Agreed. Descent has a wonderful (and at this point almost the only available) competitive mode.

Why take this name? There won't be Descent 3ed?

Dont you have enough with Forsthaven, Gloomhaven, etherfields, Tainted Grail, Darkest Dungeon, Middara.. wait, what about Every single major game in this genre for the last 5 years!!!
To make things worse you say you are happy it's puzzle mode only, but you  are not buying it? Hm. Reasonable.

Descent should remain the competitive one.

I watched the whole video.   I do not like that it is a one and done type of game.   The app will only have 3 save slots forcing you to run the whole campaign.
I get that they can have a smart AI with an app.   I get they can resolve combat with the app quicker.  I get that they can give you weapon bonuses.
But, why would I not just play a video game that is a turn base RPG?

Well why exclude it? Why not have both like 2E? I noticed in the stream they stated that while RTL gave 2E the dungeon crawl feel it was essentially a 1 v many game adapted to a dungeon crawl. With LOTD they wanted to make it an immersive dungeon crawl from the beginning.

Well my point is, sure that's great. Build the game from the ground up to be a Co-Op experience that is a dungeon crawl. But why exclude the Overlord? At least give the players the option. The dungeon can still be crafted dynamically, the Overlord may not even need to have objectives other than to "Slow" the players down.

If this game is so heavily narrative based, why not give the overlord the opportunity to 'Tell the story' make the OL role more of a Dungeon Master instead of a competitive player. I fail to see AT all how the App and AI is going to make smarter moves compared to a real human.

More options for players is NEVER a bad thing. Adapt the rules, change the game play to include ALL play styles. Imagine if it were the other way around? They removed the app and Co-Op ability. They stated they wanted to create a more fast paced PVP feel, more like Chess than story telling. But for no reason at all they just removed the App and all Co-Op options. I and most of us here would be complaining that there is no Co-Op play.

I have no problem with this version being more immersive, more of a dungeon crawl, more narrative focused. In fact I relish the idea. But the Overlord should have been repurposed not removed altogether.

I think everyone already knows that this is not a 3rd edition, but a completely different and blablabla game etc,

what I talk about. It is a suggestion and not a complaint. A request for something that can be bigger until it gets better if they think it's worth it. I'm not behind the game, but if I'm sure I would listen to the community for something that can be an addition and not an impediment. After all who makes the game sell is the fans.

As I said, one thing does not need to exclude the other. they can exist together very well.

There is no current in production games that provide the one verses many dungeon crawl experience... I have a half dozen FANTASTIC co-op games, some narrative heavy, other light with amazing AI, others I'm waiting on via Kickstarter... What there's not is a new game or a alternative with a overlord.. its a whole in the market...

I wish FFG the very best with this, I honestly do...but to be sarcastic to people for wanting a descent product to be a descent game with a overlord  or to support it is a bit dismissive.. Its not a game for us, but people have a right to be upset or sad about the choice... And as I've said I really hope someone else picks up that torch now the descents overlord supported games have let the light go out... For those overlords in the community now is the time to be loud about this publically on forums, not specifically here raging about it but places like BBG so game developers know there's a market and people are hungry for a new contender to take up that torch.

The best mechanic that is to play and be a dungeon master (Overlord) has been removed. We need options and alternatives for the application.
being fully integrated with the app took away the best thing I thought of the series. FF needs to think about the dungeon masters out there that love to play with villainy, and hinder the success of the heroes.

to be done entirely by cards, or implemented in conjunction with the application, but it is necessary!

    don't make that mistake.

Sincerely, someone who loves the franchise.

The good thing is I have all the Descent 2nd products ever launched (except the coop-campaigns. "Coop" and "app" being the key words for not buying this)
    And that's 175 buckazoids saved.

This is a Descent forum. Descent 2nd edition was created using a great 1 vs all system campaign mode. I love it still today, it's my #1 since amazing products like Gloomhaven lack a gamemode: you don't get to face opossing intelligence.
So, for 3rd Edition, I'd love an improvement on that. Not some skirmish

Here I am hoping and begging that tthis is a new edition and that:

PLEASE LET IT NOT BE PUZZLE MODE (solo / "co-op") ONLY
It has been so disappointing that every major dungeon crawler product in the last 4 years has been only puzzles.. including FFG's Lord of the rings one.  I understand the appeal to publish this kind of product since there's a massive irrational demand for them (BGG's majority of users who go all in on everything at pre-orders and are very loud in rating) but man, is it not unfair that:

    -Frosthaven
    -Lord of the rings
    -Middara
    -Etherfields
    -Tainted Grail
    -Gloomhaven
    -Descent's last content (all app)

Did not offer , not even as an expansion, a gamemode where you would compete against your friends in exciting battles? These are only he games I remember.. they may be more!

But I guess it's too late for them to hear me rant, the product may be already done, so fingers crossed!

Already stated else where I hope it maintains both styles of play as the reason I have pretty complete collections of D1e and D2e is because it offers an overlord mode something I can't get elsewhere.... I'd really love a Overlord mode I could play solo but I realise that is wishful thinking at this stage.
Can you share this extensive list of current 1 vs many dungeon crawlers, with experience and progression for both sides of the table, because outside descent and imperial assault (being generous to count it as a crawler rather than a skirmish system) I've spent years looking and come away empty handed. Super dungeon explore has 1 v many mode but is just for one off adventures, then you've got Sword and Sorcery, Middara, Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, Arena, etherfields, Tainted Grail, deep madness, mainsons of madness, Oathsworn etc etc which only offer co-op dungeon/exploration modes.

Yeah I was saying it would be nice if it featured a Competitive mode; it doesn't have to be exclusive. My fear is that they wont, as all the other major titles I mentioned which completely exclude game modes other than puzzle mode.

Look how a poster, a few post above this one ridiculized us for asking this game mode and wants puzzle mode only.. The reality is that that type of player doesn't have enough with Forsthavemn, Gloomhaven, Middara, Etherfields, Tainted Grail, Lord of the rings, Descent app.. they keep going all-in on every new coop product , thus publishers keep pumping them out :(.  I am sure that a potential Descent 3rd edition will feature puzzle mode; I just hope it also includes a good gamemode for me!

I love both modes, that said after a long, long string of enjoyable co-ops we brought out Last Night on Earth - I kind of forgot how great 1 vs Many is.  That was the noisiest, most jokingly argumentative evening in a long time.  That flow of crazily impractical or tactically brilliant moves (even when accidental), the plans that fall apart, or come together are somehow 'more' I think when against the constant unknown and changeable risk of playing a human opponent, even with the complete luck-fest that is LNoE.  People were standing.  We laughed, we fought.
Again, I love both modes - I want to go on adventures with my friends.  I also like to trounce them into a fine sand (I am always the Overlord), or watch them rally toward victory as it slips through my fingers.  I like to win and I like to lose, spectacularly, against their best efforts.
I own MANY co-ops, many of those are a bit puzzley, but I have been looking a fair bit more at 1 vs Many games as of late.

Can't agree or like this post enough.  I have had it with games I want to enjoy only coming out with co-op modes.  My friends and I are highly competitive and enjoy 1 vs many far more.  Unfortunately, co-op mode follows the path we have been going down for years in the US where we dumb everything down, everyone gets a participation trophy, and g-d forbid if someone's precious feelings get hurt ... or "GASP", if they lose ...
