Newest batch: I've reached wave 5!
Arquitens. Minor editing. Added a salvo build with Reactive Gunnery. Updated Baby's First Flagship with Reeva and Advanced Projectors. Moff Jerjerrod. Minor edits. Lambda Minor edits. TIE Defender. Moderate edits. Some upkeep for 1.5 changes and mentioning that they've improved overall due to the ace restrictions. Decimator Minor edits. TIE Phantom More minor edits. The wave 5 squads were already in a good place. Weapon teams Major overhaul on Gunnery Team. NO YOU CAN'T USE ADVANCED GUNNERY WITH 1.5 GUNNERY TEAM, STOP TRYING PLEASE. Moderate overhaul on Ordnance Experts. Removed some of the discussion on which dice to reroll and how aggressively to reroll as that was an artifact of when Ordnance Experts worked on potentially every black dice in your pool. I still discuss when to reroll single hits if you don't have 2 blanks, but there isn't a need for as much math to prove my point.

Raid may be delicate but at the moment it is far from useful. There’s a reason why you hardly ever see a gauntlet squadron at the table. (That‘s a pity, mandalorians would be so popular now!) How often do you see Kanan and Captain Rex? Jyn Erso, anyone ever? It’s plain stupid in most cases to discard Iden Versio, because you gain nearly nothing from dealing Raid tokens and gain so much from her card effect. Even Count Dooku is very easy to counter because he must openly declare the three Raid tokens he will deal during the game. And there are not only Commander Upgrades like Bail, Thrawn and Garm, but there are plenty of other upgrades that grant or modify Command tokens. They are so very useful that you will find them in most fleet builds anyway. Think alone of Comms Net, Hondo, Ahsoka. And that will become even more widespread with upgrades that need Command tokens to recur. As @Garrett17 wrote in most cases it‘s not worth the effort to deal Raid tokens at all. And I would bet, that even Dooku will be only niche and widely outclassed by Kraken. The reason is, that he doesn‘t help his own fleet and against most fleets he won‘t have enough impact. Raid looks good at the paper only.
In my eyes Raid could be interesting if it would have a reasonable chance to affect an opponent‘s fleet. (It‘s strange not wanting it to have an impact because it would be against the opponent‘s chore. When you play against Sloane and watch your Defense tokens melt, that isn‘t less destructive! Or when your enemy may choose 1 of 4 damage cards to be dealt openly, that can hurt really bad. Dooku like any commander needs to have the potential to affect the game or it will be a lame duck like Admiral Konstantine.) For that Raid needs a buff or it should be redone completely. I know it‘s very unlikely to happen any time soon. But I find it interesting to think of a way it could be done. Maybe not so much of a topic for players focused on competitive play. But who likes to theory crafting about game mechanics a bit is invited to give it a thought.

Raid is a very delicate mechanic:
It doesn't improve your fleet, as much as it destroys the ability of your opponent's finely crafted fleet to work.
If raid gets much better, the game becomes quite the chore for the opponent. A NPE if you will.

I think we should wait to see how Dooku and the increase in token needs plays out before drawing any conclusions... 😉

Every time I play with or play against units that deal Raid tokens, it feels disappointing. Last time was the first game with Count Dooku against Bail Organa, who happens to be a hard counter. The possibility to get rid of Raid with tokens and dials are so plenty and often you can even ignore them at all. Even worse: If the ship has already a Command token of the same type as the Raid token it is dealt, the effort is nearly meaningless.
A few minutes ago a thought crossed my mind, how Raid could be a little less ignorable. What if Raid token would count towards the limit of Command tokens a ship may hold. Every Raid token meaning one fewer Command token would be an annoying side effect, making even unimportant sorts of Raid tokens a bit of a problem. Command-1 ships can be really in trouble holding a Squadron-Raid even if its no carrier, it wouldn't be able to hold any Command tokens at all. Not only that you would have to discard your Command token the instant you receive the Raid, it would be the only way to discard a dial, to get rid of one or more Raid tokens. Same if Command-2 or -3 ships is dealt 2 or more Raid.
What do you think? Does Raid need any buff at all? Would that suggestion be a good way to give it a little more of importance to the game play? Or all too powerful?

This appears to be a very heated thread. I won't pretend to have read more than the first page before saving myself the posturing.
Intentionally parsing the rule text incorrectly to achieve the result you wish is not good gaming. With the Clanker Killer talent you remove up to your ranks in boost die from the pool, choose whether they represent a one success or one advantage result on said boost die, then roll the remainder pool for the final results.

It's not worth three pages of discussion, it's quite clear. Now you may WANT to choose what each boost die represented after the pool is rolled, but that is gaming the dice pool results. Eat your failure with "n" success or success with "n" advatage. Move on.

Hey Folks. Just sharing what I've received from AMG about how / when / if forums will be created at AMG in an email i sent.

    "Hey Derek!
Sadly you are correct - I don’t have any real information to give you. We will just have to wait before we can talk much about anything Star Wars related, but I’ve got your email and appreciate the introduction!
I hope to have more information soon.
    Cheers!"

Its not much, but considering that I got a response within 10 minutes of sending an email to them. That speaks volumes I feel.

Armada isn't too concerned with such minute details.
    The X-wings are... X-wings, not T-65 X-wings like they are in X-wing 2.0.
So from a certain point of view, Delta-7 is correct.

If they're using a token to ditch raid, then they're down one squadron that they had a plan to use already.  It also helps that Hardcells can slice while they're fighting instead of being on a flimsy little flotilla.

TLDR: To make sure unengaged AI bombers get extra dice during the squadron phase because you were busy doing something else during the ship phase.
So this card was bugging me at first for how utterly valueless it seemed when compared to the other fighter-based offensive retrofits you could take due to the following principles:
    1) Generally you want to move later rather than sooner before the shooting starts
    2) When the shooting starts you want to activate sooner rather than later
HSB seemed utterly useless because it specifically worked against both these principles because you basically only get to use more fighters at a time in the squadron phase with the AI benefit only kicking in if you were attacking only and not moving.
That meant you could use the card to move more fighters early in the squadron phase which works against you because you generally want to move after your opponent (unless you just want to be shot during the squadron phase) and can't effectively defer the effect of the card for long because even if you don't use it you still have to activate squadrons normally leaving you fewer squadrons to use as the phase goes on. Violates principle 1.
It also means that you could attack with full armament provided you're willing to wait until the squadron phase. But that means you'd have to be engaged with someone first going INTO the squadron phase. Given half the droids are 3-hull, this struck me as a terrible idea. If someone engaged you during the turn or you engaged them the turn before you're probably not going to make it to the squadron phase unless you're throwing an enormous swarm of them and counting on some of them living long enough. Violates principle 2.
And you have to feed the card!
But I finally had an epiphany this morning. You could use HSB to trigger AI on bombers to strike at full armament during the squadron phase while controlling starfighters with squadron commands during the ship phase. If you're playing correctly, enemy squadrons are tied up elsewhere with fighters but you're close enough to command them while bombers who are hopefully further from the fight and planted right in a ship's path earlier can be reached by HSB which naturally extends communication range.
This is just about the only circumstance I can think of where HSBs would win out over the other offensive retrofits on offer.
    Anyone have any other ones?

Rimsen reacted to RLogue177 in Pius Dea era speculation
I saw artwork for the cathedral ships (somewhere) and it gave me the 40k Imperium vibe too. So I read up a bit about the Pius Dea era. I decided to throw a little taste of it into my game. I was running Empire-era game at the time, set just after the Battle of Yavin.
The PCs found a derelict ship on an out-of-the-way world. It wasn't anything as large as a cathedral ship. It was more of a ship designed for constructing pre-fab settlements. The Pius Dea era was one of aggressive expansion and all of the worlds you see named Ord something (like Ord Mantell) were settled during this time. This ship was from late in the Pius Dea Crusades and was parked on this planet, but was not activated, and this world was not settled. Of course, that was 11,000 years ago; time and the environment hadn't been kind to it. It was cool for an exploration scene and to learn a little of the galaxy's past. In the hold, they found a lot of construction material and a few construction droids. I wanted to see what the PCs would do with it, but they just packed up the droids and sold them later on.
Within the derelict, they found a sarcophagus of a Jedi from the Order of the Terrible Glare who had fallen in battle. This would have sat at the center of a Pius Dea cathedral that would have been constructed on this world. The sarcophagus, I decided was in the form of carbon frozen slab. The Jedi laid in state, in heavy armor with a shield and hammer. The slab was "deactivated;" no flickering lights or control panel to unfreeze the contents like on the Han Solo carbon frozen slab. (To unfreeze the contents, the PCs were going to have to hunt down a Pius Dea era control module from far off somewhere else.)
Going with the 40k vibe, I decided Jedi from the Order of the Terrible Glare would have worn heavy armor very much resembling 40k Grey Knights. The one in the sarcophagus has a thunder hammer. The PCs never got to it (they sold the sarcophagus to a collector they found), but picture a thunder hammer powered by a kyber crystal. The armor would assist the wearer through a droid brain. Sort of like getting into a hollow droid that could assist you in battle and take over if something happened to you. There was also the knight's stormbolter in there as well.
Very powerful stuff. But they sold it all for gas money and magic beans. Leading horses to water... or something.
If you like 40k stuff, the Pius Dea definitely gives you a solid opportunity to put some of it into the Star Wars setting. Being that the Crusades took place 11,000-13,000 years before the current age gives you a lot of play for whatever you want to do. Cathedral ships, xenophobia, war, expansion, different takes on weaponry and armor. Fun!
