I think that’s more about the fact 5A is an overrated list tbh.
You brought a low offense list vs a high defense list, dedicated 20-40% of your offense to blocking and struggled to deal damage.  That sounds like everything was functioning as intended and the aces were an excellent predator on what might otherwise be an unpleasant spam list.

There's a lot of bull to this.
@Boom Owl, you make good threads, but you LOVE hyperbole. stop reaching for reasons and take your punches. Some things are not going to coincide with your point.
I make this plenty clear about myself and what I say. I'm wrong a lot, and also right a lot (see audacious balance). I've already spoken over and over abut it again, but audacious balance had the problem effect of making ace+swarm a dominant play style due to sheer generic efficiency. Sheer generic efficiency is an old problem all the way from 1.0 balancing. Your lack of understanding with heavily-limiting-upgrades also shows another thing: You don't understand why natural dice and a slow game are actually a play experience problem. You may think for now that generic matches are beautiful, but anyone with more experience tells you that after a few months, its remarkably boring, exceptionally prone to RNG, and creates a false meta where one particular archetype is advtanged. And that's my last gripe with you: I don't know why the aces traumatize you so, but you really don't seem to understand how biased you are to certain matchups and to certain factions.

That's really not a very helpful response, honestly it comes off as passive-aggressive.    Not sure if that was the intent but whatever.  I'll quote one of the posts I'm reacting to, in case that's a concern:
The existing 70-point Soontir (shield + hull upgrade) isn't flown as much because he's competing with Vader and other in-faction prices, but let's imagine all ace prices do in fact go up.  However you price Soontir and others, they still need to be viable for how they actually work out on the table.  I can't see a 70ish-point 3-hull Soontir being a great ace choice; that's about Vader's price right now, but Vader has passive/double mods, extra crit functionality, a sensor slot option, a natural lock without Targeting Computer (instead of natural boost), and great stress-free reposition options; all that on top of two extra shields to absorb the types of mishaps that end Soontir's career too early too often.  Soontir is extremely vulnerable to typical dice variance...  As currently designed, an expensive + delicate Soontir is a hard sell.
How does a 70-point Soontir compete within his own faction?  What's Vader's base cost in this scenario, 90 or 100?  I'm curious where all the chips fall so we can talk about viability and what kind of lists would be built around these pieces.  I'm okay with discussing 3-ace lists being rare or impossible to field, let's explore that design space.  And it's fine to explore a meta where 1 or 2 aces escort some scrubs, instead of 3-ace lists being a gold standard.  But I'm curious about what those actual costs should be.  It's really hard to talk in a vacuum, and I think considering Soontir's price and how to price other aces with him raises interesting implementation questions.
So we've broached the subject of a 70-point Soontir; given that, how pricey is Vader?

@Hiemfire seeing your fierce defense of what devs wrote (against what devs said...) I'd like to point out nothing in what you've quoted actually states what the attack is. The RR gives the steps an attacker is supposed to follow, but not what an attack is composed of.
Moreover, there's a certain interesting loophole in the text itself which I find particularly interesting in terms of how these steps correspond to when exactly attack is performed (also, observe how I managed not to paste whole page of RR on the forum, oh boy, some of us scroll through it on mobile... ;) )
So, given some circumstances the attacker may decide not to attack. But these circumstances are assessed during the "Declare Target" step and so the attacker would, asserting the attack is taking place throughout the six steps, already be performing an attack.
In other words, the attacker has to be performing an attack in order to be able to decide not to attack. But can he decided not to attack if he clearly already decided to attack to ever get to this point?
In other news, this is still just a boardgame so shall we just enjoy playing it the way it's been explained to us by the creators?

The latter explanation is 100% how it works based on how Matchstick, Rivas and Outrider have been ruled.  No previous precedent supports belief number one.
Some TOs may rule differently, but friendly locks work for Matchstick, friendly locks on opponents trigger Rivas, and enemy locks can be removed by Outrider, which all use the same language of token ownership.

I really, really don't understand this mindset.  He moves last (or close to it) behind a defensive token, 3agi, and 2h2s.  He's plenty tough and on the flank is native double mods with unmatched time on target.

I would 100% favor myself vs most other players if I were the X-Wings in this matchup.  The Interceptor player only needs one bad variance swing to be screwed and I'm pretty confident in my ability to force enough dice trades to get there.
Conversely, I would also bet on myself if I were the Interceptor player, since I'm pretty confident in my ability to avoid the worst of those trades.
It's almost as if the game is fairly balanced and the player is more important than the lists.  🤔

I wouldn't do it.  Huge ships are not balanced around smaller points formats.  Native regen and reinforce along with copious amounts of attack output make them a pretty severe NPE unless planned around ahead of time.

    Cliffsnotes of this update?
Want to activate the autoranges for the left arc, right arc, full front arc and full back arc? You can. These buttons are no longer disabled and show you the best line or the best band of lines you can get. The deplete token was added in (wave 6+) The ships (TIE/ba interceptor and fireball) and some pilot card art gfx which was added via the Content Checker has been included in this update. Both of those ships are playable.
    @Mu0n:
    New autoranges for arcs
    Left Arc Autorange
    Right Arc Autorange
    Full Front Arc Autorange
    Full Back Arc Autorange
Automatically routed Autorange NOT IMPLEMENTED for single and double turrets, use individual arc autoranges instead
    New Depleted token
Should spawn with a few of the pilots that mention it
Can also be found in the Pieces window
    Autospawn rework
This is an invisible upgrade in the background. The URL endpoint that was used to spawn a YASB2 list URL has been migrated to another. The old one will no longer be maintained so I had no choice but to follow the new one.
    Bug Squashing:
I believe I’ve solved a seldom occurring bug involving rear arcs when the ship was facing a certain way (right, iirc). No targets were being found on the left. This has been resolved.

Wait, is 67 of CLT Anakin NOT comparable to that Soontir?  Similar movement profile, better stress management, much better disengagement capabilities, etc.  Less raw damage output but much sturdier vs. multiple attacks.  They're a much closer comparison than you give them credit for imo.

To be blunt, this is so wrong I don't even know where to begin.
I think I'll leave it at that you have a drastic misunderstanding of the planning that goes into repositioning play.  Some ships like Jedi (and very arguably Soontir) don't pay a high enough point cost relative to their in-game benefit/in-game cost ratio, but repositioning has a benefit and a cost that needs to be factored into the decision-making processes of both players.
