kazuki85 reacted to Bryabz in Daniela Reyes - New Investigator
I just saw a post on Facebook from Chaosium Inc. about the new expansion which included a picture of the gamebox with some added stuff on the bottom. One of the things added is a new investigator named Daniela Reyes. If you zoom the picture in, you can read her skills at least. Her profession is The Mechanic and her skills are:

Action: You may spend any number of Resources to gain an equal number of Clues.

Once per round, after you perform an Acquire Assets action or a Rest action, you may gain 1 Resource.

So Resources must be a new thing coming too but I found it interesting so I thought I should share.  If you look up Chaosium Inc. on Facebook you can see it too.

This doesn't mean either that the new and the "better" (in your opinion) makes it a classic.
EH has a ton of problems. Now I get we're on the EH board, and there's a ton of fans of the game. But being fans doesn't mean necessarily being unable to understand the flaws in the game. First of all, it has a repetitive structure. Mysteries come in three types only once they are removed from flavor fluff (kill epic monster; gain clues to put on mystery equals to half the investigators in play; gain something equal to the number of investigators in play). It has a series of embarassing cards that were not properly balanced (the mystery requiring Hydra to be killed for example, or the rumor spawning the twins of Cthulhu in two different oceans: these are suicidal to solve if you run solo or 2p and have bad luck, and you're able to stomp through them if you play full 8p), and a series of cards that are just luck-based. Going blindly in the OWs is stupid because you can't plan in any way any strategy to deal with what lies beyond, and the number of OWs in play could accelerate easily game end. Not all options to encounter defeated investigators allow for doom recovery, so, you just risk wasting time. Some conditions are badly designed, chain, and in the end could transform one of your characters in a cripple that sucks the entire game trying to be killed to have some fun. Some other situations are badly designed because they allow for too much of a power creep. Some encounters are simply hilarious (we only miss the Pope casting a Fireball at Azathoth. C'mon).
So, technically, for me, from a game-designing perspective, the game lacks of fantasy (see repetiveness of the mysteries), and has a huge series of problems that are becoming more and more relevant with each passing expansion. And this doesn't make the game a classic, it just make the game a product that's been very well marketed and has found an audience, which is a completely different kettle of fish (just to make an example, "Catcher in the rhye" will always be a classic even if mr. Martin's GoT sells a lot more. Martin's a talented narrator, but he's not making literature).
Please use some perspective when looking at games. Or just go with "I'm a fanboy", which is fine, but doesn't mean you're right.

    Hi Runebound 3rd ed. fans!

I am looking for playtesters for an unofficial scenario I made for Runebound 3.
The scenario is set during the same time as Fall of the Darkstar but instead of focusing on PvP, it is cooperative.
Here's what it has... I'll try to list these without any spoilers so the surprises in there have a bigger effect:
2-4 player fully cooperative scenario with 2-4 bosses. Can also play solo with 1 boss 12 story cards, 4 villains, 8 new cards for the "new" mechanic (see next one) one mechanic from Runebound 2nd edition which many would like to see in 3rd edition 6 new combat tokens for villains and 3 other tokens 3 variants for harder or more versatile gameplay cards with full artwork and rulebook that can be printed in the same quality as the original cards (WIP, should take approx. 2 more weeks to finish) If anyone is interested in playtesting now (word document with text, print it, cut it up, and play) send me a message.
If you are only interested in the full artwork version with cards and all, it is work in progress, will take about a week or two to finish. Of course, there is no point in printing the cards with top quality before they reach their final form after a fair amount of playtesting.

Thanks in advance for anyone who volunteers.

kazuki85 got a reaction from Devon Greatwolf in Just got the game and have a few questions about ships in combat.
Hi fellow Zogwort, fellow Ork! I'm here to help!

    1. Yes exactly the same combat as in ground. Definitely not orbital strike, OS only happens when there is no contested ground and battle occured in an advance order movement, and OS is only 1 single attack without any cards.

    2. Ships would not get involved in any land fight and vice versa, so no assigning damage to ships from land.

    3. Ship battles and ground battles are seperate! You cannot use your Ork boyz to shoot at the opponents ship (even though its tempting to do so, but not in this game!). In a single advance order, you can only resolve a single contested battle.

That means if you want to occupy a planet/world, BUT the opponent has a single ship on the void blocking the route to the planet/world, you HAVE to initiate 2 advances : 1st to send your ship over and fight his ship on the void (and you have to win of course) and 2nd advance to move your ground guys to the said planet.

Hope that helps! OrderofGamers.com has a nicely written summary of all the rules in FS, you can get it from here and print it out to refer to the subtle rule wordings easier : http://www.orderofgamers.com/downloads/ForbiddenStars_v1.1.pdf
