Nheko got a reaction from FelixFenix in Ronin Shugenja?
Minor nitpick Fuzake Garou was a the shugenja follower of Toku (Bushi and founder of the Monkey Clan itself) and in old canon became the founder of the Monkey Clan shugenja family.

Indeed it is. I had the chance to play in one a long time ago and it was very rewarding experience.

I would assume eventually a "book o minor clans" yes, with notes and guidelines which walk you through founding a Minor Clan, similar to PoW making Gaijin Cultures, and will probably have a collection of historical and modern Minor Clans. Founding your own Minor Clan sounds like an appropriate goal/high-level reward for certain campaigns.

Nheko reacted to Tonbo Karasu in The Celestial Realms - New RPG Sourcebook
I hope that they'll do something similar to Path of Waves, but for Minor Clans, picking up the various named but not investigated Clans of this edition and possibly a couple of other odd ones. Then you have a chapter about building your own Minor Clan, very much like the build-your-own gaijin nation thing. That might even be the first book that Edge does...
ETA - I was unclear with the City of the Rich Frog thing. The Tonbo is indeed the supervisor of the Dragon quarter of the city rather than Governor of the whole thing.

Nheko reacted to MonCalamariAgainstDrunkDriving in The Celestial Realms - New RPG Sourcebook
If Dragonfly, Fox, and Wasp are with Dragon, Unicorn, and Scorpion respectively, where do the Hare fit in? And I bet at least one of those books has a new Minor Clan instead.
Maybe we do still end up with a Minor Clan book? If each Great Clan book is only going to have one Minor Clan, AND they're going to add new Minor Clans, there's going to be a few left over. Badger, Hare, and Sparrow, at least. Maybe Boar?

I could be wrong but I believe that the governor of the City of Rich Frog is an Imperial, but the leader of the Dragon District is a Tonbo.
They are really neat clan.

Nheko reacted to Black_Rabbit_Inle in Reclaiming Daylight Castle (Shiro Hiruma)
My players cleansed daylight castle.
In my campaign, After the events of "Mask of the Oni" the players went to the Crab and asked about mustering an army to take back Hiruma Palace, but Kisada wouldn't allow it, as it would take too many soldiers off the wall. (and Considering Moto Tsume was about to make a major attack on the wall, it turned out Kisada was probably right.), However, the PC's had been on very good terms with the Ratling tribe from "Mask of the Oni", and in one side quest they had also met a Heroic Ratling chieftan who was running around the shadowlands saving other Ratlings from the growing shadowlands army.. That cheiftan ran a warren that was beginning to suffer greatly from over-crowding.. So they ended up helping the PC's take and Garrison Daylight Castle in order to have a more secure place for some of them to stay. Also Hida Yakamo had showed up in the middle of the fight with "His personal bodyguard" in defiance of Kisada.. Yakamo assigned some low-ranking Kaiu to help rebuild Daylight Castle, but that still didn't solve the problem of cleansing the palace and the surrounding lands. In order to achieve that goal, the PC's had to travel around the empire, finding powerful kami and convincing them to go to the shadowlands and chase away the Kansen. It turned out they would also need to use a Naga Pearl (and fortunately for them, some of the Naga were just beginning to wake up), so the PC's had to exercise some diplomacy as they needed to get the Crab, Ratlings, and Naga to work together.

Hey, solving logistics problem should be the climax of ANY Crab campaign.

Nheko reacted to neilcell in Reclaiming Daylight Castle (Shiro Hiruma)
I know that in the AEG continuity the Castle and its environs were not reclaimed from the Shadowlands until 1130-1131. But thanks to the Adventure Oni's Mask and the Shadowlands Sourcebook, it occurs to me that despite Rokugan descending into civil war and anarchy, this could still be an opportunity to take back the Hiruma Family's ancestral home. And for a Crab focused campaign, many sessions could be devoted to it. Granted it would be more martially focused, but there are opportunities for courtiers to shine, such as acting as "ferrets" for the Kuni and using their social skills to make sure the NPCs remain untainted and spotting those who are before they become a greater threat.
Phase one is pretty obvious, leading a force of Crab to take control of the castle from its denizens for which the Shadowlands source books gives plethora of threats to face. Likewise many of these threats could be used during an extended siege period.
Phase two would be the cleansing and rebuilding of the stronghold. Here courtiers and artisans could put their talents to use making sure the repair crews remain untainted and restoring the damaged or destroyed parts of the castle or completely replacing the areas too heavily tainted for the Kuni to simply purge.
Phase three would be to help the Kuni use the processes they used to purge their wastelands of Kansen and taint in the lands surrounding the Castle and eventually all of Ienikaeru province. Granted, it would be blasted and barren, but at least it would not be corrupted.
A possible fourth Phase might be for Kaiu Engineers to extend the carpenter wall out to and around Shiro Hiruma in much the same manner that Wall Maria and Wall Rose extend out to surround Shiganshina and Trost in the Attack on Titan series. Again, this would be an opportunity for Courtiers and Artisans to shine.
Just some of my thoughts? Anyone have other ideas?

Nheko reacted to Myrion in Agasha Mystic School Ability Clarifications
Possibly, but the preview didn't mention Void invocations, instead giving Void a new technique type, called inversions.
So I guess we'll see - but I expect no Void invocations or backlash.
-
Nheko reacted to Myrion in Agasha Mystic School Ability Clarifications
Yes, that is how it would work. You've switched the element out, so now you get the opportunities from that element and the backlash from that element. It can, f.ex. also be worthwhile to cast Path to Inner Peace using Fire and intentionally taking the backlash to affect multiple targets.
Void doesn't prevent the backlash based on any interaction with the strife symbols, it does it by not having a backlash written. So you trigger Void backlash, and the effect is "null". The 3 fatigue might still happen, though, that's true.
And yeah, it's about the symbols, not strife received, so the stance effect and strife-reducing oppos wouldn't help.
The school ability works by changing the ring you use, so instead of Theology (Fire) it's Theology (Void) for example. That makes it a Void check, not a Fire check, and so the opportunities you get are any Void opportunities you have access to and which can trigger off a Scholar skill or an invocation. There are no Void invocation opportunities, but there are generic Void opportunities (and there might be some from techs) and these you can use. Similarly, because it is now a Void check, you'd use Void backlash.

Nheko reacted to Myrion in you lose honor, or lose honor
They probably also gain honor either way and then it matters a bit what you lose and gain it for.
Remember that your gains and losses are doubled for the favoured tenet and halved for the less important one. So a Scorpion would possibly gain honor by reporting on him, because he'd gain more from Loyalty than he'd lose from Compassion.
A Unicorn would be the opposite, as she'd gain more from Compassion than Duty& Loyalty. Others may end up largely neutral.

Nheko reacted to Hida Jitenno in Dark Winter in the North
The gates of Kyuden Asako have closed three weeks before the official start of the Winter Court. Unseasonable blizzards have swept across the Phoenix Lands. Fortunately for our intrepid party, their invitations came and travel was timely arranged.
This is not the Winter Court. Hantei II is wintering at Kyuden Akodo, as are all the Clan Champions and Elemental Masters. Rumors fly throughout the town that Otomo's son will be attending, searching for a wife among the Asako. Several taisa from the War represent all the Clans, and a retired elderly Priestess of Bishamon is preparing the opening ceremonies.
Today, though, the festivities have not yet begun. After three days of nonstop snowfall, there has finally been some sun. The servants have cleared away an outdoor terrace, lit eight braziers around. Four shugenja students, likely old enough to take their gempukku in the spring, tend to the fires, moving the warm air about for a pleasant early-fall temperate.
Various under-dignitaries have assembled to talk. Even if the official Winter Court hasn't started, maneuvering has begun. Favors are being discussed behind fans, while veterans share quiet moments for comrades lost.
Into this scene, our PCs enter!

Nheko reacted to Harzerkatze in Looking for PBP campaign interest
Our GM, @Hida Jitenno, wrote me that at the beginning of the campaign, two years have passed since the end of the war.
So the year is 44 IC.
44 years since the Kami descended from heaven, bringing with them the craft of iron smithing, the art of writing, the cultivation of rice, music, poetry, and so much more.
That means there are people still alive who grew up and reached adulthood before the Kami were there, who were bown in the Branze Age. Many probably still doubt whether these newfangled gods are really fit to be worshipped. Hantei is ascended, but others of the Kami are still living among the humans: Gods among men.
"The world was young, the mountains green,
no strain yet on the moon was seen..."

Nope. There are extremely few katana in the Empire. The Kami, their family daimyo maybe, the Emerald Champion. Might be one or two others.
