How Do I Fly My Double-Ace-Double-Jouster List?
kempokid replied to BlastyMcBlasterFace's topic in X-Wing
See, it's weird flying FO aces because it's Kylo, QD, and one other ship. People usually go for QD first, which is what I want because of her ability. So I'm usually OK losing her since it usually leads to me getting decent return damage. But I can see how losing the top ace in those other lists is devastating. And it's not as simple as "well just don't lose Nien." -

That's fair. So, I actually made the post that inspired them to do the topic (and Carson gave some good commentary on that post). So I'm in the same boat as you. Getting Over the Jousting Syndrome I've decided to just tackle the ace flying head-on and go with three Ace ships to work and get better at it. But it's still certainly valid to have the workhorse ships as well. -

Is there a reason for your half-and-half approach over going full-aces with Poe/Nien/L'ulo? -
Because I’m having too much fun putting the First Order on the table. Also I think other X-Wing pilots are more fun/interesting to fly (Wedge, two-tubes, Kullbee, Luke).
-
Though mere months ago I scoffed at the idea of new factions, I could not be more hype for the Republic faction.
-
Ugh fine, I added an Arc to my pre-order. Happy now?
-
yeah, I'm steering clear of the Separatists and Resistance for a while. I couldn't pass up the chance to fly Obi-Wan and Mace Windu though.... Oh yeah and Anakin I guess. And Yoda (in the future).
-
I pre-ordered two Delta-7's and the Guardians of the Republic pack. I'm thinking three Delta-7 aces will be fun (fingers-crossed). Stopped short on the Arc-170, though I may go ahead and add it as well so I'll have a total of 7 ships in the faction (if there's any reason to use two Arc-170's).

Maybe it's not one or the other, but both list-building and in-game flying. Personally, I think it's all equal, though the more ships you have the more in-game thinking there is because you increase the number of decisions you have to make.

This is a very weird thing to insist on, one way or another without: knowing the cost of the upgrade seeing the updated rules that we obviously need understanding how the device works, seeing as it's not on a base nor is it a standard device/obstacle since it moves during play
-
So you think a ship will go through it, completing its maneuver as if nothing happened, but the droid will have to roll the attack die? That's a fair guess. On the other hand, I'd absolutely risk rolling an eye if this thing does keep ships from completing its maneuver/taking an action. It does seem too good for what it will likely be worth. The ability to block adds, I'd say, maybe 8-10 points to the cost of the upgrade.

Probe Droid is really interesting here, outside of whether or not you can shoot it (we’re all pretty much assuming yes, with likely a rule change/edit coming). Anytning that makes jam more viable is good, as right now it’s a very underwhelming element to the game. And if you have an Ace that can grab a target lock outside of combat, then circle in with a chance to reposition or get further mods, it could be really handy (haven’t paid enough attention yet to know if there’s an Ace in that faction yet).

New article still promotes a Q1 release date, which is any time between now and end of March.

Gotcha, makes sense. I've always kept the Force token from crew/gunner on the crew/gunner card while playing instead of "adding it to the pool" but it makes sense if it can be spent like the pilot's initial Force charges anyway.
-
When Dooku's card says "all Force charges are active" does it include the pilot's force tokens and the Force from the crew card as well?

Looking for Pre-made squadron lists to help a friend
kempokid replied to Galahax's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
I’m not meaning this with any ill-intent at all, but if your friend wants to play the game, they need to learn what the cards do. It takes more time and effort outside of playing but it will make both setting up the game and actual in-game interactions easier. If it’s too much for them or you to commit to learning all the cards you have, maybe stick to mini-swarms with all the same upgrades. A couple of generic x-wings with protons is viable. So are TIE swarms. I get you want to add flavor to the game too. It’s just a balance. If you read these squad building forums you should get a small sense of what is and isn’t viable. Edit: Also, a lot of us here could help provide some viable lists if we knew what your collection was. Having the rebel and empire conversion kits is handy. There’s also the Hyperspace format right now that limits what is legal so that could be a good route to take. Just know that empire is kinda struggling right now in Hyperspace -
lol it’s $11.00 now.

Are you playing first edition or second edition? If you’re playing second edition, you definitely need to go the Quick Build route. Pre-designed ship builds and you choose a “threat level” and match a squad to that level. If you’re playing first edition, I’d recommend just taking time one day instead of playing to put together 5-10 unique lists that you can pull out in the future without having to configure them on the spot. -
Wedge. I faced him twice last week, and while in one game he got some decent shots off, I was able to corner him in both games and take him down without as much effort as I anticipated.

I thought we’d get an article today...

How are you flying Kylo now and what are you flying him with?
kempokid replied to Erichxzann's topic in X-Wing
Advanced Optics is wonderful. Hate is nice if points allow. Try to keep a decent bid, as there's a lot of good i5 pilots out there. Don't worry about his ability unless you have 2 Forces unused and you know you're going to get the recharge right back. -
First Order Hyperspace - Kylo, Quickdraw, Filler
kempokid replied to DarthSempai's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
Yep this, only time to use the ability is when you’re only defending and you know you’ll get the force recharge right back. Two force tokens stacked with something like Adv Optics means you can usually hit hard while keeping some mods for defense, which is great on a 3/3 ship. Then of course i5 with potential for a force upgrade makes him nice too depending on the rest of your build.
