NairoD got a reaction from coastcityo in Is there room for new flotillas?
PT boats with 3 black dice on front. Nothing more.. Will buy 10 of them (I know, I'm weird but will have chance to commemorate other WWII Pacific Battles creating my fleet lists)

NairoD reacted to Drasnighta in Armada trade thread
The Sentry Box Fortnightly League has recently come to acquire the following:
3x Imperial Symbol Dice Bags
12x TIE Fighter Alt Arts
10x Leading Shots Alt Arts
3x Sets of FFG Acrylic Navigate Tokens
I'd be open to swapping some of these with other Alt-Arts that are floating around, mostly so I have some different spot prizes to give out for leagues...
Can also trade Imperial Phoenix Hobby Works painting Credits

NairoD reacted to SkyCake in are we in an intergalactic "battle of midway/sink the bismarck" era?
No expert, no sample size, no proof, but here's my two cents
In wave 2, with a ryhmer ball I never felt threatened by rebel squads... Intel gave me the choice of attacking ships or attacking fighters... rebels didn't bring clouds of b wings, they brought a mix of x's, a's, and y's and those ships are meh to ok at bombing... y's are heavy, you can slip right past em, x's red bombing die lol, a wings counter useless since Intel means I never have to attack you... so you could just bring an imperial bomber heavy force with little to no anti-squadron fighters and be fine... and if your rebel opponent brought fighters, no big deal, if he didn't, no big deal...
Fast forward to wave three/four(thor)
BEES EVERYWHERE!!! and boy do those stings hurt! As an imperial, you can bring bombers like you use to sure, and still bomb ships if you want with Intel... but the rebel crackback is so much harsher now, you sort of can't ignore that b wing force and let it do it's thing because you will lose that race... also, he can use his bees to shoot down your forces with ease... 1.5 damage b wing vs. 0.75 TIE bomber.... add in toryn farr enhancing damage output, Jan ors decreasing damage taken, and tie's having heavy so that damaged bees can move out and sub in healthy bees while TIEs have to stay in place, and it's fairly easy to see the rebels have a clear advantage here...
So what to do... the quandary, oh the quandary... because if you now mix in some anti squadron and take out some anti ship you are going against imperial squadron methodology that says either a tie it's a bomber or a tie it's a fighter, not both... and so if you want to bomb bring bombers and if you want to fight, bring fighters, and don't mix, because neither will be done well... whereas b wings has essentially no drawbacks in this regard... lots of hull, no heavy, great against squads, best anti ship in the game, and now no speed drawback....
If you go all fighters as imperial, when you run into the no squads list you have wasted a ton of points... not only are they ineffective against ships, they die quick to any Flak...
One of the best counters I see therefore is demsu... just say, I'm not even going to play your squad game and instead just try to blow up a carrier... or give your bombers too many targets to choose from... and if I can blow up a mc80 and get enough obj points, I might be able to eek out a win...
But I dunno, that's just my two cents, but I think we are in the b wing era if anything

NairoD reacted to Maturin in are we in an intergalactic "battle of midway/sink the bismarck" era?
I don't think we can quite definitively declare that "Squadrons RULE!!!" yet. However, what I think is becoming clear is that we are in a time of doctrinal change. Which indeed is analogous to the early WWII era to which you're referring.
Certainly naval air doctrine shifted throughout the course of the war for those nations with significant air power. At various times, nations were sending out ships without air cover (early war), sending ships out with limited air cover (single carrier early Atlantic), air cover that consisted largely of strike craft (see Bismark), air cover that was fighter-heavy (late USN Pacific), concentrated carrier heavy-fleets with balanced air cover (IJN's Kido Butai), etc.
Analogues of all of the above can be found in successful lists people are playing today. Which model will be best? We're still finding out!
What a grand time to play Armada!

NairoD reacted to GiledPallaeon in are we in an intergalactic "battle of midway/sink the bismarck" era?
I have to raise the point that in my own meta I've had decent enough success running ISD-1s (so Bismarck, since they aren't quite so flawed as Hood and not one giant floating series of compromises like KGV) with Raiders (so the Nurnberg or Konigsberg class light cruisers) and pure space superiority fighter wings. Bombers don't have to rule the board if you invest in the ability to savage them. Screens of Interceptors, Advanced and Fighters provide nice deployment padding, aren't totally worthless against ships, and carefully flown Raiders can devastate both ships and hapless bombers with ease, while the Imperial runs around running things over and hurling absurd dice figures. A more apt comparison might be the balance of naval power during the Cold War, where the US Navy, Royal Navy, and Soviet VMF all invested in both aircraft carriers (of various roles and strategies, this is an oversimplification) and heavy surface combatants.

Solo play will be best. That way you'll always win.

NairoD reacted to Democratus in Corellian Conflict best with only 2 players?
It's a fun framework for Armada battles, giving meaning to victories and losses.
It will be as casual as you choose to make it. After all, it's just tabletop spaceships.

NairoD reacted to Drasnighta in Corellian Conflict best with only 2 players?
You're overthinking it.
When none of the actual mechanics have been spoiled yet in reagards to fleet composition, the mechanics for repair, replace, death, etc, etc, etc, its impossible to make an actual informed view on it.

NairoD reacted to Liher in Ship speed analyse - RAYDER
I have just done some test to see more clearly how does the Raider turn. If there is not much space left in the board to turn, is it better to advance at speed 3 or 4?
4 is better.
Grey speed 4
Pink speed 3
Green Speed 2
Red Speed 1.
All start at 6 o'clock

It's interesting to me how things vary SO much by location of play.

Seeing an Imperial list without those two is only slightly more rare than seeing a Reb list without TRC or Ackbar.

NairoD reacted to Hastatior in Hey guys, does the mc30 torpedo need to have initiative to work?
The MC30 is a lovely ship but I think anyone who knows how to use it well can use it well either first or second. The key is using it well!
Takes a bunch of practice and craft unless you naturally take to it in your play style. I think its important to be very aware of what role you are expecting the ship to play in your fleet. If they have to do the heavy lifting, or if you use it to threaten a flank with its crazy speed.

NairoD reacted to Lyraeus in Hey guys, does the mc30 torpedo need to have initiative to work?
Simple answer? No.
You need to have plans though to make it work. Blocking ships is a way to go about it.

NairoD reacted to Ginkapo in =THE NEXT ARMADA EVENT ON VASSAL= Semi-Final Match-Ups
WAWY, you have something quite wrong! I made multiple errors too! The difference was in the errors. I could have played better to keep the flotillas more useful and prevent hwks dying. However, all my errors were created by the singular goal of not letting you hurt my mc80 flagship. Without those points it would be very hard to win.
You seemed to have a lack of focus. Your fighters were set on killing mine, but refused to shoot the hwks because of their counter.
The raider and demo were definite lack of second player mistakes.
I also noticed something else. You spent hours atagonising over movements, which for the most part didnt actually matter that much. (Speed up, recognise when it doesnt matter). However, you placed obstacles really quickly. The inverted V of obstacles favoured me massively. Its about using thought when it matters, and not stressing over the small stuff.
All that said, I normally wouldnt post such critism, especially as you played well, but you appear to be blaming yourself without recognising the bigger picture.

NairoD reacted to NebulonB in Quick report on German Nationals
Quick report on the German Nationals held today (mainly German-speaking countries, but now open to all nationalities).
We had 21 players, rather disappointing for the players and the TO (who is a very nice guy doing a great job), so we only had 3 games and no final cut of two. Location was not a big city, going there takes some effort, I think that played into it. There were more than 30 online sign ups.
The atmosphere was very relaxed, very friendly and collegial (something I really like Armada for), while the level of play was rather high in the opinion of the players I talked to, and I certainly agree. I saw a very healthy variety of lists, but bombers definitly dominated the scene. Only wave three was tourney legal (available in German, a prerequisite rule here, while wave 4 is only available in English right now...I would ditch that rule, btw), so no FCT and such, but flotillas where on many lists to accompany bombers.
Well, as for the winner, some of you might be a bit surprised (admit it): 8 Gozantis commanded by Tarkin, 6 Tie bombers + the good Major, 4 ordinary Ties, one Jump Master and Dengar, clocking in at 399 points.
Second place went to a VSD, 2 Gozantis, a Raider, 10 Tie bombers, a Jumpmaster and Dengar. They faced each other on the top table in round 3. Well done guys.
VP-wise it was close, winner with 25 pts. 9 players were between 25 and 20 points.
Myself I placed 8th, with two initial wins to go to third (good game, guys, none of those wins was easy to get), but then losing to a clever moving player with a fully equipped assault MC80 under Ackbar, an AF, a flotilla and 7 squads (no rogues). I foolishly chose advanced gunnery to avoid contested outpost and superior position, thinking I can manouver my way out of a pickle with a 5 ship activation advantage. I would have, but forgot advanced gunnery and the second assault cruiser ackbar shot got me with exactly the damage needed. Lando did his best to mitigate the first shot. What made it really bad was that I gave advanced gunnery to the destroyed Admonition....losing out double. Could have sneaked into the aft arc of the MC80, but my opponent moved very cleverly, knowing I had to come to him, went to the edge of the map, I could not flank and Admo would have faced multiple turns against Ackbar broadsides from two ships had I gone to the board edge. It was a bit of luck to get Admo, but very strategic thinking overall.
Squads wer almost everywhere, when no bombers then for example 8 A wings or my 4 yt2400+Dash+Tycho. In all my games I had fewer squads than my opponents.
What I did not see was Demolishers. A few played glads, but I dont know if they were Demolishers. In any case not many, but still top two went to Empire, and also third and fith place. Tie bombers are dirt cheap, and with multiple bcc rerolls, you get something out of them.
One negative point: Price support was a shame for a National. 3 Vader cards for everyone, objective tokens, rulers. Not even a second alternate art card for the top 4 or something.
Conclusion: A very nice Armada day, friendly and good players throughout, good TO, thx all!
PS:Sorry for anything I might have remembered wrongly.

NairoD got a reaction from Maturin in Tokyo Express List
Hi
Hawkstrike hope he servive battle. (To be honest war is discusting and oj my moron want to kill other human). I glue this list together to commemorate those night battle. I admire Tanaka as commander, nothing more.
Today i wasnt lucky as Tanaka. First battle i Player against my friend Maciek. He have packed Imperial, Gladiator, 3*Raider I Was second as he outbid me. We played dangerous Teritory. Maciek puf bis Imperial on my right wing and test in line between nim and Last Gladiator.
In First round we Both gather objectives that granted 45p for Both od us. Then i send clean Raider to meet bis destiny with Gladiator (na have Job to atract gladiator and but Time for the rest of my fleet to make Good position to strike. My gladiator składa attack on ten rear od imperial. It put presure I want that squeez him between my rider line (2 with APT and one with CM) and his riders. He Was sure that he will cope with this small amount of dice attacs. He forget about those nasty crit effects.
In next Sound i wash out his 2 Raiders and damage Gladiator. in meantime I lost 2 raiders. To the rest of the game I was decelerating an turning trying to catch remnants of his fleet. 7-4
Second game I Run against Wawrzyniec. He is Veteran Player. He have Imperial II, Victory and Gladiator, 2 firespray nad 2 agressors. We played Hyperspace Assault. I squeez my Raiders in formation one by one with screed Raider behind them. On turn 2 i moved in such manner to have his jump points in front od me. In turn 3 i Rushed with all raiders to firma on round 4. Those knife fight Was bloody. I lost 2 raiders nad gladiator. My opponent lost gladiator, Victory and Gressor. One firespray Was left on 1hp. Game ended 5-6 in my favour (difference Was only about 19pts)
Third game I starter but have to give up and run back Home to my Little Son, he feel sick (he have high temperature). I hope we will Play again. Together we deployed 14 ships on board.
