I would honestly love to know how the I6 Y-of-doom performs on the table. It’s so freaking expensive that I hesitate to try it myself, but I can’t deny that it might have potential!

Another potential advantage of Broadside is that you’re maybe not paying for Veteran Turret Gunner—maybe you’re just using the Ion shot out the side. And in that case, you’ve got a big ol’ 180 degree arc that you could use to throw Seventh Fleet Gunner dice at friends...

The ARC is a full on gunship
I think this gets at the heart of the difference. The Y is probably going to feel like it needs more add-ons for the job you want it to do, but part of what makes R2 in particular kind of awkward is that he can’t take an astro slot. Whereas you can just throw a naked ARC out there and slap people around, or throw more goodies onto it if you have points.
20 minutes ago, It’s One Of Ours said:Dial-wise they are identical, aside from the ARC having blue bank maneuvers. So that gives it a slight edge in shedding stress.
I think this is a pretty big advantage to the ARC, and it highlights the pain of R2 being astro-less. Frankly the Republic Y’s blues are crap, bordering on nonexistent. At least the ARC has a little bit more going for it there.

The rest of the list is basically DareDevil Ric, Sense Mace and Tucker. Tucker and the ARC/Y-Wing will parade towards the enemy, and the other two guys will flank.
Thanks for the help.
I have been goofing around with variations on those same themes! I’d encourage you to post your full list ideas for clarity. Honestly though, I keep thinking that the ARC might be a better choice for this kind of list. With the Y, you only have a pop-gun unless you go for turrets; whereas the ARC just has the stock 3-red forward and the back arc.

At 35 points, you get the current cheapest crew carrier on the Republic, yoy get a talent slot and you also get an interesting ability. If you put an ion cannon turret on his rear arc and give him proxi mines, it becomes really hard to flank him and he doesn't even need to take actions to create that threat. Sadly, i don't think there's anyone that is really trying to find a place for a crew on republic right now, as the Jedi do fine without coordinate and you dont really have a heavy hitter like a Falcon on the faction just yet. In any case, once that need arises, R2 will be chosen as the carrier for sure.
I keep eyeing R2 as a Coordinate platform, and I feel like there’s gotta be something there. Consider that he’s I2; that means he’s paying almost the minimum possible price for Squad Leader. So even with the recently repriced Tac Officer, he’s still not super expensive:
R2-D2 (35)
Squad Leader (6)
Tactical Officer (6)
Total: 47I also keep eyeing some kind of janky support-with-teeth loadout, of which this is far from the only possibility:
R2-D2 (35)
Squad Leader (6)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)
Clone Commander Cody (3)
Tactical Officer (6)
Synchronized Console (2)
Total: 58The idea, of course, is that R2 mostly just hands off his action to a friend, and uses his shooting to dish out strain plus occasional chip damage. But he’s also got the Sync Console to pick up a higher-I teammate’s lock, which might let him punch above his weight with the APTs.
I’m not at all convinced that this is an optimal build, but I keep thinking there’s something there...

@LeMightyASPjust dropped a list idea that I might also consider:
Alpha Strike
(42) Ric Olié [Naboo Royal N-1 Starfighter]
(5) R2-C4
(3) Passive Sensors
(3) Daredevil
(13) Proton Torpedoes
Points: 66(47) Obi-Wan Kenobi [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(6) R2-A6
(19) Delta-7B
Points: 72(44) "Odd Ball" [BTL-B Y-wing]
(2) R4 Astromech
(6) Afterburners
(6) Adv. Proton Torpedoes
Points: 58Total points: 196
This is an Alpha Strike list, the point is to have Oddball and Ric trade aggressively with the help ofthe torps and then let Obi Wan clean up what's left

I know this is an odd request, but I’m looking for list ideas that would let me fly my three Republic ships that have yet to see table time. I’ve been looking for anything in this vein but I’m not finding it, nor have I had much luck brainstorming something myself.
(Yes, I’m pretty behind on flying my Republic stuff; I just don’t get to play much. And I figured I’d need a strong list to make the Aethersprite work, since I’m usually not the best fragile-Ace player.)
(Similarly, I’m not keen on buying more than one of these babies until and unless the one copy I have of them proves itself.)
Here’s my first stab at an idea, but I only put this out there to get things started—I suspect this is probably hot garbage. I’ve struggled to think of Sprite and Naboo builds that make sense to me. I usually favor more overtly beefy or janky ships, and I don’t “get” these.
Ahsoka Tano (47)
R4 Astromech (2)
Delta-7B (17)Ric Olié (42)
Outmaneuver (6)
Fire-Control System (2)
R2-C4 (5)Shadow Squadron Veteran (35)
Expert Handling (2)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Veteran Turret Gunner (8)
R4 Astromech (2)Gold Squadron Trooper (25)

The first ship I bought when I got into X-Wing was a HWK-290. I had played Dark Forces as a younger fellow, and I was excited to fly something that I felt personally connected to.
I made a pretty big mistake, though—and I don’t just mean starting with one of the most underpowered ships of 1.0. No, when I was trying to decide how to store my first couple of ships, I briefly considered keeping the plastic packaging that the HWK model rested in, but ultimately tossed it and just put the model in a box.
Big mistake.
Six years later, my poor HWK has had several of its tiny guns bend and/or fall off, and I’ve had to glue its back fins on at least twice. All the while, I’ve made several attempts to store the thing properly, but it’s just big and oblong enough to be difficult to situate well in my case without bouncing around and taking more damage.
I recently arranged a trade for a new one—and you can bet that I’m keeping the packaging this time! But I want the old one to live on in some useful capacity, even though it’s mostly good for scrap.
Which brings us to this thread. Long story short, I want to be able to fly my Resistance Transport as both the Transport and the Pod at the same time. To do so, I’ll need to put something in place of the Pod. I figure the HWK is kind of weirdly shaped for that job, but what the heck—it’s available. And this is far from the first time I’ve converted a model, though it’ll be the first time since my past life as a 40k addict.
The only thing I don’t really know how to do is get pictures onto here. Any help with that?

In 2.0, I use empty Magic The Gathering boxes that my FLGS sells cheap. I put different card types in individual deck-sized boxes, then put those boxes in flip-open “fat pack” boxes.
I had fiddlier solutions for the little cards in 1.0, but I kinda got sick of dealing with them. This takes up a little more space but it’s really simple.

Me too. My usual gaming buddy has his original Sheath from 1.0, and one I traded him when I was getting rid of my Rebels. I’m hoping that’s enough of a foot in the door to lure him into starting Clankers...

”Belay previous orders! Take evasive action! All batteries, concentrate fire on that squad!”

This actually raises a good question. I technically do have a Facebook account, but I never really use it and I know they keep changing things—which is honestly a big part of why I gave up on it.
Anyway: if I was going to try to use Facebook (or whatever else) as a way of connecting up with other local players... like, what would I do? And what should I try to avoid doing?
(Everyone feel free to point and laugh at the oldie)

After way overbuying in 1.0, I’ve been sticking pretty hard to a one-copy-per-ship/only-factions-I-already-fly policy for myself in 2.0. So with those criteria in mind, the Republic Y-Wing is my one-and-only this week. I’m looking forward to it, though; seems like a fun expansion for the faction!

If FFG feels that badly about the X-Wing app, I wish they would open it up to the community to help. I bet there are some extremely passionate developers out there who would have it fixed up in a weekend.

12 minutes ago, Hiemfire said:1.0 Empire has been split into 2 factions (3 if you include the Firespray now being Scum and Villainy only).
First off, welcome back @Celestial Lizards! Like Heimfire pointed out, Empire ended up being spread across 3 factions, which is part of why I ended up playing so many dang factions myself.
Empire was one of my loves in later 1.0. I’ve only dabbled back into them a little bit in 2.0, but it seems pretty much “business as usual.” If you mained Empire in 1.0, then you probably want to pick up a new core set and a conversion kit as soon as possible. They’ve got the tools and the talent!
My main for much of 1.0 was Scum. I recently did a writeup of how my fleet is faring in 2.0. Suffice it to say that they still have strengths, but it definitely takes some creativity to make them work these days. They generally aren’t well-regarded, and there are reasons why... but I’m never gonna give up on my homies.
I ended up with FO because of the Empire split. I was also delighted to see Amazon slash the prices of Upsilons to the point where I was able to get two for about half the price of one in 1.0. I haven’t actually flown my FO tons in 2.0, but they were grand when I did. I feel like they’re sleek and deadly in a way that Empire isn’t—not that Empire’s lacking!
I got into Republic because I unabashedly love the prequels. So far, I’ve found them to be beefy as heck, and very satisfying to fly.
Last but (probably) least, I grabbed a Resistance conversion and a couple of ships because I had a few things left over from 1.0 that I couldn’t otherwise get rid of. Haven’t flown them at all yet.

Welp, I just went and picked up a Gozanti over lunch. I call it, “getting more value out of my conversion kit.”
Well played, FFG.

Yet I have the age old problem of too many hobbies and don’t need another one bleeding me dry.
If you’re worried about X-Wing bleeding you dry, turn back now—it’s good at that. But that’s because the game is fun, the models look great, and there’s such a huge variety of things to fly that it’s awfully tempting to get just one more ship...
I don’t actually know much about competitive flying. What I do know, however, is that different kinds of ships lend themselves to different play styles and personal preferences. I’m also loosely aware of the differences between Hyperspace and Extended, in the sense that they might limit your choices.
Where I’m going with this is that you should probably determine whether your local scene focuses on Hyperspace or Extended before you buy anything beyond the core. If it’s Hyperspace-only, I’d consider buying just enough of a variety of legal ships for the format to start practicing and seeing what you like. (Personal example: I have learned that I dislike and am not good at flying glass aces like Interceptors; I never went deeper than one, and I eventually even got rid of it.)
If your scene focuses on Extended, though, then I’d plush for a conversion kit and start trawling Amazon & eBay for bargains. Again: you probably don’t know what you’ll enjoy flying yet, and a few games with some diverse ships will start helping that. And while 2.0 is generally less upgrade-dependent than 1.0 was, it’s super nice to just start out in the faction with a load of upgrades at your fingertips.
Good luck, have fun!

Thank you @theBitterFig! I might see if I can dig up a copy of Delayed Fuses before my next game. Otherwise though, I’m pretty well sold on the recent ideas here, with the exception of being rather curious about the R1-2 specialist Redline. The following fits, though I’m not sure if giving up Redline’s R3 ordnance capability is wise.
It sure sounds fun, though...
Cutlass Squadron Pilot (38)
Passive Sensors (3)
Diamond-Boron Missiles (6)
Fifth Brother (9)“Deathrain” (44)
Trajectory Simulator (10)
Barrage Rockets (8)

Yeah, but on a Y-Wing, why not just take the hull so it’s “automatic” and you don’t have to chew up the astro slot or deal with having to run away and be disabled to regen? The thing isn’t going to be as nimble.
Unless the point is more that Y-Wings aren’t as nimble as Deltas, in which case: guilty as charged. But I think if you’ve decided to using them, you’re probably better off adding more beef through the mod slot than the astro slot.
