Why do the other factions get all the cool new abilities but the rebels are stuck with crappy upgrades you have to combine with another crappy upgrade to make them useable? I like the U-wing as a ship but the crew are beyond disappointing. Just this wave the Imperials get Kylo and Hux. Scum gets an action tractor beam that will screw any small ship. Rebels get what? A slightly better Intel agent? A slightly worse gunner? A crew form of LRS? I know Rebels have Regen and all but people complain about that so much I have stopped using it casually. I was really hoping this expansion would offer something to replace Regen so we don't have to rely on it to be competitive.

I think in discussing the cards some people are missing the biggest draw of the expansion...the ship! It is a cheap crew carrier with a decent dial and good upgrade slots. This is something the Rebels have been lacking for a long time. Many rebel crew are designed to be built into combos but until now that was not possible because the ship would have been to expensive. Some of the new upgrades may seem lackluster but more options are never bad.

[CCL fake article] Armed and Dangerous, the new Rebel ace pack
MenaceNsobriety replied to Rakaydos's topic in X-Wing
Might want to add to a minimum of zero to the weapons platform. Otherwise you can get a b-wing down to 16 points. -
The Lightened Frame or Lightweight Frame mod should help the Tie/sf as much as the striker so don't get to down on them. I think the SF was designed with that mod in mind. Also backdraft is a BEAST if you have something more threatening to keep the heat off him.

I would also say the Jumpmaster. Manaroo is probably the most versatile pilot in the game. It also comes with Mindlink which is one of the most effective upgrades if played correctly. Dengar crew and pilot are both excellent as well. If you can pickup a 3rd mindlink I would tell you to get 2 protectorates instead of MW. In the end it comes down to what you want to play so have fun with whatever you get!

So far the pattern has always been Rebel, Imperial then Scum. We got the Tie, Batshuttle then Space tractor so it should start over with the U-wing

It's not the dials, it's the templates. I've done a bit of experimentation, and there's almost a way to fix it with the standard tools, but it's tough to describe. I know. I have done the same and keep coming back to the conclusion that they should have separate sets of templates. I know it is more stuff to setup but I think it would be much better that way.

The only ship I don`t own is a scyk. trying to talk myself into it.
MenaceNsobriety replied to Velvetelvis's topic in X-Wing
I just picked a scyk up myself because it was the last ship I needed as well. It is cheap and pretty fun to use so I am very happy I did. -
I am in the camp of accuracy and damage dice being separated. This would give so much more room to design weapons. I also think ships should all have Armada style keywords that give bonuses when attacking the things they are built to kill. Bomber keyword gets a bonus against freighter/patrol(large ships). Fighter keyword gets a bonus against bombers. Freighter/patrol gets a bonus against fighters. This would really help keep ships to the role they are intended for. Oh and please fix the dials for large and small ships. No large ship should be able to outmaneuver a fighter. Watch the movies Ties buzzed around the Falcon like it was standing still!

So is it a secondary weapon attack or a primary? The way you have it makes it a primary weapon attack but with a secondary range restriction. It would probably be better if you just put a 2 attack secondary then added " you may roll additional attack dice equal to your primary attack value up to 4." That way abilities that trigger off primary attacks don't work as well as no range bonus.

I am a big fan of the zero point upgrades as well and would love to see more of them. As for them making the game more complicated no one is forcing new players to use most of them aside from the ARC title type. New players should be encouraged to use upgrades so that they get accustomed to the timing and remembering additional effects but most are not mandatory to make a ship work.

I think the stress rules are fine as is. If they were to change I would hope it is just to make it so that any maneuver that rotates your ship becomes red while stressed. That way even if a ship has a white K or Sloop they can't do it while stressed. That only effects a couple of ships but makes stress at least matter a little to everyone.
-
I think a tractor beam token should have made your next maneuver a white 0. Locking a ship in place would be interesting. Probably to near an ion token but you could keep the negative agility bit.

Just for kicks give new Chewie the scavenger crane and some homing missiles. They kill a Z and you get to attack and flip your missiles back up. Not competitive but probably fun.

Which Pilot Do You Hate Most? (another poll)
MenaceNsobriety replied to TitaniumChopstick's topic in X-Wing
Biggs "shoot me" Darklighter. He is the reason Rebels cannot have nice things for their awesome X-Wings. He is also really mandatory for about 80% of competitive Rebel lists without regen. Using him makes me feel cheap but sometimes you don't have a choice. I was going to say Luke Skywalker because he is just not very good but Biggs made me target him. -
This made me laugh so hard. I played Magic for years and there was a guy that went to all the tournaments in the area who ALWAYS smelled. It was so bad I started calling him Stinky Earl...then so did everyone else. You would think he would shower after getting that nickname but no.

I will also add that This is a GAME! If a TO, judge or Marshall makes a ruling against your opponent that seems harsh or you know it to be incorrect then you need to say something. Judging is hard and both players have a responsibility to make sure the rules are followed. Even if you have to call out something that could be costly to yourself. If you let something happen you know to be wrong and win because of it that is just as bad as cheating.

I have been running Wired on Rey for the same reason and it is working splendidly.

Milwaukee Regional today, updates as mood permits.
MenaceNsobriety replied to Velvetelvis's topic in X-Wing
I just read all the posts about this DQ(or round loss) deal and my first thought was "What did his current opponent say?" I have played in many tournaments for many different games and I have been in similar situations. I personally would have asked the young man to finish the game with the lists we started with. If I lost and the TO wanted to give him a round loss I would forfeit so he moves on. I am a very competitive person but at the same time I want everyone involved to have a good time. This was a simple honest mistake that could have been handled between the players. If he misrepresented his list that's a different story but I does not appear to be the case. I know judging large events are hard as I was a judge at gencon for other games. I always tried to let the players have a say in the ruling if it came down to a judgment call. -
Kylo Ren, and why i am pretty worried about him?
MenaceNsobriety replied to ForceM's topic in X-Wing
Imperial and scum aces typically have a high enough agility to at least have a chance to dodge the crit. Rebel aces tend to be ships that just take the hit and regen later so Kylo really is death. I play every faction but lean towards rebels and if Kylo works like we think he will then rebels will be screwed. -
The main problem I have found with Nien is that in order to use his ability you have to be range one of something. T-70's at range 1 of just about anything melt faster than a snowball in the desert.

I can't like the OP post enough times. People scream for major changes to this and that all the time but after the next wave comes out it normally dies down. It's almost like the designers know what they are doing and give us tools to fight the bogeymen that people complain about!

Regen is the only way a lot of rebel ships are able to earn back their points. If you take that way or make it less effective then half the ships in the Rebel arsenal would be borderline unplayable. Norra with no regen is a waste of 35+ points. The same could be said of Poe, Corran, Miranda and many others. Limited or no regen would mean just about every Rebel list starts 25 points down because Biggs becomes mandatory.

Does anyone else think that TLT should be the first double unique upgrade? FAQ two unique dots on there so no more than two TLTs can be played at a time. I don't mind it so much on one or two ships but spammed it is just boring.
-
I have not found it to be much of a problem. As long as one ship gets an action you will still have above average efficiency because of Manaroo. If you don't use Manaroo when you play mindlink then I don't know what to tell you because she is the staple of every ML list I have ever played.
