Oloh got a reaction from Cultiststeve in Runewars data files for BattleScribe Release (Army List building software)
Fixed it.  Restarted iPhone, deleted all data files and reinstalled BS and one of those things fixed the issue.  THanks!

    EDIT:

FFG has updated their page to include PDFs for Learn to Play and Rules Reference! Here's the link: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/runewars-the-miniatures-game/

I have thus removed my link below.

I'm currently uploading  the rulebook pics i took with my phone to Google Drive. I will post a link here soon so everyone can read it.

I will take down the link once FFG has theirs on the main page for download.

Oloh got a reaction from Bhelliom in Images, Icons, Fonts and Random Information
I am trying to put together a list of random imagery from the game together as a resource.  I'll keep adding as I create/come across these.

    Tray Formation Icons
These have been formatted to be stackable, with a 1 pixel inner and outer white border, no anti-alias to be easy for website use.  Included are all permitted formations for all known units.

    Solo:

    Two Tray:

    Four Tray:

    Six Tray Calvary:

    Six Tray Infantry:

    Nine Tray:

    Twelve Tray:

    Upgrade Icons
These are normalized for height at 20 pixels.  The Heroes seem to have two unique upgrade icons, but I can't find a good enough picture of them to photoshop it.

    Musician:

    Banner:

    Leader:

    Symbol:

    Siege:

    Armor:

    Fonts
The initial letter for all units seems to be a custom outlined version of the "Vinque" font, downloadable for free HERE.

Remainder of the letter unknown at this point.  If anyone has tips on the remainder of the letter or a "celticized" version of the Vinque font, let me know.

I think if you do the math on the $per percentage points of a full tournament army, you will find it's not terribly pricey compare to similar games.
Just need to get out of the collect them all mindset.

Unless they release a second core set Elves v Ulthak that those players can get started for the same.  Seems just as likely as any other scenario.

Oloh got a reaction from Hijodecain in Neoprene Mat (need advice)
Deep cuts mats are very good quality and the company is legit.  I ordered a 3x6 custom mud fields mat and started basing my terrain around the colors in it and have not been disappointed in the least.

Oloh got a reaction from flightmaster101 in Why I don't buy this game
In fact, I suspect that Runewars was FFG's response to GW pulling the license.  "Taking your ball and leaving?  Fine.  We will build our own ball and let's see who plays with it more."

Here are all of the possible combinations of orders for each of the Daqan units (without any upgrade cards). Enjoy, and speculate! I found some interesting and unique command combos here, some things I really didn't think about but really make sense and fit the unit style of play to make it unique.

Note: Remember you can always put in a dial with a wrong manuever to not have it modified. I didn't think it was necessary until I saw the Carrion Lancer dial, which has no white modifier, meaning that all of its Moves have to be a Charge to go speed 2. If you fail to make contact, you take Panic, so it makes sense to 'accidentally' screw up your second dial to avoid the panic... it makes no sense but its the only way to make a faster move with carrion lancers without charging.
Edit: Now with Waiqar! And pretty formatting! I don't think it really needs color coding, its already all matched by colors, but I can work on adding that in 3.0... post here if we get reveals of the dials for the new heroes and I will add them.
Edit: And now Latari! Still fixing some formatting issues...

Oloh got a reaction from Willange in Master Product & Promo List
Updated main post with Friday's news.  So far, everything is as it was predicted EXCEPT one major change.  The Heroes, Infantry, and Large Bases all have the same Q2 2017 release date as the previously announced Archers/Calvary / Command Units.  This could potentially mean that we are going to see an accelerated release schedule to get the first 4 armies featured in the launch poster out this year.  I think that would be very aggressive, but it is possible that we see something like an Elves and Uthuk Starter in Q3, with Wave 1s similar to the Daqan/Waiquar Wave 1s in Q4.  That would be a pleasant surprise (and very aggressive commitment on FFGs part).
If it does, indeed, happen that way, I don't think anyone could reasonably question FFG's commitment to this product's launch.  Bad news is we really don't have any new real leads on anything other than Latari and Uthuk are coming b/c of the poster.  We might be pretty dry on new announcements until GenCon.

Oloh got a reaction from Disgruntled in Who else is probably starting with two Core Sets?
I want to add a couple thoughts to the multiple core set crowd.  First, in full disclosure, I pre-ordered 3 cores from my FLGS, so I have already made my decision, but I wanted to point out a few thoughts that might make you say "hmm."

Three sets gives you a max tray version of Reanimate Archers and Reanimates.  It gives you either a full tray of Spearmen (with 3 trays left over) or 2 separate six tray units and a six tray unit of cavalry.  The point is that all of the units will be very "usable" and will *most likely* (see next point) provide value down the road if you intend on using Daqan or Undead as one of your main armies.  The expansions will allow you further flexibility, but building the same number of units using expansions will definitely cost you a lot more.
If the *most likely* above doesn't come true, and the meta develops such that you never really see "game" value out of having the full regiments of figures above, you can still get "hobby" value from the figures you don't use, if you are in to that kind of thing.  For example:
For the Waiqar, you can cut the skeletons in half and have them coming out of the ground, or make them missing an arm, or substituting different weapons to give your army more variety other than the 4 basic sculpts that come with the core.  Additionally, one awesome touch is to have some of your skeletons painted in tattered blue and gold armor, with Daqan shields and fill your ranks with them when you have a necromancer in your unit raising undead.  It adds a whole level of street cred to your army :). For Daqan, you can paint some figures that you might not use every day in the colors of different Baronies, so that you can have more variety to the look of your army that might fit whatever campaign or theme you have.  Taking a group of Oathsworn Cavalry that you might have laying in a Ziplock bag somewhere and painting them all with Lord Hawthorne's symbol on white horses, you could create an elite "lucky" force that you only break out if Lord Hawthorne is in your group. Finally, for both armies, one of the things that excites me about the card based upgrade system is that you can model the upgrades.  I am already thinking of what different weapon color scheme I can think of to make my "Tempered Steel" upgraded units.  Perhaps the tempered steel has a slight blueish hue that is much more bright (or dark).  Perhaps a Rune Golem that used as an upgrade (and therefor doesn't actually attack itself) carries 1 banner in each of its arms to inspire the troops around it to give the benefits it has. The same is true for the heroes.  While Kari Wraithstalker might be used as plain old Kari in your games, having an unpainted version in your drawer ready to be painted up with differently so that the amazing "Bloodthirsty Blade" upgrade that came out with Wave 4 and works perfect with Kari can be perfectly represented with, well....a bloody blade. The above is not meant to advocate for buying more core sets (or anything for that matter), but for me part of the joy of a miniature game is really taking it to the next level in terms of lore and hobbycraft.  Once you start treating your army as a creative outlet to entertain both yourself and the people you play against, you get much more joy out of the game, such that it really transitions to a hobby.
Anyway, just wanted to add my two cents to the equation and share my thoughts in the hope it might inspire some folks to think a little differently about their toy soldiers.

This is why we need the lore book!  I'm sure the different baronies will have different heraldry and colors.  It would be really nice to have some reference point for painting up your army!

Oloh got a reaction from MegaSilver in Runic Maths
I took a crack at some math relating to the rune mechanic and figured that I would share some information.  The first chart below shows every combination available from the 5 runes cast at the start of each turn, and the percentage chance of getting that exact combination.  Using the table below, you can calculate the likelihood that you will have an appropriate "mana curve" for the abilities you take and can determinate the exact percentage you will have of getting what you need each round.

The second table shows you the min / max of each rune, and the percentage chance you will get a specific number, with the percentage chance you will get "at least" a specific number.

The TLDR version is that there is a 62.5% chance each round that you will get one of each color of runes.  That probably means that most builds will have a way to "dump" each color of runes so the army isn't wasting resources.

    Just wanted to share.

Maybe I am wrong, but I was under the impression that if you used a character or unit as an upgrade, you lost all of its base stats and only had the stats listed on the upgrade card (i.e. no dial for the Rune Golem when used as FLRG).  I assumed that the health and armor listed on the upgrade card were for purposes of getting Aimed at.

To support MSU being effective in RuneWars, the numbers that I have ran so far shows Reanimate Archers at a minimum 2 trays + Rank Discipline (22pts) being one of the most cost effective units in the game.  Baseline, without any rerolls, they have over a 37% chance each to damage a 4 armor (the highest in the game so far) target at 5 range.  They will take out 2-3 cavalry a turn each.
I see Rank Discipline as being one of those annoying "need 6 copies" type of cards, at least early on.  Why?  Reanimates get access to Rank Discipline at 2 tray and Carrion Lancers get access to it at 1 tray. For archers, getting a full reroll +8 additional wounds (but no extra damage) costs 14 additional points.  You can get the full reroll for 4 points from Rank Discipline.    Guaranteeing a full reroll on a MSU min unit is really good and offsets the consistency weakness.
I'm interested in the rest of your thoughts, but after running a bunch of different list scenarios, I see Waiqar as MSU based largely around Reanimate Archers and Carrion Lancers.  I see Daqan being a Death Star army around a pimped out Kari Wraithstalker with heartseeker and LOS blockers.

To me, the "fun" is driving to work, thinking about whether to use upgrade X or Y, how to counter Z meta list, and scouring the internet for the clues on what is to come.  Communities like these, that speculate and complain and fanboy it up are part of the fun.  Communities like the tournament scene where you can buy a guy you never met a beer and talk about his army.
In short, this game, like all others, will be made not by the contents of the box but by the community that supports it.  So, post on!
