This is exactly my plan actually. I'm also trying to track down some used first edition imperial ships for cheap to get a better return on my conversion kit. Ideally I would find someone local who wants to go mono rebels in 2.0 and trade them my unwanted rebel ships for their unwanted imperial ships.

I've kinda started doing this with my one buddy who plays mostly Rebel or Resistance with a little bit of Scum. I've gravitated a lot more toward Imps & Scum in the last couple years, with some splashes into FO. I like playing everything but it's not going to be practical for me to convert it all in one fell swoop. So in the meanwhile I'm snapping up his extra Imp ships that he's never used and likely never gonna use, because it pushes up the value and variations that I can get out of the Imp kit.

If E-Wings cost the same as defenders, they will probably suck. I’m guessing the stock Defender will cost 66, and the stock E-Wing will be mid-high 50s.

Quite possibly. But the great thing is that FFG can tweak the points on the fly so that everything can stay useful, regardless of where they end up on the cost curve.

I still don't get why TLJ seems to draw more flak than attack of the Clones. Sure, it wasn't that great, but it wasn't the worst Star Wars.

Eh, people like to gloss over the silly aspects of all the movies except R1, but they're there to varying degrees. Maybe it's that R1 was a tough act to follow, having finally given people the non-silly Star Wars movie they always wanted.

Embrace the silly side! Over-seriousness clearly leads to hatred, which leads to the Dark Side! ?

  4. I think this is probably sub-"competitive," but it looks like a bloody good time. Equal PS shenanigans are always fun. I'd be tempted to take a Harpoon and Chips instead of the HotCop though, or maybe to spend that remaining point on a Tactical Jammer. Thweek could work but you'd need a bigger bid to get the most value out of him, and he probably wants FCS... again, you might end up sacrificing the HotCop to buy him Virago and FCS with a 2-point bid.

I'm awful tempted to fly something like this this weekend, though, because it just looks cool.

I am assuming that if we get Clone War factions (likely Republic vs CIS), how would you react to there being included in some of the ship packs pilots that are for Rebel and Imperial factions?  Kinda like how the Scum bomber has one Rebel pilot in it.

There is canon precedent, in Tarkin, Vader was still flying his (painted black) Jedi starfighter from then end of the Clone Wars.  And there is the post Endor set comic that has Leia and Poe’s mom visiting Naboo, and having to jump in some old Naboo starfighters.

Just some thoughts.  I know some weren’t happy to have that one Rebel pilot in the Scum pack.  But it could be some fun flavor, and I like the possibility of a ship piloted by Liea.

Yes. A thousand times yes. I don't care what anyone says, I like the prequels and their era and their ships. If FFG puts them in the game I'll fly 'em with glee.

My heart goes out to the one dude still flying Imperial Firesprays in 2018. He's really getting the shaft with this change.

Present and reporting for duty, sir! #MakeKrassisImperialAgain

That reminds me, I’m gonna have to bum an extra Punisher upgrade off someone, since the kit only comes with two. ?

  7. For the record, I'm actually pretty okay with both 2e itself and the way it's being handled. I don't like having chunks of my collection stuck behind the need for upgrade packs, but I get why it was done this way and for the most part I'm okay with it.

The real downside that I'm feeling now is that this totally kills my inclination to buy more ships in the remaining 1e era. Like I'd recently contemplated buying another Harpoon Expansion Pack to open up some specific build options, but now there's only marginal value in flying those couple of builds for the next few months versus just saving the money for later update packs and flying something else. Similarly, I was super stoked for the X-Wing and U-Wing fix pack, and the Reaper preview looked awesome too... but now suddenly the X and U fixes are going to come to me in the Rebel update whether I buy the standalone pack or not, and now I'd honestly rather put the $30 for the Reaper toward the $50 I need to get all the rest of my Imps legal in 2e.

Y'know what I mean? None of this is bad per se, but boy does it disincline me to spend more on X-Wing until 2e drops.

  8. I'll admit that I'm peeved about the presumed ~$250 buy-in to keep all my ships usable. I don't quite have everything but I'm just shy of it, and I greatly enjoy mixing up squad selection. The thought of being stuck buying back in one faction at a time is unattractive.

Overall though, I like what I'm seeing out of 2E. I particularly like the day-1 conversion kits being available for most factions.

Wish I hadn't ebayed a couple of the cards that I did a while ago, of course.

I completely understand reservations about $50 boxes (esp multiple) but I would encourage people first wait for more info and then maybe purchase A box to start

Sure you can't fly five Xs (you can fly 3, two with conversion and 1 with Saw's 2.0 contents) but you can still fly thematic lists from across the movies

Xs and Ys v TIEfighters with Vader,

Falcon and Xs v tie fighters with bombers

    Xys/Ya/As/B's/falcon v fighters  and interceptors...

While the cost is high, it may be worth the POSSIBILITY that these ships can hit the table without the player hamstringing themselves in terms of competitive viability

and you can (if you want to) experience this with a lot less $ if you pace yourself

then you can see if it's worth diving into the blank hole from wence no wallet returns

Personally I think there will be a fair amount of swapping among mates. Getting everyone's collection back to 100% usable might not realistically happen, but then I bet most longtime players have more than they can fly in a year anyway. And the secondary market will more than make up for those corner cases where you just need one more Advanced dial or something.

  10. I have more fun losing at X-Wing than winning at most other games. Which is fortunate, considering what my W/L rate would look like if I tracked it.

To me, this is a fast and fun tabletop game that makes me think while I'm playing it, sparks creativity in list-building, and has a relatively low cost of entry.

Granted, that cost has kept growing over time. But it's a minis game where I never have to build and paint anything, yet I still get to play with great minis (that probably look better than I could do with them anyway).

Must listen to Motorhead when playing this list

    yaaaaaaaas!!!

Though having just flown a bomber for the first time in a long time this week, I should probably warn that this seems to be in for an uphill battle. The bomber isn't a terrible platform but it turns like a brick and it doesn't have any crit mitigation. Some guys where I was playing suggested running them with Lightweight Frame to help with the latter. I think you could almost get away with that if you're running harpoons. Doubly so if you have something that can help out with action economy. Maybe switch one ship down to a support piece?

    TIE silencer

Whether a decked out sensor kylo or analysts packing fcs, optics, and thrusters, the dang thing is solid, useful, awesome looking, and fun

Still also VERY fond of the x7, but it's playstyle does not vary wildly between its pilots even if most of them are viable

I'm inclined to agree about the Silencer. Finally just flew mine yesterday in the full Pricey Kylo configuration... and holy crap, that ship is a blast. Just dial something in without worrying too much and then pre-move boost/BR your way around whatever the board state looks like when you get that far. And yet it doesn't feel overpowered given that it's still a really expensive fixed-arc ship.

Saturation salvo(1) Accuracy corrector (3) Gunner (5) Captain rex (2) Munitions Failsafe (1) flechette torps (2)

Fire flechette torps, cancel results with AC, Sat. Salvo triggers, gunner triggers, captain rex triggers, Munitions failsafe triggers, all so you can give one stress token to the enemy, at a grand total of 41 points

Oh, that's deliciously janky. You can double-down on it, though, by switching the crew to Luke + Tactician. It's more points, but also more stress!

  14. As someone suggested a while back: FFG needs to remove the title that lets it equip up to 4 crew. That was bad enough without the mod that gives it the ability to fire those crew as 4-dice weapons, but together it's just disgustingly OP. Personally I'm getting sick of getting tabled turn 2 to a salvo of "courier torpedoes."

  15. Maybe this? I don't love the Cutlass right now...

    "Redline" — TIE Punisher 27
    Fire-Control System 2
    Extra Munitions 2
    Plasma Torpedoes 3
    Cluster Missiles 4
    Guidance Chips 0
    Ship Total: 38

    "Deathrain" — TIE Punisher 26
    Accuracy Corrector 3
    Bomblet Generator 3
    Lightweight Frame 2
    Ship Total: 34

Cutlass Squadron Pilot — TIE Punisher 21
    Collision Detector 0
    Unguided Rockets 2
    Ion Bombs 2
    Lightweight Frame 2
    Ship Total: 27
