction. I have found I much prefer the BB-8 Poe to the R2-D2 Poe because it's more fun to fly, and has much more offensive firepower. The offense comes from 1) getting a focus from BB-8/Intensity and using your action for Target Lock (when you are not getting shot or are only taking 1 shot with 3 defense dice and Autothrusters), and 2) Primed Thrusters / Intensity Poe can K-Turn or T-Roll then boost for focus, therefore getting much more time on target than R2-D2 Poe. Not to mention his near immunity to stress and ion (because even when he's got both he will still get boost and focus). With Rey as partner, try to make your enemy choose between shooting a tokened up Poe or a Rey with arc.

I'd rather have 1 Obi-Wan than 4 Sabines and 4 Zebs. Nothing against Rebels or or kids shows or new stuff: but Obi-Wan! Luke!
-
I think I have said it elsewhere, but I hope we get an Old Luke card from TLJ.

Just some obscure ones you probably never heard of: Obi-Wan Kenobi Yoda

Includes acrylic mustache token that must be worn until the player activates Biggs' ability. Then the mustache is removed from the player's face and put on the table.

I found if I was ever down to 1 auzituck, it was almost surely game over vs most enemies. I tried Lightning Reflexes as a potential solution to that problem. Only did it a few times. I keep trying weird stuff... just did this version: Kashyyyk Defender — Auzituck Gunship 24 Tactician 2 Operations Specialist 3 Ship Total: 29 Wullffwarro — Auzituck Gunship 30 Predator 3 Gunner 5 Hotshot Co-pilot 4 Ship Total: 42 Kashyyyk Defender — Auzituck Gunship 24 Tactician 2 Operations Specialist 3 Ship Total: 29 It did ok, but each time I play something other than Expertise, Breach, Tactician x3 I just end up thinking that it's not quite as good. -
Wait... what?! We've been hosed.

Earlier this week I flew Ten/ Boba with RAC / Kylo in a similar tournament. Ten maybe gets to do his trick once then dies fast. Really fast. Try Omega Ace with Sabine's Masterpiece, K4, Attanni Mindlink.
-
It'd be weird for a playtest to have acrylic stuff and not cardboard, right? I honestly don't know. As for the implicit rules change for resolving an overlap: it seems unusual I guess, but I suppose it'd be easy enough to do on the table. I don't know if I like the change or not, but I definitely don't like seeing it here if it is a bona fide leak.

You've never heard the tragicomedy of Darth Duncan the Tall? I thought not...

I'm sure I don't know all the factors that go into the decisions made by the small number of people at FFG Organized Play regarding which locations are given an Regional Championship, but I'd be massively shocked if their guiding principal was to exclude large numbers of customers who want to participate.

I have started experimenting with the following setup: Lightning Reflexes + Gunner + Tactician on two wookiees Trick Shot + Operations Specialist + C-3PO on the third. I miss the total independence of Breach, Tactician, Expertise on all three. I miss the magic of Breach Specialist. I don't like relying on Ops spec for offensive mods. I like the possibility of double-stressing with one ship, and I like that lightning reflexes really opens up some possibilities. It may be a matter of taste. More games! -
Thanks for sharing, this looks very interesting! Congratulations on your great finishes in those competitive tournaments. Could you tell us a bit about your strategy and approach when flying this list? What are you thinking about when you make decisions, and what are you trying to do with each of the ships?
