  1. Is this in the faq or ufaq and I missed it? What part of the wording indicates 1 per attack?

Also, if someone could offer insight on blast and sweep.

Would I have to remove one token for each monster I want to have the shield bonus, or can I only choose one?

And if I am blasting, does it add 1 for each hero with just one removal, then added to each person affected as well? Do I have a varied attack, i.e. whoever has tokens has +1 heart if I choose?

As I understand some of the basic II cards, a blast uses the same modifiers to all heroes if you have some bonus contingent on a particular class, given they are the target.

Still in the dark on something comparable for Sweep.

  2. Airborne and Contaminated have abilities that add shields or hearts depending on infection tokens on the hero. My group sees the wording as pretty open ended on how they can be discarded per attack. Currently, we play as many tokens as desired up to the total can be discarded per attack. I tend to think this doesn't work because it says 1 token, but it doesn't say per attack or only 1. We also played that when using blast, the shield effects would guard each target i.e. discard 2 tokens, each defense roll gets +2 shields.

I think, essentially, I'd like an explanation of the timing of when the tokens are removed, or clarification of when "after rolling dice" relates, would offer the most insight.

Also curious how this works with Sweep. If one hero has a token, can I discard it to add a heart to the whole attack? If 4 heroes would be affected, can I discard them all? That seems OP... ;)

  3. Playing Army of Dal'Zunm this coming Friday.

The quest states that the heroes can spend an action to reveal the color of an objective token, and can then spend another action to place it on their hero sheet if it is blue or discard it if red (no action). It says a hero or Lieutenant may equip the green objective token if adjacent to it. But because the overlord has the ability to see what some of the objective token colors are by discarding a card, is a lieutenant able to directly (on OL turn with an action) equip the Relic or green objective after swapping it? Does it stay flipped, and does the one it is swapped with stay unflipped?

The rules do not specifically state an objective token has to be flipped over before it is equipped. If it can't be equipped by a lieutenant after swapping, the only way for the OL to equip it is to kill the hero who has it already equipped.

When the OL looks at a token, does it get flipped even if he doesn't exchange it?

The favor on this ruling seems to tip one way or the other based on interpretation, so if you can see another input that I am missing to make it balanced, that is good, too!

I haven't had my last question from a week ago answered by FFG yet, so I don't expect an official ruling before I play this, so opinions and insight are much appreciated.

  4. I sent the question to FFG.

The heroes felt I beat them too badly the first few quests, and talked about restarting the campaign or choosing a different OL, so to appease them, I promised 3 rumor quests. I also told them they were going to get way stronger than me very quickly, which, of course, happened. I am having a blast, and I don't mind losing, but, of course, I want to crush their spirits into dust. :D

I also conceded to them that I would try to choose a new monster group for my open groups each quest so as to mix it up and make it interesting. That has been my weak point for sure, and now that we are starting Act II, I will no longer be doing them that favor. I looked up Unholy Ritual, and I don't know if you realized, but it also got nerfed. Hard to say which is better...

    Unholy Ritual:
The card should read, “Play this card at the start of your
turn. Choose one of your monster groups and draw Overlord cards equal
to the number of figures from that group on the map. Choose and keep
2 cards and discard the rest. Each monster in that group performs 1 less
    action during this turn.”

  5. Okay, it's even better. I called my buddy who played Logan and he reminded me of the sequence. Bard gave 1MP, Dead Man's Compass 1MP, searched via Dungeoneer, got 5th token (2 stamina, 1 curse doll, 1 warding talisman, 1 fire flask, all unused at this point) spent Gold Rush, moved 5. That's 7MP with 1 action taken that gave him a free attack. Attacked master dragon with Trident rolled 2H + surge on blue, 3H + surge on red, +1 for being not adjacent, 2 pierce from Sleight of Hand, I rolled 2 shield, but negated, 1 surge spent on +2H, one on +2MP, he did 8 damage. Mind you, he has reach. Used heroic feat to gain 4 more MP, but didn't have to move to attack 2nd Crypt Dragon. Did 2H and Surge on blue, and 3H on red, I rolled blanks, he did 5 damage, spent surge on 2 more MP. 1 action completed... 15 movement points used. Used final fatigue for 1MP, then used a stam pot, got 4MP to put him 1 space from final search token. Mind you, he walked THROUGH my blockade of Chaos Beasts at this point because Gold Rush was exhausted. No fatigue left, so spent second stam pot, searched final search token, and got a health pot. Ended with 1 fatigue on him.

So, 2 attacks, 2 search tokens, 20 movement. Could have moved 3 more spaces if he had wanted.

  6. Brief background so all my questions have context:

I am overlord for my groups' first campaign, we are 10 months in and just finished the interlude. We played rumor quests from 3 H&M packs. I am using basic, have 2x Bloodrage, Bloodlust, Airborne, Call of the Ravens, Web Trap, and plan to get the second Web Trap, Curse of the Monkey God, and Uthuk Demon Trap, if possible, to finish out my deck. I have OL reward cards from CoD and OotO, I don't have TCtR, MoB, or the last 5 H&M packs. I am using Queen Ariad as agent with the Tangled Web plot deck.

Heroes are Elder Mok as Bard, Logan Lashley as Treasure Hunter, Trenloe the Strong as Knight, and Astarra as Runemaster. I didn't realize how elite this group was until the last two quests. i.e. one horrible turn in particular, Logan searched, killed 2 full health Crypt dragons in 1 shot each, and moved 20 spaces. No joke.

I won Intro, Siege of Skytower and 2 Rumors, Heroes have won 1 rumor and Archive of Arrizon, Calladen's Crossing, and From the Wreckage. They came into Act I final shopping phase with 600g, and bought everything they wanted to fill out their already well equipped sets.

    First about From the Wreckage:

When the ruse ends, a few different start of turn things come into play. If Eliza is adjacent to decoy at the start of OL turn, the ruse ends. At the start of the OL turn before the ruse ends, you can reinforce a Merriod. At the start of OL turn after the ruse ends, OL gains a fatigue. As I understand, since it was my turn, the golden rule is that I get to choose the order of these three events. First Merriods, then the ruse ends, then I gain a fatigue. Heroes complained so much, I dropped the Merriod, which I later lamented, as I barely eeked out 1 hero kill before they cleared the table. Does RAW allow the order that I preferred? Thanks for the help to clarify. I simply want to use this as an example to not forgo whatever advantage I may be allowed in later quests.

    OL tips in general:

Feel free to comment on any tips you have against the ridiculously hard hero line up that I am facing. I can't imagine getting any more wins until I can get Curse in my lineup to control Logan. Is my OL deck approach okay? Can it be improved? I have read all the general tips on here and BGG for OL strat, but anything specific against these heroes would be great. They likely have weaknesses of which I am not aware, having never played them myself.

One thing which I am considering: I just learned about the Bloodlust errata from 4 extra cards (for me) to 2 extra cards before this last quest. The heroes will allow me to cash it back in if I want as it is only half as good as it was. Is it still worth it for the 2 extra cards? It is a bit situational as I have such a hard time killing the heroes.

  7. The specific part of the rules in question states:

"While a hero or monster is carrying an apostate, it cannot perform a move action if it already performed a move action that turn."

I will be playing the overlord for this quest in a couple weeks. The monster traits are Mountain and Hot, and I am currently debating between Ynfernael Hulks and Volucrix Reavers. I am wondering if YH's Bloodrush (This monster suffers 1 heart and gains 5 movement points. Limit once per turn), or VR's Skirmish (This monster may move 3 spaces, then perform an attack) can be combined with a move action within the scope of the Special Rules.

To assist is answering my question, I would like the following answered as well:

    1) Are any actions that say "attack" considered attack actions, of which monsters may generally not perform two in a turn? i.e. Elemental regular attack, and Fire

    2) Can the same be said for a move action like Bloodrush, where a monster gaining movement points via an action outside of a regular move action would still be considered a move action?

    3) Would a skill like a Knight's Oath of Honor be considered a Move Action, an Attack Action, both or neither?

    Thank you in advance!

  8. I am new to the game and trying to soak it all in. I will be the OL for my 4 buddies soon to begin Heirs of Blood, and we have several expansions in play. Most of my questions have been answered by categorically reading every rule question on FFG and BGG forums, and accepting the insight of some obviously experienced players. If I am understanding this thread correctly, Zaltyre, you are agreeing with Scharpes that if the OL won Act 1 - Quest 3, he can potentially play a Rumor Quest card and immediately reap the reward (if available) by choosing to play the Interlude rather than the Rumor. I personally feel this doesn't align with the "spirit" of the rule, and would certainly argue against this in my own group. That being said, it seems like at least some, if not all, of the Rumor Quests that have an OL relic as a reward if they are left unplayed by the transition to Act II, specifically state that they may not be put into play if the Interlude is an available quest.

Be that as it may, I have a few related questions:

    1. When the campaign booklet designates that "the next available quest is ..." (for instance, in the Heirs of Blood campaign, after the second Act I quest, if the Heroes win the next available quest is Caladen's Crossing, whereas if the Overlord wins the next available quest is Rise of Urthko), is it impossible to choose to play a Rumor Quest at this point?

    2. It says in the rules that the Overlord may put Rumor cards into play during the campaign phase, assuming the card allows. Is it true that this isn't limited to campaign phases after Act I quests, but would also include after other Rumor Quests. I haven't read the rumor cards closely yet to see what kind of potential criteria exist.

    3. Is it possible to play 2 or 3 Rumor Quests in a row, assuming they are already in play, and it is not immediately preceding the Interlude?

    A theoretical campaign to explain:

Acolyte of Saradyn -> Heroes win -> OL plays Rumor 1 -> Heroes choose Siege of Skytower -> OL wins -> OL plays Rumor 2 -> OL chooses Archive of Arrizon -> Heroes win -> (Can heroes choose Rumor 1, or is Caladen's Crossing automatic?) -> OL plays Rumor 3 (can this be done, if Rumor 1 was just played?) (Can Rumor Quests 1, 2, and 3 potentially be played in a row given a "yes" to previous question?) -> Heroes win and select as many Rumors as possible back-to-back -> Heroes win Caladen's Crossing -> If 1 or more Rumors available, 1 is played, others are discarded (assuming they weren't all 3 played back-to-back) -> Heroes choose From the Wreckage (at this point, no more Rumor cards can enter play, only Advanced Quest cards persist to Act II, correct?) -> etc.

Edit: Original point is in reference to Scharpes' post, not OP.
