I think it largely boils down to raw efficiency and a couple upgrades that are way off curve.

Spined threshers, Ravos, and berserkers are quite straight forward, and do well in their roles. They don’t have a ton of flexibility, but neither are they paying for it. Flesh rippers are a little more technical and vulnerable to bad matchups, but generally Uthuk can expect to get good use out of their units.

Then there’s the few trouble makers: Warsprinter, Insatiable Hunger, and Scuttling Horror. All three are pretty seriously under-costed, and contribute to not only the Uthuk’s speed, but also flexibility. They take a solid chassis, and boost things up pretty intensely.

    Perfect ??

  2. Small Regional today in SoCal. It was at a store that has no Runewars locals. So 4 of us Drove down to it. We knew it would be a small crowd. But we hope for atleast our monthly average lately of 6 at our Home store. There where 3 people that paid online but did not show up.

    2 Uthuak

    2 Waiqar

Uthuak both won their first game 9-2

Then faced each other. 36 point Mov.

To play devil’s advocate on the “widely assessed Uthuk issue:”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Uthuk haven’t even won a regional yet. They certainly aren’t being played in droves either

I won with Uthuk before the box was released at Gameology and just won a 6 man tournament with nothing but spined threshers on the table.

  4. Quick random list of things spined threshers did in the last few games with scuttle. They where already amazing and then.

    1. Caused to side step a incoming charge
2 Caused me to line up an impossible charge
    3. Turn a front charge into a flank charge
    4.pulled out of shooting arc
    5. Charge 360 degrees out of terrain almost range 4
    6. Caused me to move 360 out of terrain almost range 5.
7 caused me to shift sideways into combat
    8. Caused me to shift sideways out of combat.
    9. The stun
10 slide one sideways reform the forward one is amazing.
    11. Engages to the side on initiative 0 and still dial
    attack and attack
    modification.

    I think I can’t list at least 6 more.

Interesting! Did you play against the Executioner Waiqar player? Curious to hear how that impacts things against Uthuk.

Did the Maros have Violent Forces?

Yes executioner was my final match it’s almost won the whole game for him. The scenario and terrain forced me in close and he tied up the flesh rippers well. It one shot Ravos and some spined threshers. Super close game 20 point win. I was up over a hundred and he came storming back when things started getting disorganized.

yes both Maros had violent forces. Ravos ate him turn 3. But I lost Ravos to stop the shooting, knowing I would lose him.

  6. Gameology

I am normally a Latari player but after a ton of games my league friends were catching on to me a little. So to shock them I show up with Uthuk.

    1st place Uthuk.

    Spined Threshers [28] 2x1

Second and Third was nearly a dead even tie of almost mirror lists.

They were Maro solo. 2x1 Spined Threshers. 2 2x1 Deathknights. One had 3x2 reanimated with executioner the other had 2x2 lancer. Then sprinkle in a few more lancers.

Our group has been heavily Waiqar since Launch so about 5 Waiqar, 3 Daqan, and then I am mostly elves but played Uthuk this time. We have picked up several new people who are skilled gamers that will stir up the mix of races.

  7. Careful Approach with a triangle of terrain blocking up the whole center made for a very hard game. That’s how I beat Uthuk with my other armies often in the current meta.Sacrificing him in a aggressive trade for Ankara Maro was worth it because Shooting wins everything in that scenario. Plus to kill him my opponent needed to face several units the wrong way. All of the good reanimated fighting units would not fit. When your army doesn’t fit and you need all your units in combat quick you have to make even trades early on sometimes to get into position. Flesh rippers running down the flank was the game winner.
