Most of the wave 10 talk has been about the Upsilon and Kylo. Probably rightfully so but I wanted to see what everyone has thought of the overlooked small ships. So far my experience with the Quadjumper is that it dies...quickly. If you see a Quad and you are flying small ships then you have to kill it before it starts tossing you on rocks. I still hold out hope that it can be useful but so far have not found a working list. Sabine's TIE has a bunch of different ways you can build it and can fill many different roles. Rex is great as cheap annoying filler and Ahsoka can be that budget ship rebels have been missing for so long. My personal favorite however is Kamakazi Sabine with Masterpiece, BoShek and EMP. Add EPT to taste. She can bump just about any ship within range 3 and if they have not activated you get to BoShek them. It is great fun playing cat and mouse with your opponent when they have 2+ ships in range. They have to consider who you will go after or if you even use BoShek at all. What are your thoughts and builds for these ships?

First impressions of Kylo Ren(pilot & crew)
MenaceNsobriety replied to MenaceNsobriety's topic in X-Wing
Hux is pretty fun. On Major Striden he is almost like having mindlink on all your ships. Not sure how competitive he will be but fun to use every now and then. -
I hope TS lets you spend the lock to reroll otherwise it is terribly overcosted. I'm not sold on it actually working that way though because "game effect" has never before been defined.

No it's only pilot crits. Any 2 hull ship is in trouble though because your shields are useless -
If you want a really fun ship to fly try Sabine Wren(TIE) with sabine's masterpiece, BoShek and EMP device. For 20 points you can ram pretty much any higher pilot skill ship and make them change their maneuver! It is great fun when you get near 2-3 opposing ships because your opponent doesn't know who will get BoSheked. It will never be super competitive but oh boy is it a good time.

First impressions of Kylo Ren(pilot & crew)
MenaceNsobriety replied to MenaceNsobriety's topic in X-Wing
That is exactly what I kept coming back to last night when talking to my opponent after the game. Did they even play test the card at all? It took us one game to see how stupid IWSYTDS is but they released it anyway. The designers must really dislike the trend toward 2 ship lists. -

Fair enough. You are right. That is the next logical step in the conversation. I believe Kylo will have a big impact on the meta at first then people will start bringing lists to counter him. After that he will probably settle in to the pock-paper-scissors element of the game. I can't really understand why they would make a something that if you don't bring counters for you auto lose. That is not good for list diversity. They clearly stated that the U-boat nerf was because it severely limited what you could play and have a chance to win. Then they release a card that will make most of the ships brought back in unplayable again unless built with a specific upgrade. -

Most on the posts here are missing the point of what I originally stated. Kylo may have an impact in the meta or he may not. Time will tell on that one. The point of the original post was how massively unenjoyable games against him are if you don't have something setup to counter him. It doesn't even feel like the same game because basically none of your choices matter. -
I doubt FFG will ever make anything like that simply because the amount of combinations that would have to be tested before any new Tech upgrades were released. They would have to make sure any new tech did not overpower any of the 100's of older pilots, like Biggs or Defenders, and that limits design space considerably.

First impressions of Kylo Ren(pilot & crew)

Since Kylo's ship does not have to be the one to deal the crit the don't get shot argument goes out the window. If even one ship has a shot on you and Palpatine is around you are eating that crit unless you have X/7 levels of defense. Most 1 and 2 agility ships don't have a chance against him. Yes fun is subjective but why even sit down to play a game when you know you have no chance to win unless you packed the few counters? -

My issue with Kylo is more about the experience of playing against it than the power. It is just not at all fun unless you have one of the 4 things that counter it. Did they not play test the condition and ask if the players had a good time? I bet they didn't because I know I had 0 fun against it. -

That is exactly right. Kylo pilot is a great Palp carrier because if you try to kill him first you are screwed by IWSYTDS but if you leave him alone Palp still screws you! -
I know a great many people were saying the sky is falling when it comes to Kylo. I thought he would be good but not insanely meta defining. Boy was I wrong about that one. I played a few games against Kylo crew on RAC with gunner and Hotcop then a couple against Kylo pilot. These were the least fun games that I have ever played. I played Rebels and wanted to try to beat Kylo without running Determination. It was awful. Afterwards my opponent agreed with me that I Will Show You the Dark Side is the most broken card we have ever seen. Yes it has a hard counter in Determination but is it good game design to make that the ONLY viable EPT? What I struggle with is who in the hell thought this condition was a good idea? If you haven't played against it yet don't tell me I'm overreacting because you don't know how much it sucks to have hand picked crits screw you over when you can't do a **** thing about it. People like to complain about Palp but the real Dark Side is coming to a table near you soon. End Rant.

I wouldn't be mad if they included all of the main rogue squadron pilots in the game even if that meant 10 new X-wing pilots. I loved that book series and would be thrilled to get more characters drawn from it. More X-wing on the table would be great since I rarely see any outside of Biggs.

Well it won't let me upload pics because the file is to big. UPS dial was in the article but it's the Ghost dial with 0 replacing the 5k. PS 5 quad is Sarco Plank 18 points- when defending, instead of using your agility value, you may roll a number of defense dice equal to the speed of the maneuver you executed this round.
-
K's are VERY much about finesse because it takes considerable skill to properly judge those bombing runs. Soontir struggles right now because there is a lot of auto damage, that bypasses defense dice and tokens, in the meta ATM.
-
Not really. If you are going to a tournament and expect to see K-Wing bombers or RAC with Vader than Soontir will not do well. He is currently out of the meta because he can't arc dodge bombs when they land in his grill and Loaded out K's with Sabine are very popular right now. Brobots can still be viable if flown correctly but they also can struggle with bombs. I believe they are not played as much anymore because people are sick of playing them not because they are not good. They are also a high variance list because of their reliance on green dice. People are tired of those little green assholes screwing them at the worst possible moment.

Pretty much everything was in the preview articles but if there is something you want a picture of I will load that. I got mine online and they shipped early for some reason(not complaining at all).

If TS lets you spend the target lock with another ship to reroll dice then it is much better that I initially thought. When I first read the card I assumed it would not work that way so I thought it was way overcosted. If it does work to reroll the 3 point cost looks much better.
-
The Upsilon is GREAT! I typically play rebels so I'm very used to the Ghost and U-Wing dial and the Upsilon dial is not much different. I never had a problem clearing the stress but keeping arc on something is a little difficult since most ships do not want to joust the UPS.

I played my first game using General Hux last night. I was very imperessed with him. Everyone is talking about Kylo crew and I think he will be strong but Hux is almost like a crew version of Attani Mindlink. The range restriction limits him somewhat compared to Mindlink but even with that he was very powerful. When combined with Major Striden's pilot ability the range restriction is not that bad. With Hux and Systems Officer on Striden you can give out three focus tokens and a target lock to any ship at range 1-3. Hux will definitely have at least some impact on the meta. Oh and the upsilon is the best ship in the wave hands down IMO.

Has anyone tested "I'll show you the dark side" so far?
MenaceNsobriety replied to Sunitsa's topic in X-Wing
My issue with Kylo is how limiting he will be to list choices. Yes there are builds that make him pretty ineffective but there are far more ships that are boned hard by him. If Kylo becomes a thing at high level events(I think he will) then everyone will have to bring ships that have a chance to dodge RACs attacks. That limits each faction to just a few ships or auto including Determination. Rebels are hurt the worst because many of their popular ships at the moment have no EPT slot. Scum also suffers just from the fact they have to take an EPT that is not mindlink. -
I'm going to start at one of each but may end up with two space tractors and teen angst TIE fighters.

Neither Owen or Beru were related to Shmi. Owen was Lars son from previous marriage. Edit: should have updated to page after watching the video above.

My advice for playing Strikers is don't get caught up trying to turn in the middle of a furball. Use the advantage of your ailerons to zoom out of range then turn around for another pass. When facing non-turret ships you can catch them chasing one target while the rest of your strikers strafe the enemy from multiple sides and out of arc. I have found straight jousting eliminates the maneuverability that is the only advantage the Strikers have over most ships.
