I don’t think anyone is complaining about ‘fast enough for my liking’ more ‘virtually no releases/real communication in a year’. There’s a big difference.

Lets be real here, announcing the biggest model they have ever produced then not hyping it to the rafters is a questionable business decision at the very least. To say nothing of a more general release for both factions.

Just curious, what if they were waiting till worlds to release the SSD? This is all hypothetical, mind you, but I could see FFG not wanting to make that drastic of a change to the meta right before worlds. I can imagine a lot of folks being up in arms over that, especially if they don't get their pre order in time.

Due to the fact that they clash with accuracies, offer your opponent choices and don’t make chip damage stick, they’re frankly outclassed by XI7s.

Compared in a vacuum, I'd agree. However, I have this bad habit of going rogue ...

When is the "right" time to use HTT?

I like the concept but i can't really see how it's meant to play out

The basic idea is fly the VSDs in formation like one would normally do with Nebs, feed them tokens with the flotillas, and blow up whatever gets close. The ISD either does flanker duty, or comes across the board as an anvil to the VSDs hammer depending on the objective and the opposing fleet.

I would go for QBTs, E-Rax and SFOs on the VSDs. It will free up enough points for ECM on the flagship.

Ironically, the previous iteration of this list had ECM on the flagship and it always felt like a waste of points.

I'll keep that VSD load out in mind, that might be just what I'm looking for in a different fleet.

  5. Empire

    388/400

    Advanced Gunnery

    Hyperspace Assault

    Solar Corona

ISD 2: Admiral Motti, Strategic Adviser, XI7 Turbolasers, Leading Shots

Victory 1: Assault Concussion Missiles, Heavy Turbolaser Turrets, Ordnance Experts

Victory 1: Assault Concussion Missiles, Heavy Turbolaser Turrets, Ordnance Experts

    Gozanti Cruisers: Comms Net

    Gozanti Cruisers: Comms Net

Took this list to the regional yesterday at FFG HQ for a test flight. Four epic bloodbaths later I was in 16th with 22 points and a 3 - 1 record.

Round 1 vs Roger's Sloane list: Played his Advanced Gunnery for a 7-4 win.

Round 2 vs Andy's Sloane list: Played his Most Wanted for a 7-4 win.

Round 3 vs Ted's Jerjerrod list: He won the dice off for first player (same bid) and we played my Solar Corona. Lots of dancing ships later I had another 7-4 win.

Round 4 vs Nick's Vader list: Played his Most Wanted and got blown out by some impressive Vader rerolls. I didn't get his ISD whittled down fast enough to try and close the points gap (who goes to Speed 0 for two straight turns to stay out of engagement? Mad props for the tactic.) and he got the 10-1.

Sorry for lack of turn by turn details, I didn't think to take notes until after round 2.

I love the ordnance concept, but it might pay off to leave a little more room for squadrons.  It’s an awkward investment when you bring a smaller group of squads to push and the Quasar sits around being shot if they die.

That's a great summation of where I'm currently at with this. I'm not gonna lie, this is a delightful brainteaser to try and strike that balance ... even with Demo being the only thing "fully kitted".

And even if the squads die, the Quasar still has a role ....

sounds like you enjoy european produced WW2 movies with more moral ambiguity more than american produced.

    ( me too)

I've found my preferences trending that way as well with WW2 movies, especially as I've spent more time actually studying parts of the conflict.

I've not actually seen Solo yet, but that has more to do with not going to theaters much anymore than with anything else. I'll have plenty of opportunity when it hits DVD/Blu ray.

  8. My proposal:

    Basic Imps

    Faction: Galactic Empire
    Points: 390/400

    Commander: Admiral Motti

    Assault Objective: Advanced Gunnery
    Defense Objective: Hyperspace Assault
    Navigation Objective: Solar Corona

    [ flagship ] Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer (120 points)
    -  Admiral Motti  ( 24  points)
    Avenger  ( 5  points)
    -  Early Warning System  ( 7  points)
    -  X17 Turbolasers  ( 6  points)
    -  Leading Shots  ( 4  points)
    = 166 total ship cost

Victory I-Class Star Destroyer (73 points)
    -  Ordnance Experts  ( 4  points)
    -  Heavy Turbolaser Turrets  ( 6  points)
    -  Assault Concussion Missiles  ( 7  points)
    = 90 total ship cost

Victory I-Class Star Destroyer (73 points)
    -  Ordnance Experts  ( 4  points)
    -  Heavy Turbolaser Turrets  ( 6  points)
    -  Assault Concussion Missiles  ( 7  points)
    = 90 total ship cost

    4 TIE Interceptor Squadrons ( 44 points)
    = 44 total squadron cost

  9. I just finished reading Thrawn, and I thought it was a let down as well - even without taking the original series into consideration. My complaint is that the material from other sources, like Rebels, X-Wing, and Armada, (characters, spacecraft, etc.) that were included seemed like the reference was shoehorned in for the sake of making the reference - I can understand this happening in a childrens book, but it really is inexcusable in anything of a higher reading level.

If it was just a Space Game (TM) I probably wouldn't be interested. But if it had some other IP I loved, then I'm sure I would be in.

In fact, there are certain SciFi universes that I know would have brought in even more of my friends.

Nice Minbari Cruiser. The Babylon 5 IP with the Armada ruleset would entice me to buy in sooooo much heavier than Star Wars did for Armada. SW theme was kinda irrelevant to me when I got into Armada, it was solely the rules and gameplay mechanics that sucked me in.

Reads like a piece of Russian literature.

Ha! Up until this point I never thought there was such a thing as too much Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky. :)

    Let me reword that ...

I have 7 Neb B (two of which came from core sets) and have never used more than 4. I recently thought getting a third Interdictor was a good idea, but haven't come up with a fleet composition that suits my play style.

    Better? :D
