I really only feel like we're missing another Gandalf hero - Gandalf the White version. I'm kind of sad they never grasped this opportunity, especially in the Mountain of Fire box - they could have done him instead of Tom Cotton or 2nd Eomer. Another Sam would also be nice, but this is the weirdest thing to ommit in my opinion.

Do you have to roll for damage with new Q7? It doesn't say to ignore them so assume yes. Seems like damaging yourself while arc-dodging is a bit counterproductive

I’m back with the tips videos to help you beat all the villains regardless of the difficulty! This time, it’s cycle I villains (goblin, norman and the crew). Sorry for the break, i hope you enjoy this one! Thanks for the incredible feedback on the previous episode, this inspired me to do the part 2!

Like if your old games were double standard cost but per player, then I'm assuming you want to do that again. So like 1200pts/team, and 400pts/player. Ajay are you planning on players having huge ships at all.
The rules don't require each tool to stay with a particular wing. It's only a matter of convenience to have one for each. Technically it's only used for the movement stage and then removed But many wing setups can get expensive in a hurry anyway, so how often you need done is an issue. Plus once things start dying it becomes much easier to pass around.
Yeah, 1200/team sounds about right. The thing isn't about the formation tools but formation cards and tokens, although i guess those could be proxied (the rulebook says that it even reccomends using max 3 formations with only 1 copy of expansion to avoid using core set ID tokens with the 4th formation). We're planning to be running huge ships, 1 per side.

generally try and limit the points and ship count. Time it takes to play longer games scales something like 1:1.25 past 200 points.
scenarios and capture points that force people to spread out seem more epic. Though they also slow things down. A massive cluster might be fast but also a little boring.
Thanks, capture points sound like something we haven't played before. Reasonably long games don't scare me that much, but it's good to know of the scaling.

Hello. I dived back into x-wing a little bit recently, and one of the first thing i did was to get the epic expansion and conversion sets. We used to play a lot of 6-player epic back in the day (3 people per side, 600 1st edition points per side), and to my suprise, there are only tools to make 4 formations out of the box. Is second box mandatory for 6 player (everyone is using my stuff), or are 4 formations enough for 6 player in your experience? They seem like they can really speed the game up. Also, what scenarios do you think are the most fun for 6/4 people playing, preferably in teams? Cheers

Thanks for noticing that, i was kind of rushing to release the video and the time i didn't double-check the video, this happened
I'll try to trim it!

Plus how cool and thematic is the Response on the Corsair Skirmisher.

Corsair Skirmisher is a reprint, the response is cool and thematic though

Hi! Actually, the presumption is 2-player, as it's the most common mode as far as i'm concerned, but majority of the tips work in the other pairings too.
On 9/4/2020 at 5:55 PM, IceHot42 said:Solid videos, really good tips. Although you should point out Under Surveillance is always strong but not as strong in multi-player against Ultron Expert. Counterintelligence is the stronger play in multi-player because of the interaction with Stage 2B which you will hit in multi-player.
Of course the easiest way to beat Ultron Expert according to most videos I have watched is to simply miss villain triggers, talk and forget to put drones out, skip the 2B trigger, just play on the B side of the stages and forget to put minions out each time the stages advance, forget that you have to exhaust to remove under attack module villain upgrades, fail to realize that concussive blow on an ally chump block makes the attack undefended, forget that drone upgrades applies to the guard drones as well, or just forget the "when defeated" triggers, discard upgraded drones in alter ego mode.
I found under surveillance incredibly useful even in 3-player, as it just makes the control easier, counterintelligence actually goes great with this plan. Thank you for your feedback!
Also, i'm back with another video - no tips this time, although i'm totally preparing for the part 2. For now, i've jumped on the Red Skull bandwagon and started out with a review:

I can count on one hand the cards that are really missing in the card pool right now to feel "complete" for me. I could see how a cycle worth (or two) of player cards could fill the gap in a few archetypes. I would welcome player cards, for sure.
But no.
You could tackle the 116 quests with one deck if you want. You wouldn't play 1 quest with 116 decks though. You would get soooo bored.
To play this game, you need quests way more than you need player cards.
Most of the discussion is about player cards, because it's still a deckbuilding game. But about excitement? I've seen more threads over the years of "where do you think the next cycle will be?" rather than "what archetype do you think they will bring?" (barring people wanting some specific character or item). Some people accept player cards spoilers but not encounter spoilers. The contrary is rarer IMO.
So nope. At this point, with contracts, MotK, Thorongil and Helm of Secrecy, the player deckbuilding options are infinite. The quest pool is only 116 quests. The game's variety is all about quests.
More quests is what we need.
Quests.
Quests.
Quests.
Totally untrue, imo.
The majority of players i know have not yet played all of the quests, while trying out most, if not all of the major archetypes. Quests, in general have better replayability than a player deck. They're less player dependant and as such, there's more variance.
Majority of the game happens in the player deck, no matter how you look at it. It's how you play the game. While there's some tailoring against the scenario, players make decks to achieve some results using different playstyles. It defines the experience much more than the scenario.I would also risk saying the whole "infinite" deckbuilding thing is a bit of overstatement, imo. When you stop looking at the combinations of cards and start looking at actual deck foundations avaiable, the amount shrinks to around 40-50 (just spitballing numbers, but i bet it's around here) viable strategies, like "a cotw deck with repeating events, a secrecy with ally swarming with very good tale/timely aid, a boromir fire/blood, fellowship rush, trait deck swarms, etc, etc". While you can make a gondor swarm in variety of ways, it does not create a distuinguishable enough experience for the player to feel like there's a lot of variety going on.
I ran through your thought experiment and i believe it would be much more enjoyable to run 116 different player decks against a single solid quest than vice versa. Your own strategy you're executing can burn you out, the uncontrollable encounter less so, as you're still getting your puzzle.
If you think about it, the player cardpool is actually still not that big and same staples are the foundation of most solid decks. This is not a criticism as the game couldn't take ToW's or steward's ban because it was designed around their existence, but after almost 10 years the core set staples have no real competition.
It's almost impossible to bore yourself with 116 quests, while the cardpool does feel claustrophobic to me at times. As you feel like you "mastered" the "big" archetypes you're really just push to crappy gimmick decks. And i love them of course, but tbh i feel we still need more player cards, even at the expense of the 116th and 117th quest, as 1 single staple player card can reinvigorate the pool (contracts) the way a quest cannot provide.

A pair of videos this time! We take Curious Brandybuck for a spin with a review and some gameplay.

Another and final part of the faction guide is here!

I really want to believe that, but a lot has been indicating otherwise, and the LOTR-related announcements at the same time is probably just a coincidence. Fingers crossed, though - but from what i have heard, playtesters have not received new material to test for a while. If we get something new, it's gonna be a loooong time from now, and this break could not be the best for the playerbase.

I'm back at it with an experimental video! Probably the only "theory" video i'll make for quite some time, as it was incredibly exhausting, so expect some more "how good is..." in the near future. Hope some of you will enjoy this one!

Whil Whitfoot
Leadership, 6 threat, 2, 1, 2, 2
Each Hobbit character you control gets +1 Defense.
If every Hero you control has the Hobbit trait, Whil Whitfoot gains: "Response: after you raise your threat from a player card effect, lower your threat by one and draw one card. Limit once per phase."
I think he will get a leadership attachment as well that will be the mayor title. Id like it also to synergize with Sam, so maybe on the same trigger give an additional stat boost to a choice of willpower, attack or defense?
Thoughts on that?
I would settle for either the first or the second ability. They don't have a lot to do with each other and each of them is absolutely insane by themselves. (The second ability is almost better Galadriel with the right deck)
If you go for the first one, maybe make the major title about hobbit cost reduction. It's a minor synergy but i wouldn't go to crazy with swarm buffs and could help you bring the defense swarm together.
If you go for the second one, i would do a major title like this: Action: Increase your threat by one. Ready a hobbit character. Imo fits into leadership and the flavor. -
When using Glorfindel (https://ringsdb.com/card/12006) as my MotK hero, when he dies, can i just buy him back as an ally from discard? I suspect yes, but it's weird.

2 hours ago, dalestephenson said:As sideboardy as Bilbo's Plan is, the excitement of new player cards drove away from my mind what it is *not* -- a non-restricted attachment that allows taking Eagles out of play for a benefit. IOW's Gwaihir's ability to ready *at all* is at the mercy of the existing card pool. In that light, I seriously question the decision not to give Gwaihir a threat discount for his card, and I think I prefer MotK-Gwaihir at 10 threat.
I played with Gwaihir a bit. He really would have benefited from the crown that let him either pay for eagles, pay for their abilities or readied him in refresh. As it is, you need both leadership and spirit help in tactics heavy deck (you basically need steward, this deck is uber costly and you need courage for the late game when you're out of eagles). He's a hero where you AND your team need to build around him. He's on the weaker side without it. PS: One of his best activators is elf-stone in lore, so another sphere needed.

I got the Land of Sorrow and for a change i decided to try doing an unboxing video. Enjoy!

Is there a slightest bit of possibility for the nightmare reprint or is FFG not printing the print on demand stuff anymore? I vaguely recall seeing some information that it is impossible but i'm interested in how it really is.

Max is gone as well.

How far can the changes to the game go without destroying its original appeal? If, for example, we do away with dials and templates and switch to traditional wargaming movement, i wouldn't like the game anymore (extreme example). They can change some of the design points, change the old wave release cycle into something else, but when it comes to the game itself, i doubt too much will change - in fear of killing what made it fun in the first place.
