Then you'll have 2 Xs vs 4 TIEs. And, in truth, one of the most cost effective ways to boost your ship count.
I’ll give this a hearty “me too,” especially considering that your situation isn’t one new player but two. Both of you having a set of the core components will reduce how much you have to step on each other’s toes while you play. Plus, then at least the poor Rebel player gets to have a second ship! And overall, you should see more stuff blowing up through focus fire (and clearer motivation to maneuver ships in concert to achieve focus fire).

I think you mean the conversion kits. And yeah, as long as you’re willing/able to dig around some to find first edition models, I agree that the conversion kits will help give your budding collection a tremendous shot in the arm. But you need those 1.0 ships to make it worthwhile.
In fact, if you guys both like Rebels and don’t mind playing Rebel vs. Rebel, you might even be able to get by for a while with just the Rebel conversion kit, because Rebels have their own version of the TIE Fighter!

I’ll echo the sentiment that finding other passionate and experienced players will help shed some light on the subtleties. Getting out to play is great when you can!
Another admittedly more unexpected possibility is that you may have some funky dice. I don’t have the link handy but a clever fellow recently did a detailed analysis of X-Wing dice and found that some rolled less than random results. Adding a few more dice to your pool might help dilute this effect if it’s happening.
Beyond that, I do feel that X-Wing suffers a bit when you’re only able to play very small games with a fixed couple of ships. There’s a huge and wonderful variety of ships out there, with pilots and upgrades galore—and it frankly sucks a bit when all you see on either side of the board is two Academy Ties and a generic X-wing! This is where getting some exposure to other players and their lists (and their collections) can help you get a sense of what you might like to add to fit your playstyle (which you probably don’t even have a great sense of yet). Or, just scan Ebay/Amazon/the trade thread for relatively inexpensive options in the faction that inspires you the most.
Because ultimately, I think that’s a very important aspect of the game: what part of the sprawling Star Wars mythos really inspires you and your wife the most? Those are the ships that you’ll probably enjoy flying a bunch, at least until you build more specific tastes and preferences around playstyle. But even then, the love-aspect is important to hold onto!

I’ll agree that 0-0-0 synergizes well with 4-LOM, but I disagree that the title is optional. You’re not always going to want the barrel roll, but it can be clutch when you need it.
My 4-LOM of choice is:
4-LOM (49)
Elusive (3)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Qi’ra (2)
Mist Hunter (2)
Jamming Beam (0)
Total: 66The Jamming Beam isn’t special; it’s just filling the slot. If the list has room, I’d definitely consider bumping it to a Tractor, Autoblaster, or HLC.
One layer of the magic here comes from Elusive. It adds absolutely stupid amounts of durability, because 4-LOM always wants to do red maneuvers. Seriously: you want Elusive on 4-LOM.
Qi’ra seems like a funky choice until the fateful turn comes when you get stuck flying over a rock that you can’t otherwise barrel roll around. Then you start to see how she adds another layer of magic. Because you target lock the thing, fly over it... and realize that nothing bad happened. So maybe you keep the lock and fly over it again... or even K-turn through it a few times in succession... and don’t forget that you ignore it while you shoot through it, but get defensive bonuses from it when you get shot at through it... and at some point you start laughing maniacally because this little 2-point upgrade turned your slippery little 4-LOM into an even slipperier beast.

Happy G-1A’ing! I loved the big ugly truck so much, I bought two!
As for wingmates: I’ve enjoyed flying an all-3s list with Zuckuss in the other G-1A, Seevor in the MG TIE, and... “something” in a 4th ship. I’ve done the Outer Rim Escape Pod with Tac Officer and found that pretty good, though that was pre-points adjustment. I’ve also done Manaroo with IG-88D as a support ship handing out 2 Calcs per turn; I think she needs a little something more, but I haven’t found it yet. Similarly, if I’m honest, I don’t know what to put on Zuckuss; I’ve tried a couple things, but it seems like he bloats fast and lacks 4-LOM’s crazy unpredictability.
Best of fortune!

(If you find yourself with more 104th Battalion, Squad Seven Veteran, or Seventh Fleet Gunner cards than you can use, I would love to see if I could trade you for one of each. I’m stretching one Republic ARC pack across that plus two Rebel ones, which largely works, but a couple more generic pilot cards would rock my world!)

The obvious disadvantages versus 5Yions are many fewer red dice per turn, and no turnarounds. At I1, you’re going to want to fly them in a way that sets up big nasty killboxes, because you’re not going to be able to chase as effectively. But I can’t deny that the stop and backup maneuvers could make you a bit nasty, and the R4 definitely takes the dial from a bit iffy to a bit spiffy. I almost wonder if a single tractor beam would help these guys set up their ion trickery? Because if you can manage to lock in on a target and keep others off your six, then you should be able to walk somebody off the board...
(If you decide to go all-in, check the trade thread—I’d love to swap for one of the extra sets of Resistance uniques from a Transport pack!)

20 minutes ago, LUZ_TAK said:I look at the pilot cards and see nothing that sparks my enthusiasm
Honestly, if that’s where you’re at with them, I’d say let them go. There’s plenty of other stuff in the faction, and the models often aren’t the cheapest.
I fly Republic; my buddy flies Rebels. A game or two ago, he put a decent Garven on the table. He used it well, it tanked some damage, fun was had. But he had two ARCs in 1.0 and recently decided to trade me one for some other stuff, in part because they just don’t feel as necessary/useful compared to other options. (And since I play Republic, I have the opposite problem...)
Having one would let you play around with them. But I’d say only do it if you’re truly curious. And I’d be very hesitant about getting two unless you fall in love with the one.
SpiderMana reacted to this -
Thought I’d revisit this since new stuff is coming out, and new points have been revealed. I’ve been in a scheduling pinch & X-Wing dry spell for the last few weeks, so my Resistance still hasn’t seen table time. But this might be a fun way to hit the table hard. The idea is to let Leia Rey soften whatever red maneuver needs it most in a given turn, while letting Tank Vennie do as much tanking as possible courtesy of everyone having a mobile arc. The A-Wing is basically just filler/fodder, but I’d be tempted to see if I could get some longevity out of it by rolling the big dogs right up the middle & letting them tank fire instead of just sending the A out to die.
Vennie (60)
C-3PO (6)
Veteran Turret Gunner (8)Rey (73)
Leia Organa (19)Blue Squadron Recruit (33)
Heroic (1)

I’d say, if we get him in the N1 and the Delta as part of a card pack. Let him fly literally every dang ship in the faction.

Honestly though, the more I look at it, it’s not like the Pod has a lot of potential to become a powerhouse chassis anyway. The Transport can at least pull some jank together with its abilities, slots, and durability; whereas the Pod doesn’t have as many obvious strengths.
I could easily be wrong, but I don’t think this is going to end up being a huge deal anyway.

1 minute ago, Maui. said:If you are strained, the downside to taking an eye instead of a blank is that you'd still have a strain token on your next defense, and therefore still be down a green die.
Ohhhh, gotcha. Actually that’s a good point, and it addresses my concern.
-
Wow, this is an ugly RAW situation, but I think it scans.
The question is whether it’s RAI as well. Consider that the RAW creates functionally zero downsides for adding the focus instead of the blank. Like even to @Maui.‘s point, that’s still not a downside if Finn goes from one strain, to two, and back down to one again. There’s literally never going to be a reason not to take the strain and then immediately pitch it.
So... hopefully this gets FAQed one way or the other. Do we know when the next FAQ might be coming?
EDIT: okay, it’s also worth noting that this doesn’t matter or apply in the attack case. On attack, you have a meaningful and impactful choice. On defense, you’re never more than one green token away from good times.

I didn’t realize this! That’s a good feature. I’ll keep that in mind for the future.
(Still, though... while that makes sense when you explain it, I might never have made that connection on my own because I can’t see it. What about tinting the second line slightly grey, or maybe even slightly red, so it scans quicker that that’s where the red actions are?)

It occurs to me that Diamond-Boron Missiles & Electro-Proton Bombs are only available with the Hyena... but they’re limited... and people might choose to run multiple Hyenas.
That means there are bound to be some Separatist players out there who end up with multiple copies of this new hotness, yet who would have no way to use more than one.
I don’t want to steal the thunder of the “official” swap thread, but this feels like a really specific thing that people might be up for doing some swapping to get.
As for me, I’m just gonna mention that I’m sitting on a Rebel A-Wing and a slightly dinged-up K-Wing that I have no intention of flying anytime soon...

Lol, and I was so convinced that I wasn’t gonna play Resistance in 2.0. The irony of having sent you my Resistance YT is not lost on me!
But at least I can make the excuse now that my Rebel Falcon is “scavenged” because it’s just about the only Rebel ship I’ve got left. 😝

4-Lom is better, but Zuckuss is a solid heavy puncher. -6 on him would be insane and very very broken.
2 hours ago, Cuz05 said:I like Zuck. He's good. Was a little disappointed he didn't drop.... 2?
He's too easy to stack upgrades on and kinda adds up. Without anything added, his extra dice, wonky dial and rapidly disappearing health make it a tricky 45pt to justify. Kavil plus Dorsal is 46.
I weep that Zuck (really the G-1A in general) didn’t get much help. Trick Shot seemed like it was worth considering, and it still might be, but the increased price creates some incentive to consider other options.
But, Scum complaints aside, I’m pleased with the way that FO and Resistance are looking. FO was fun but spendy; now maybe it’s just fun. And while I’m new to Resistance (still haven’t flown it in 2.0, lol), it looks a lot more viable to include one or more Scavenged YTs!

How does this preclude fun?

That’s absolutely true, but I already have the conversion kit, so it feels dumb adding a whole nother set of cardboard with a new ship.
if I wasn’t converting one, though... yeah, new ship a-go-go!

@raithos thank you for maintaining YASB! I don’t play without it!
EDIT: Can I make one request? Would there be some way to make red actions more visually distinctive? I have some vision issues with color contrast, and I’m basically unable to tell the red and black actions apart on the white background unless I zoom in super huge (which I generally don’t unless I happen to think to check).
In contrast, if it helps, I have no issues whatsoever distinguishing the maneuver colors on the slightly grey background...

I had a rough weekend full of misadventure and needed something. So I finally just said “screw it” and bought my long-awaited N-1 at the B&N.
I don’t regret it, it’s so beautiful. 😍 Embrace the Dark Side, give in to your B&N envy!
I also got to see the Resistance Transport in person, which took me from wanting one to just wanting to swap for someone’s extra unique Resistance crew if they buy more than one Transport. I hate to dump on the thing, because the model is faithful to the ship. But it’s just such a freaking ugly ship. I just... I can’t do it. 😥
