  1. I'd like to hear other people's opinions on Beefy mini-swarms vs acey lists.

Some ace players and podcasts mentioning frustration with the number of turns played.... especially vs some rebel and now Republic lists with a lot to chew throug.  ( 34 health on an Arc + 5 Torrents   etc )   Between having more ships and hull to chew through, there will also be less time because I have more dials to deal with than they do.  ( 6 dials vs 3 dials will nearly always take longer..   and then movement too. )

It's my opinion that these lists help throttle back i6 or i6/i5 ace lists with large bids.    I've played some i4 and i5 lists and was beaten handily by i5/i6 lists because they could either get me in arc at will, or get out of my arcs with reposititons..    And if they happen to get ahead, just run away until the end of the game.   IMO, those are frustrating and boring.      One option is to play that game.. take high initiative repositioning ships and a large bid to be the last player to move and pounce on other ships often without return fire.   I guess it may be fun to be that player.

I realize that those ships are vulnerable and one mistake can cost you the game.  I'm not saying it's easy to play

I have a theory that going down the ace road leads to fewer ships, fewer engagements and a real weakness of firepower.   Vader Soontir + other vs Sinker in an Arc and 5 torrents can really struggle.  So many arcs to dodge.. free mods to everyone in arc of Sinker.   The ace player needs to be way more aggressive than usual because

    1. they have a lot of ships/points to kill
    2. fewer turns because of added dial and movement time.
    3. little likelyhood of getting ahead early and running away  ( this may not be a common thing, but I hear of it and have seen it )

I'm curious what people think of this style of play to counter aces lists?   It seems that a good counter to the swarmy list is 4-5 mid init aces...   the kind of list that does not do well vs i6 lists.

If you think that my list type ruins the game, I'd love to hear it as well...   along with why.    No attacks on anyone please.. .keep it civil.   :)

  2. I'm having fun with 8 Torrents ( no success but fun )   But I'm having great success with Sinker and 5 Torrents and just last week  Sinker, Padme and 4 torrents.      So full swarm and a couple mini swarms.   I've been a 4 ship rebel player for a couple years.   Going from 4 to 6-8 caused me some serious issues with bumping but its gotten better and I enjoy it.   I don't know how my brain would handle a 6 game day.. but I was exhaused with 4 ships. I doubt it will be worse.     I played 8 torrents vs 8 vulture droids.  It was fun... not boring at all.

I have a site with printable generic proxies. Pilot, ship token and dial.  Download and print on cardstock at 100% and they should work for you.

  4. and they explained failed actions on page 11

    FAIL
Some effects can fail, which means the effect did not resolve as intended and
instead is resolved in a default way.
    • A ship can fail when it barrel rolls, boosts coordinates, decloaks, deploys,
    jams, locks, or SLAMs.
    • An effect that fails does not trigger any effects that would occur after a
    ship resolves that effect.
    • If an action fails, the player does not choose a different action to perform
and cannot choose to resolve the effect in a different way.
    • If an action fails, since the action was not completed, that ship cannot
    perform a linked action.
    • If a red action fails, the ship does not gain a stress token.

  6. You'll be able to save up for the aggressor first and play the ship more often, but I'd recommend finishing your original goal of saving for the Raider. I just started playing Epic with my two sons and we all agreed that it's fun, and plays differently than the combos in 100/6 games.   Our local store did an epic night to celebrate the C-Roc release.  Fun was had and we will repeat that as well.     You can play epic vs small ships too, its fun.

  7. My bet is if they released card packs it would be like Magic.  You buy a pack of random cards and hope to get what you want/need.  Selling cards one at a time or just cards from an upgrade would probably cost nearly as much as the ship... well, they'd likely charge more than most people would want/expect.

The cheapest way to get individual cards is to buy them off eBay or friends.    It would be nice if you could.  It would be a nice option but I doubt there is enough pushback from the current business model for FFG to add this option.    You can always sell your models to help cover card costs.

  8. I wholehardedly agree with those recommending casual play.    My most fun games are non 100/6 games.    My two boys and I play regularly and at least half our games are made up.      A new one that even makes a 100/6 game play completely differently is one we call For Of War.   Here is a link to our preliminary rules we are working on.

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/14kL-BD4jwXwsSBTfrtfb8m9EEdPCSfk9_QLqw_kJVx4

we have a few others I'll write up    Epic is also fun and plays differently

  9. I regularly play with both my 14 and 16 year old boys.   Few things warm the heart more than your teenage kids asking if you'll play with them.     We will usually play 1v1 but often invent our own casual 1v1v1 or 1v2 games including epic

I play rebel, my 14 year old flies Imperial and my 16 year old flies scum.   so we buy everything. We play Mondays at Affinity for Gaming in Crystal Lake, IL ( outside Chicago ) with the group "The Sarlacc Pit Crew"     They call us the Karchwalker Clan.

One casual game we invented we call monster in the middle.  each of us gets 1 or 2 ships and there is a fully loaded K-wing or Punisher ( the monster ) in the middle of the table.   when its your turn, the monster is your ally to control.  its funny trying to get near it when its your turn and run away from it other turns.   we are also creating a blind-man's-bluff version where your pilot and all upgrade cards are hidden until you use a card/ability.    Pilot skill 0 or lowest generic ( and start with a generic base until you shoot, then reveal/place the actual ship base.   weapons and special abilities could be anything until they are used.   its crazy.

happy fathers day all.   We will probably play 150 pt Epic 1v1v1 today.
