I know this is maybe not a correct place for this but **** do i hate the fact that imperial pilots gear looks so badass compared to rebels. But the rebels take the cake with their ships, as i said above:
A-wing. It's essentially a cockpit attached to two bigass engines. Takes balls to fly and looks amazing.

From just reading tournament results, I'd say:
-- Tier 1 --
K-Wing - Miranda Doni
Ghost - Kanan Jarrus
X-Wing - Biggs Darklighter
E-Wing - Corran Horn
-- Tier 2 --
ARC-170 - Norra Wexley
YT-2400 - Dash Rendar
T-70 XWing - Poe Dameron
YT-1300 - Rey
A-Wing - Jake Farrell
K-Wing - Warden Squadron (Bomber)
Y-Wing - Gold Squadron (TLT)
Y-Wing - Gold Squadron (Stresshog)
ARC-170 - Braylen Stramm (Stressmule)
YT-1300 - Fat Han
X-Wing - Wes Janson
Ghost - Lothal Rebel (Close Combat Bumper)
A-Wing - Green Squadron (Papercut - Swarm)
-- Tier 3 --
B-Wing - Keyan Farlander, Nera Dantels
T-70 - Ello Asty, Snap, Nien, Jess
Y-Wing - Horton Salm, Dutch Vander
ARC 170 - Shara, Thane
X-Wing - Wedge, Luke, Tarn Mison (M9G8 or R7 Astro)
Ghost - Chopper, Hera
K-Wing - Esege
U-Wing - Cassian, Heff
YT-1300 - Chewbacca
A-Wing - Tycho
-- Tier 4 & 5 --
B-Wing - Ten Numb, Blue Squadron, Dagger Squadron
T-70 - Blue Ace
X-Wing - Hobbie
and basically everyone else
But that's just my oppionion.
In fact it also depends on your local meta a lot!
For example: I am a terrible Ghost player and I have never had any success with that in my local meta

So a tier 1 ship maybe a lot worse than tier 3 ship for you personally in your meta.
You can use anything from tier 1 - tier 3 in a competitive environment.
Thank you for your answer, it was very helpful. It's great to see that this game has so many viable options if you want to make a competitive list. (Not that im going to participate in the near future.)

I prefer top, mid or low tiers. 5 levels is perhaps too granular and you risk people arguing over a single placing. The other thing to remember is that pilots play a big role in a ship's competativeness. T65s are pretty far down the competitivness scale but Biggs turns up so often you would think that Camino retrieved his body after Vader shot him down. Wes, Tarn and sometimes even Wedge can still put in a showing.
Similarly the Outrider is pretty strong, particularly when run in "Super Dash" configuration but I don't think I have seen a Wild Space Fringer.
Everyone is welcome to use any tier system they want, mine was just a suggestion. And i forgot to add it but id be ineterested to hear your rough estimates about the ships, including their pilots. Like a tier 1 ship would have pilots that are almost all good and the ship would work with many upgrades and lists etc. And a tier 5 ship would come with no good pilots at all and its pretty much trash with any upgrade and lists. I know that in this game its difficult to place ships into tiers like that, but id just want to know your rough estimates so i could get an overall summary what ships are "in".

As a new player it's pretty hard to visualize what ships are worth buying and what i should avoid, ive run 4 A-wings with success (against another noob though) and its probably my favourite ship visually and mechanically. But i'd just like to know how you guys perceive the "meta" of the game if you can use that term.
So if there's tiers from 1-5, how would you divide the ships into tiers? Please keep in mind both competitive and casual play (best balance between the two.) Thank you

If you want to fly a Rebel Swarm, then you need five A-wings. If you're not playing in competition, then proxy these upgrades: Crack Shot, Juke, Autothrusters and Push the Limit are all popular choices. Snap Shot is fun (especially paired with Juke.) Other A-wing afficianadoes like Adpatability or VI on their Green Squadron Pilots.
If you want to fly swarms in general, then Empire is probably a better faction for you.
E-wings are not good. Corran Horn is good; the rest of the E-wing pilots make great bookmarks.
Don't worry about meta unless you are playing in tornaments. If you're mostly playing with your dad, then get the ships you both think are cool and play lists you think are fun. That being said, the meta is very diverse right now. Take a look at any forum thread regarding 2016 Worlds or current Regional results. You'll get a good breakdown of the lists people are flying competitively.
I recommend these purchases: K-wing for Rebels and First Order TIE for Empire. Both of these sets come with the cards they need to be useful. Any of the multi-ship packs (Rebel Aces, Imperial Veterans, etc.) are also great value for money. The Y-wing is a good ship; it's better with stuff that comes in the Most Wanted and K-wing sets.
Thank you for your answer. I actually ordered 4 a-wings today since they seemed super fun to fly, probably gonna get the fifth from aces later. And i know empire is the more swarmy faction but cmon, down with the empire and the sith, rebels and jedi ftw!

But more seriously i kinda want an all around roster so that i can make different types of lists so when my dad learns to make lists for himself i can start thinking about countering him. (Not very fair to make myself a counter list against a list that i made for him lol.)

I play x-wing with my dad, i play rebels and he plays imperials and have been thinking about going into my local store in the future. Right now i own a Falcon, X-wing x2, and B-wing x2. I've been running mostly falcon with 2x X-wings, and occasionally a list of X-wings x2 and B-wings x2.
I'm thinking of purchasing some more ships but i have no idea what i should get. A swarm list has been interesting me for a while and i thought of maybe getting a couple of A's or Z-95's. I also read somewhere that E-wings are good(?). There's also Y-wings that seem like an interesting choice.
Right now im thinking of a following list:
100pt
Green squadron pilot
Green squadron pilot
Green squadron pilot
Rookie pilot
Blue squadron pilot
Is this a decent swarm list? What ships would you recommend for a swarm list?
Also, wanted to take this opportunity and also ask about what is the meta currently? What ships for rebels or imperials are considered best atm and why? My dad is a 50 year old man so naturally he is not so good at following these things so i have to also ask a little for him too.
Green squadron pilot

Opinions on my rebel list?

I made this list for casual play just for fun. Any advice? What do you think? I call it the Biggs party.
Biggs Darklighter
R5-D8(3)
Hull upgrade(3)
B squad pilot(22)
Fire control system(2)
Heavy laser cannon(7)
Proton torpedoes(4)
Ion torpedoes(5)
B-wing/E2(1)
G squad pilot(19)
Vectored thrusters(2)
Idea is that Biggs and Blue fly as a pair with Biggs taking shots away from the Blue as Blue pours hellrain upon the enemy, and the A-wing harasses and arc dodges the enemy. Is there a better way to do this?
