garciaj113 reacted to Xiervak in Ion guns: are they really worth it?
My biggest issue with Ion guns are that they are outranged by their natural enemy, the AT-ST, whose main gun is range 4. Having that sort of firepower bear down on your units whilst you attempt to get within range to fire your ion guns results in far too many casualties for the tactic of adding ion guns to 1-3 units. It's just not sustainable in my view.  For 32 points per upgrade, you could take 3 Z-6s and mow down enemy troopers, who are usually the only unit capable of capturing objectives.
If Ions have been working for you, power to you. I just don't see them as a viable anti-vehicle weapon and certainly not worthy of their price tag.
    Thoughts?

Here is how I see it, I'm against the adding the adding of the prequels and sequels, because I just feel it kills the thematic of the game. But if I had to choose between the two, it would have to be prequels. The sequels adds almost nothing, its basically repainted rebels and empire, the rebellion literally changed their color from red to blue and the empire went from pseudo-fascists to full on fascist. The units would literally be the same, with the exception of the named characters of which I care for none of them, except for Poe and Finn. The prequels at least gives some variety, clones and droids are very different from the rebels and empire and could provide cool and unique units that are not just reskins or slapping on new paint jobs, in addition I am quite fond of a lot of the prequel characters: General Kenobi, Grevious, Count Dooku, Mace Windu, Jango Fett, the list goes on and on.
Basically the First Order and Resistance would add nothing new to the table, except some reskinned units, while the Republic and Separatists would definitely feel unique and bring something. Although I am against these factions being introduced into the game, I would be a lot more unhappy if the sequels were implemented

Except, of course, the rule prohibiting the use of ranged attacks while in melee.

Note that engagement itself has nothing to do with what weapons you can select, only that you are in a melee, and you are in a melee when you're touching an opposing unit, period.

garciaj113 got a reaction from buckero0 in Are stormtroopers worth the points?
I think people are underestimating the efficiency of a DLT, the DLT troopers is the most point efficient thing in the game. The DLT has a range of 1-4, Impact 1, and rolls 2 red die, it tears things apart. Also a squad of 5 stormies avgs 1.875 dmg, throw in the DLT for an additional 1.75, making the avg dmg 3.625 compared to the Rebels 5 troopers producing 2.5 (for 5 troopers) plus 1.5 (from the z-6) bringing it up to 4, so you avg .375 less damage. Now the stormies will on avg save 2 of the 4 (50% block rate) making total damage taken 2, while the rebels would save (33.33% block rate) around 1.19625 taking around 2.4 damage. Stormtroopers on average win

I believe for attacking each individual trooper declares what weapon they are attacking with, therefore if attacking an enemy vehicle with impact grenades each individual trooper would be rolling a black die with impact 1. The result is being if you have 5 troopers and a HH-12 trooper, you would roll 6 black die with impact 6 (the HH-12 would not be using the rocket launcher since it is range 2-4)

So, at some point, I vaguely remember that the devs said if we all wanted something, we should make noise about it.  If I'm wrong, well, it worked for the gunboat anyways.
Since I'm stuck home NYE with a cold, this is the only horn I'm going to get to blow.
So, who wants more Epic??  Do you just want more Huge ships?  Missions??  Smaller ships that are Epic only??  Actions that are Epic only (like maybe Boarding Actions)??  Could we even just ask for an FAQ???!!!
I see a lot of posts by people claiming Epic was the most fun they ever had playing XWM.  Are you one of them?
I SAY WE DEMAND MORE OF IT!!

I hoestly really, really like Kylo's progression throughout this movie, he a actually becomes a cool character. Rey is still incredibly boring saday. Rose almost single handedly manages to ruin the movie for me, she is the most forced character I have ever seen, she contribites nothing to the plot and ruins Finn's scenes. I get that they wanted to have female characters present throughout the entire movie, but man Rose really killed the movie for me. Luke was great, the praetorian guard scene was surprisely good, and the new Lando was awesome.  Leia is extremely meh and is honestly outshone by the general who takes over when she goes unconscious. Also Ackbaar dies da **** is up with that
Basically it is a great movie completely held back by annoying pointless characters forced in for diversity's sake

garciaj113 reacted to Magnus Grendel in Predator vs. PTL vs. Expertise
Broadly, the three cards are very similar, but each has its own advantages and disadvantages:

Predator gives you a partial reroll (improved to what's near enough a full reroll against low PS generics, but let's be brutally honest, given the PS limit excludes Scarif Defenders, Black Squadron Pilots, Green Squadron Pilots and Contracted Scouts......it's not going to come up very often).
    Pro:
Absolutely no prerequisites. Works when stressed and doesn't restrict your dial in the slightest. Because it's 'when attacking' it supports multiple attacks (like a Twin Laser Turret or Gunner) well. Allows rerolls on ships without the target lock action (such as the Attack Shuttle or TIE striker) for lovely double-modified shots. Con:
It's only a 1-die reroll. On a 2-dice attack, you won't meaningfully notice the difference. On a 3-dice, it's probably 'good enough', but on a 4-dice or 5-dice attack you'll find yourself wishing you had a 'real' target lock on a fairly regular basis. Ideal use: 3 attack die ships that don't want to be restricted on their dials, and either have multiple attacks or don't have the ability to reroll dice of their own accord (Kavil, Duchess)
Push The Limit adds an action (generally a focus) that you wouldn't have had because you did 'something else' for your action. More importantly, you can use that action for other things
    Pro:
It's a full modification token, so if you have a big gun (or a range 1 shot) you get the full benefit. If generating a target lock, you can use it to fire Attack: Target Lock secondary weapons You can 'trade' the focus for something else (boost/barrel roll) or use the action to turtle up behind double-modified green dice instead. Con:
Stress. Unless you have the means to manage the stress - generally either (1) a green hard turn, (2) a turret or extra arc, or (3) some ability to remove or ignore stress, you want to steer clear of this one. You can only spend a focus or target lock offensively once, which may be a shame if you have two attacks. It gives you a free action from your action bar. So unless you could have done the action anyway, it doesn't give you access to it. Intensity gets a lot of credit on in part because it gives an X-wing or TIE/sf the ability to generate evade tokens. Ideal use: Ships with a really good green dial, a good action bar and/or the ability to carry secondary weapons (Soontir Fel, Jake Farrel)
Expertise is essentially permenant offensive focus if not stressed.
    Pro:
It's a full modification, which is good for 3-dice and 4-dice attacks Because it's 'when attacking' it supports multiple attacks (like a Twin Laser Turret or Gunner) well. It doesn't stress you, allowing you to use your white dial (whilst Push The Limit nails you to your green dial) Con:
Stress shuts it down. It doesn't generate stress itself, but it does make it vulnerable to external stress attacks like R3-A2, and you don't want to be doing red moves (hence it's popular for turrets). It's expensive. 1 point more doesn't sound much but it means you should be looking at using it on more expensive ships.  It only gives you focus-to-hit modification, not rerolls, so doesn't grant rerolls to ships that couldn't anyway. Ideal use: Expensive, Turreted Ships that attack multiple times per turn, don't get stressed often and generate their own rerolls (Dengar)

Also for your consideration: Intensity, Lone Wolf & Wired. Because I like making people's decisions harder....
