You'll need a little bit more for fleshed out 200 pts for beginners and Rebellion in the Rim won't help too much.
You should think about two fleets that are easy to play, that means playing without or with very few upgrades. The Core Set provides a Victory SD (73 or 85 pts) and 6 TIEs (48 or 52 pts). Tarkin (38 pts) is very expensive for this build, because you won't benefit very much! If you take the more point intensive build (85+52+38) you'll have 175 pts. With some upgrades you could go up to 200 pts., but that's no fun to play!
I would recommend to grab an additional Imperial Light Cruiser Expansion which gives you Moff Jerjerrod as Commander for the Empire. VSD, Arquitens and some TIEs with Moff Jerry can be a lot of fun to play!

Same for rebels! Nebulon and CR90 with some X-wings are not much of a build. Maybe you can get a cheap AFII (because medium sized), another CR90 (the more, the better), or some Hammerheads (because people recognise them from Rogue 1). In my eyes an additional CR90 Expansion with MonMothma as your new commander is the best for beginners and the most rebel you can bring to the game!

I kept beating my brother playing Armada and though it wasn't that difficult, but then I went to a tournament...... dead last. So I went home and got "serious" about fleet building. Played through a whole campaign, when to a few met ups, played more games with my brother. Then went again the next year..... dead last. But I believe this year will be different!  And even if its no different  then the years before and I come crashing into dead last again, Armada is still by top game hands down.

    No.
Only if you would want to play 1 faction only you could ignore the other half of the universe. Otherwise it's only a question of what to buy first. (And how many of each.)

One of the requirements for using a ranged weapon is that you cannot use one while engaged in melee. Because you can't fire out of melee you can't use fire support, regardless if fire support isn't an attack as it still needs to meet the criteria for being an attack.
I would further argue that because you must meet all criteria for using the weapon, that limited visibility also still affects fire support as that adds that you must be within range "x" to attack.

Every ship has a place and would say they are all worth buying, some are lower priority though. Would wait on things like a Pelta, Assault Frigate Mk2 or a stand alone Victory Star Destroyer (though can be found stupidly cheap).

Reminds me of when I was searching the internet for strategies for Blokus (a game that I'm not good at), and I found posts by dads asking "how do I beat my 9-year-old at Blokus?"

Sorry! I've been wrong. Actually there is no part in the campaign booklet that says so. I think I mixed things up, because the special rules for "Final Pivotal Battle" that allow to replace ships, upgrades and/or squadrons for a huge or large ship. ISDs are just fine for a Task Force fleet.
    😌🙏

    Greetings, fellow commander!
From time to time I read posts about where to find certain rules or complaints about missing an all-include rule book. Time to explore the Star Wars: Armada wiki!
You will always find the newest content at "Wiki Activity" if you open the drop-down menue "Explore" in the headline. But from time to time I will report about the content you will now find there or about new ways to navigate there. Maybe I will ask for content, as I have no better access to game material than any of you.
I hope you all benefit from the work that is done at the wiki and wish good battles!

Quite good! That means, you start with at least two areas without a friendly base. And going for a border location is high-risk high reward!
