GalacticFist reacted to videege in Announcing Flagship: a web-based fleet builder, analyzer, and RitR campaign manager!
I'm excited to share the latest project I've been working on -  it's called Flagship and it will help you build fleets, analyze them, and provide an almost-100% managed experience for your Rebellion in the Rim campaign!  I've been working on this for the last couple months and I think it's ready for an alpha release.
This project is free and open source - if you like it and have the skills, please consider helping me out at GitHub.
Another note before I rattle off a feature list: registration is required to use this application, but I don't use your personal information for anything besides basic identification (name/photo) and to associate your data with your account.  Feel free to use the 'Guest' registration if you don't want to create an account or use a 3rd-party login, but keep in mind that if you do so your fleets are basically local to your current device.
    Features
    Fleet Building

    - Create and edit fleets for either faction.  Flagship provides shortcuts for common point limits.
    - Pared down interface gives you just the textual information regarding upgrades and ships.
    - Export your fleet to a textual summary (for tournaments, printing, etc.).
    Fleet Analytics

I'm pretty hyped for this one.  To my knowledge there is no more comprehensive analytics platform for Armada than Flagship, and this feature was the main reason I undertook this project.
    - For any ship in your fleet, click 'View Stats' to go to an interface that will show you the expected damage, accuracies, and criticals plus or minus one standard deviation at long, medium, and close range.
    - The same information is available in textual format and includes measures like the coefficient of variance.
    - Calculate the probability of achieving at least N criticals or accuracies at each range, potentially limiting to a specific color (i.e., at least 1 black crit).
    - Most effects in the game (25+) that modify a ship-to-ship attack are modeled by Flagship.  View the probability of needing to use Leading Shots and how that affects the output of your ship.  See how combining a concentrate fire dial and General Romodi ups your damage output.  You can toggle effects off and on and reorder most effects.  (I'm still working on the following effects: Caitken and Shollan, Dual Turbolaser Turrets, Salvation, and the Devastator title.  Also, critical effects are not modeled in the damage output but I figure these are easy enough to calculate in your head.)
    - Note: I am not a mathematician but I have tried to explain the methodology used for each effect type in detail.  In general, this simulation models the probability distribution of each die in an attack pool as each effect is applied to the pool.  Please, if you think I am doing something wrong or sub-optimal here, let me know.
    Rebellion in the Rim Manager
    - Create and manage your RitR campaigns here! (Sorry, no Corellian Conflict yet.)
    - Invite other users to manage their own campaign players or do it all yourself.
    - View the current score and phase of the campaign, the campaign roster (including wins, losses, and MoV), each team's token inventory, the status of every location, and a timeline of campaign events.
    - Flagship will guide you through each step of the campaign from setup to the end.  During the strategy phase, record your declared assaults and Flagship will let you know what conditions each player will get.  Likewise, the battle phase results will let you know how much experience and victory points you will receive, and you can record which parts of your fleet are scarred/veterans. The management phase will allow you build new bases, unscar ships/squadrons, and inform you about what rewards you can add to your fleets.  Flagship also accounts for the pivotal/climactic battle sub-phase.
    - Basically everything is managed for you except modifications to your fleets.
    - Each fleet that is part of a campaign will have a special custom commander editor that allows you to purchase abilities.
    - If you make a mistake, you can also manually modify most values in the campaign.
    Progressive Web App

    - Flagship is designed to be mobile-friendly and a progressive web app.  This means you should be able to add it your phone's launcher and use it mostly like a native app.  (Heads up: I haven't extensively tested this but it seems to work OK on a couple of phones I've tried it on.)
If you made it this far, please let me know what you think - if you encounter any problems, let me know here or on GitHub (I apologize in advance - it is alpha software :D).  Likewise, if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know.

Welcome back and thank you for the feedback! It is by design that you see the other Heavy Weapon upgrades that exist for that faction. I made this decision because when I'm building a list I find it useful to see all the other upgrades (even if I cannot select) for comparative reasons. There are features currently being worked on right now that will allow users to customize exactly how they want the builder to display cards when going through the list building process.

For a certain degree I agree with the OP. The space scenes were great, the new ships were great. Raddus was great. Tarkin, Krennic (Yes I said it!) and the Death Star were great. Nods to the OT were great (Red Five is being destroyed, pilot shots reused). But there were so many BAD things about the movie... The main characters' were poorly written and without any real story arc or decent motivation. Dialogues were dull. How the Rebel leaders acted to the existence of the Death Star was just stupid. They forced Bail, C3PO and R2-D2 needlessly into the movie. Leia was unacceptably badly animated. The Hammerhead vs 2 ISD "solution" was laughable.
I have a weird love-hate relation with this movie. I watched it 3 times already, and there are times when I'm screaming like a little boy so much I enjoy it, but there is always a time when I have to pause it for a few minutes because I'm so enraged about how stupid the movie is sometimes.

    Hello everyone,
With the new clone wars content coming out I decided to put up a newer version of my list builder that will eventually replace the old one located at http://legion-hq.com.
The new one is located at https://legion-hq.herokuapp.com/ for now. Eventually it will take over the legion-hq.com domain once I have finished all the work.
This new one is still a pretty immature version and a lot of features don't work yet that do work at the old site such as:
Entourage (though this is still very buggy in the old site lol) Upgrades that add upgrade slots Saving/Deleting lists associated with your account Adding command cards/battle cards Generating an image of your list to share Printing a PDF of your list to share Exporting/importing a URL that works with the Tabletopadmiral builder Notable features that do work:
Sharing a list via a URL Text export of your list Addition of Separatists/Republic factions Card database where you can search/filter for certain cards Additional Features to be added in the near future:
Your saved lists from the previous builder will automatically be imported into the new builder Ability to fork a saved list Additionally, as this is the newer version I have not had a lot of time to test it so there may be a lot of sneaky bugs hiding. I would also like to hear (via the thread or private messages) any comments, critiques, or criticisms on the user interface and usability and would also like to hear requests for additional features. For today's livestream today I will be updating the builder located at https://legion-hq.herokuapp.com/

Most likely, but to be honest it's lower on the priority list and likely wouldn't be implemented until end of October-ish. I think I'm more likely to put some sort of warning or alert somewhere that explains the current list is not legal and the reason for it.

It is indeed possible. Right now you can add multiples of the same unit in the 'role window' by incrementing the stack but I definitely like the idea of being able to add multiple different units from one window without removing the selection when you pick one, similar to how adding command cards currently works (in the 2.0 version). I'll add this to the list. 😉

Still have not reworked the list consolidation, hopefully I can find time this week to do that soon.

I have also updated both builders with all the new point costs revealed in today's stream and have also added Offensive Push (training upgrade), Luke and Vader's new 1 pip, and Vader's new 2 pip.
Unfortunately, with the new point costs, if you have a saved list in the 1.0 builder you will have to remove and re-add units/upgrades for their point changes to take in effect. This was part of the reason why the 2.0 version is being built, I was very sloppy with the first one. Also, I will probably be moving forward with decommissioning the 1.0 builder in October. All saved lists in the 1.0 builder will be ported into the 2.0 list builder. As for user interface concerns, please let me know if there's something with the 2.0 builder that you don't like.

Look at it this way: Kallus, Annihilator, and QLT together is 16 points. You're investing essentially 2 TIEs to basically delete squadrons. H9s and Palp aren't squad-specific upgrades, and so not something I really account for. They're just as worthwhile against ships as squads.
Ravager adding a single die with a token is just not something that has impressed me. I have a hard time justifying not repairing on the SSD given that means 3 shields, so I can't say I've ever felt the need to use confire commands. I suppose I could feed it tokens, but it's still a single die. I've seen Annihilator's reroll do an entire game's worth of Ravager damage in a single anti-squad volley. The thing's firepower is impressive in its own right. I'd much rather just bring along an IO than Ravager if I need to push more damage, though that starts to get tough on the officer slot.

    Updates:
Moved all functionality that was revealed through a hover over into a menu (the icon that is the 3 dots in a vertical) on the far right. This icon can be pressed to open a menu where you can add upgrades and do things like increment/decrement the stack and delete the stack This icon can be held to drag and drop the row if you wanted to rearrange the order of rows in your list (this also fixes the scrolling issue on mobile) Eventually I will also make the list automagically consolidate rows that are identical as well as adding upgrades modifying just 1 unit in the stack instead of all (perhaps in a couple days this'll be done). Let me know how you guys feel about the new row configuration. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

    Update:
Comms technicians now add an upgrade slot. I haven't tested this much so it could still be a bit buggy. I've increased the margin on the right where you can use your finger to scroll on mobile. Firefox mobile (and perhaps other mobile browsers, but I have found Chrome Mobile works correctly) thinks you're trying to drag and drop when you try to scroll with a finger. This will take a bit more time to come with the correct solution. I've heard feedback that the point totals can be a bit buggy sometimes so I've reworked how list point totals are calculated. I've been fiddling with how to do text exports so any feedback on how to format this is welcome. Here is an current example of the new text export: Edit: Command cards are now included when you share a URL to your list Compared to the previous builder's text export:

GalacticFist reacted to Dave Grant in Vader, Meta (and other ramblings)
I have read a lot of posts, heard a lot of podcasts and seen a lot of videos about Legion that talk about what is / isn't competitive or "meta". I thought I might share some of my thoughts.

Most people will have no idea who I am (rightly so), so I present my credentials as to why you may wish to hear what I have to say:
I have been playing "competitive" war-games for 24 years, and generally do quite well.
I am from the UK originally but I have travelled a lot with work (currently live in Hong Kong) and played games in many places
My work keeps me very busy, and not much of a gaming scene in Hong Kong so my only games of Legion have been in the past 5 months in the US (Adepticon) and UK (4 smaller events, including an RPQ). Total 17 games.
I have only ever taken Vader (because he's awesome), and only ever have 8 activations when playing legion and in my 17 competitive games I have won 16! The only loss was against Luke Cook (current World Champion) at Adepticon. Now many of those games could have gone either way, but I never felt I didn't have a chance when I saw my opponents force - even when they were "top tier meta lists"

So that brings me to the point of the post: Many content makers seem to have decided what is "good" when it comes to Legion... what forces you should take if you want to win. Many people read this content and so the 'myth' propagates (currently trooper spam + snipers if you want to win). Whilst I don't disagree generally with their points I have found that there are many more competitive options if you have a plan, and can execute it well.

In the events mentioned I have played 2 main variations (some minor changes between events) of Vader lists: Vader + Boba and Vader + Tank. Full approximate lists (for anyone interested) are below:
Vader / Boba (3 events in March, 9-1 record)
Vader: Force Push, Sabre Throw, Force Reflexes
Boba Fett: Hunter, Stimms, Recon Intel
Snowtroopers: Flamer, Frag granades, Officer, Recon Intel
    Stormtroopers: Frag granades, Medical Droid
    Stormtroopers: Recon Intel, Frag Granades
Royal Guard: Electrostaff, Tenacity, Environmental Gear
    Strike Team: Sniper
    Strike Team: Sniper

Vader / Tank (2 events in July, 7-0 record)
Vader: Force Push, Force Choke, Anger
    Snowtroopers: Flamer, Frag
    Snowtroopers: Frag, Astromech
    Stormtroopers: Medical Droid
    Death Troopers: DLT, Hunter, Config
    Strike Team: Sniper
    Strike Team: Saboteur, Recon Intel
    Tank: Rifle Pintle

I believe both lists are strong, can deal OK with any list and I would suggest are very "non-meta". So take what you enjoy, have a plan, make it work :-).

Don't get me wrong if you enjoy taking a load of troops and snipers then do it, this is for the other guys who want something different, but worry it won't be "competitive" - just 'do you' and make it work :-).
