Look, I get it, if you don't have a lot of experience with firearms as a normal part of your life, it certainly seems strange.
But right now you're ragging on a whole lot of people, some good friends and family members of mine, that are good, honest, smart, and giving, who also happen to own and sometimes carry firearms.
It's destructive, intellectually dishonest, and does nothing but create a divide where there doesn't need to be one.
There are of course disrespectful and irresponsible members of any arbitrary category of people you can create, and this is no exception, but at the core of your motivation here is antagonizing those who are different than you for no reason beyond that they are different.  This is unfortunately to a large extent human nature as our history attests, but we all have a choice to better.
And right now I'm encouraging you to be better; if you're going to jump into a subject, do so with the goal of dialogue, not just to take a self-satisfying cheap shot at a group you feel is "safe" to target.

You apparently have a paranoia of CCL holders that is not backed in any way by statistics of their criminality.
Bearing arms in the US is a legal right and being prepared to defend yourself or others in the event of a dangerous altercation is thoroughly undeserving of the scorn and condescension you've been casting on it.  Many different types of people carry for many different reasons.  You are clearly not comfortable with the responsibility involved in carrying, but casting that discomfort onto others is simple projection.
I am happy for you that your life has been privileged enough to not consider legally carrying a weapon a reasonable option, and I hope it continues to stay that way.

Hm...well, I suppose if it's for legal protection, I can at least understand the reasoning, even if it's regrettable that people would sue a company for something that's not the company's fault.
(Though, as far as actual safety for the participants is concerned, if you're talking about the Jacksonville incident, I don't see how a rule like this would have made any difference.)
Citation, please?  If the source I found is correct, Australia's travel advisory level for the US is "exercise normal safety precautions", just as the US State Department's is for travelers to Australia.  That's the standard advisory for any country that's not elevated to something higher.

    Who says I am?
But to answer for carriers in general, most simply have the habit of carrying daily, everywhere they legally can.  To take it off just because you're going to a tournament could well mean leaving your firearm in your car, unattended, for the duration of the tournament.  It's much more responsible to have your firearm in your possession and under your control.
Furthermore, the more times you have to remove and put on your weapon, the more people will see it and know about it, and the more likely someone could try to start trouble (anything from thieves breaking into your car to steal it to idiots deciding to SWAT you just because they don't like guns).
I'd also point out that using a weapon for intimidation or threats (never mind actually attacking with it!) is already against the law.  If someone does it, they're already in for a worse penalty than losing a tournament prize.  On the other hand, if someone's not breaking any laws (and especially if no one even knows they're carrying), what difference is it to you if they're carrying or not?  Again, anyone who has been about in the US for any amount of time has certainly been in the same stores as people carrying firearms before, and probably never even realized it.

I miss low I ships being dangerous when kitted up, and more generally the TIE/fo feeling like a dangerous ship as opposed to list fodder.
3xSilencer, 3xRSV T-70, 5x/fo, etc.  Now generics feel like they win almost entirely through attrition or through mods provided by other ships as opposed to being individually capable, which is kind of a bummer.  I still fly some fun generic lists, but they don't have quite the same magic.

RampancyTW reacted to GreenDragoon in What did 1.0 do better than 2.0?
I know you've been through this discussion several times. I agree with you that in an individual game and an individual list, it can be the case that 1.0 rewarded it more. But not if we look at the game in its last two years as a whole.
If I understand you correctly, the hyper dice modification of 1.0 means that a good position gave reliable results, while 2.0 means you can get an amazing position and still end up without any result from it. I don't think that this is wrong by itself. But I think that this can't be expanded to mean 1.0 rewarded good flying much more than 2.0 because the other side of that hyper dice modification coin was that good flying ended up without any result from it. The prime examples are of course Soontir with autothrusters, token stack and palp. But there was also Miranda and other regen monsters, and of course all the 360° turrets that simply didn't care about their maneuvers.
All these elements mean that, overall, 1.0 did not reward good flying as much as 2.0.

1.0 rewarded good flying much more than 2.0
Not always, of course (things like fat han for example definitely didn't), but overall dice variance was less impactful before so you were less prone to cold dice while outmanouvering your opponents
