I bought a couple of playmats, but i prefer to print them off. It's a bit more economical, and you can get any one that you want. There's details in the linked thread on that

    Make your own assessment: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/9/6/scry-the-future/
    Reprints are very unlikely.

I agree that everyone loves wookies.
Just get what you want to play with. But find it before it's gone, because they said no more re-prints.
If you want to check the contents for any of the packs that you don't have, an easy spot to do that is boardwars.

In terms of what's actually "essential", it sounds like you have plenty to play the game. Other than the Core Set, going from memory, I'd say "essentials" are Return to Hoth (for Negation Command card), Jabba's Realm (for various Hunter groups and cards), and Tyrants of Lothal (for Spectre Cell Deployment card and the Spectres themselves). But it sounds like you have all of those.
You may also wish to make sure you have all the current tournament maps (I don't suppose they'll ever change again as FFG won't be running more OP). I can't remember which packs they appear in, and you have a few maps anyway. But if you're not actually intending to play in a tournament, one skirmish map is as good as another.
So much for "essential". As for "best value" from the list you've given, I'd say:
Stormtroopers (for Set to Stun Command card) Bantha Rider (always fun) Hired Guns (cheap, fast figure for Scum) Wookiee Warriors (because everyone loves Wookiees) ...and anything else you can afford / get hold of. Every single Ally or Villain pack has content for both campaign and skirmish (if not always of comparable utility) so it's difficult to go wrong.

Yup, FFG missed a great opportunity with that.
Guess I'll get into Keyforge now?  hahahah  kidding...

Ending it is better than letting it dwindle down to nothing. IA skirmish is a great game that could have been even better if FFG had ever truly given it the support that it deserved.

Thanks to @El_Lalotreto's hard work we have great version of The Gray Cap Cantina (Raid 2).

I've added a new Raid map table to the project homepage where you can find the full 300-DPI version. If anyone wants to work on making The Malastarian Outpost (Raid 1) let me know, I'm happy to share access to the scans of all the tiles cleaned up. Thanks to everyone for their continued interest and support.

Stuff like... someone starting new to the game and coming up against a bunch of experienced players at a regional, only to later find out that those players were super friendly and welcoming to the point where the new player got really involved in the skirmish game?

I'm not trying to be smart or sarcastic here, but I'm genuinely not sure what the point is that you were trying to make.  Maybe that you have to buy an expensive core box in order to play?

This has more or less been the norm for every FFG competitive game that is collectable. LCGs or miniatures. I find it hard to believe that Legion will be anything else a couple of years foward.
Yes, they were fighting an uphill battle with the early releases etc. That could easily have been fixed by producing a Skirmish starter set, with new versions of those old cards and get rid of the 'must-have-tiles' stuff and let people play tourneys with printet maps (like they do already).
They also did errata Specter Cell, just waaaay too late. FFG has never ever been good at creating healthy metas.

    Wow.  Just. Wow.
I think I have a good idea what tomorrow's Legion article will be about:  A New Way To Play Legion!  Preview the New Rules For Legion: Campaign!  Buy the new card board tiles that can be arranged in various ways and play Legion like a dungeon crawler!
I don't care how fun Legion is, I'm never buying it out of principle.

I love Imperial Assault and was saddened when it was announced that no more physical content was planned. As a skirmish player, the reasonings for that didn’t make sense. What would it take for you to make new IA product? Even some sporadic blister packs could help keep the community alive.

Fightwookies got a reaction from ManateeX in Target/Target Figure/OTL ruling from Todd
I got this clarification from Todd on his ruling for Set for Stun a while back, and meant to post it as it changed the way that I understood OtL attack resolution. I'll post the whole convo for context, but the good stuff is in Todd's last reply.

    Original Rules Question:
Hi Todd, I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but I had a question in regards to a recent ruling you had on Set for Stun and On the Lam. It seems inconsistent with the FAQ ruling on declaring a new target space. Set for Stun doesn't refer to a target space, and nothing in the stun condition keyword refers to a target space that I can find. Is there something that I am missing, or was that ruling based on how the card is intended to work? Either is fine, I was just confused. Thanks! Your ruling was posted in the forums here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/282510-set-for-stun/?do=findComment&comment=3500816 The FAQ that I'm referring to is below: "During an attack, if the attacker’s line of sight to the target space changes or if the defender moves, the attacker must then re-declare a target space. If none of the defender’s spaces are eligible, the attack misses, there is no target space, and abilities that refer to a target space have no effect." Todd's first reply:
My Follow up question:   Thanks Todd. If I follow your logic correctly; re-declaring a target space (in the FAQ) is being used synonomously with re-declaring a target, and any effects that would affect either the target or target space would become invalid? I assume this does not prevent the attacking figures from using abilities such as Recover or Leia's Military Efficiency, or Blaise's Interrogate as those skills do not have a direct impact on the target figure?

Long time lurker, first time poster. First, let me say that I love FFG -- your products have been my re-introduction to board and tabletop gaming. So thank you.

As an unapologetic lover of the current Star Wars trilogy, my question is simple: Are there plans to introduce the Resistance and First Order into any of FFG's other (non X-Wing) Star Wars miniatures games? Armada? Legion? Imperial Assault?

Is there a possibility of an Imperial Assault-like game using either the Clone Wars, or the current movies?  Which could be like Imperial Assault 2.0.

Here to echo what several others have said. We would all desperately like some more Imperial Assault. It's not really about how much is already out there. There are just some of us who feel that our collection will not be complete until we get those last few things like Yoda. I know that future physical products aren't planned at this time, but can you tell us at all about what factored into that decision? Was it sales? The feeling that you had done as much as you could with the game, and that more product would just be of inferior quality? Or some other factor?
I'd also like to know about FFG's process for when it decides to stop supporting a product or product line. A lot of us in the IA community have given up hope of EVER seeing more physical content. Those people may miss it if it ever finally comes. Do all FFG products get an announcement saying "Hey, this thing is ending" the way that Star Wars TCG did? Without that announcement, is there always the possibility/likelyhood of a product getting an update?
