I have really struggled to find the single cards on ebay and would love to find another sneak attack etc
  3. You're right Pocket. That's what I meant to say. Thanks for the clarification! Let ask another question that's popped into my head just now (sitting here playing as I read the forums): I only have the base set, and so far I've only tried the tactics deck against the Mirkwood quest. I'm on my 3rd attempt, and have yet to be able to beat the "Flies and Spiders" quest. Each attempt has ended in me losing all of my heroes in battle before I can place the 8 progress tokens on the quest to advance to 2a. Does the tactics deck just plain suck? Or do I suck? Or is it a combination of both? Why does everyone continue playing tactics even when they know there are 3 other spheres they haven't tried yet other than the one that gave them patethic defeat 8 times i na row? Why rant in a post at a new player without offering any help or even minutely offering any kind of advice. Better to retain someones interest by helping rather than slagging them off, just a thought !!

    Questions from a new player

Youtube is your friend, check through these forums and look at the following for some info on playing solo and what to buy etc, I have read forums and topics until my eyes ache but it helps learn all about this game and also dive in and play the solo decks it's how you learn about the cards and synergies before you start building your own decks. http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/16397/guide-new-lotrlcg-solo-players https://talesfromthecards.wordpress.com/2013/09/13/new-player-buying-guide/

It is not impossible but difficult to complete the initial scenario with the tactics deck. I have beaten the initial scenario with Lore, Leadership and Spirit solo decks (leadership seemed easiest). I have now made a multi sphere deck to try again on initial scenario before giving it a bash against Journey down the Anduin. I am trying to play this game in some type of order but as a collector/hoarder I have already bought the full Mirkwood cycle, Khazad Dum deluxe and a few of the Saga boxes. All as yet unopened until I am ready to dive in. Try the link below for advice about solo play. http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/16397/guide-new-lotrlcg-solo-players

Trials and tribulations of a nube....

I have struggled big time with the 1st scenario in Core Set using Lore and Tactics but beat it with both the Leadership and Spirit decks, the latter only just. I too only recently started and not sure if I am ready to try 2nd scenario yet. I also don't know whether to go mono sphere for this or build a deck from Core Set. I have also downloaded the following, which were made to play Core Set with (found from boardgamegeek). Ninjadorg's LOTR: LCG scenarios

I also only play solo but unlike you have only played once and failed miserably in the first scenario. Sadly I am a bit of a geek hoarder/collector and already purchased Over Hill and Under Hill, Khazad-dum, Black Riders and the first two AP's from Mirkwood cycle. My plan initially is to try all spheres solo against first scenario then mix them up. I have not opened the AP's yet to look at the cards as I am sure where to put them all. I like to keep sets and things seperate but that may not be viable with this game or I will have boxes everywhere. Good luck anyway.

    New player finally getting in

I have also just played my very first scenario in the Core Set. I chose my deck to play randomly and pulled the Leadership deck. Probably took longer than I thought it would to play as I was flicking around the rules a lot. I would say the first half went smoothly enough but I took some damage. Finally got the final part and drew Ungoliant Spawn followed a turn later by Hummerhorns when my threat was going to be 40 next turn. I then drew a few locations over next few turns which prevented me from making progress as I could not get past the location I had traveled too. All in all it was fail on my first attempt, I may have got some things wrong but I will re read the rules etc and try again. Maybe it was a combination of cruel cards and inexperience but I enjoyed the experience, learn and try again.

    Finally getting started.

Forced reaction: When a new expansion is released every player raises threat by 5 and lets the gaming store dig into his wallet. Agree totally, such a money sink, I can't stop myself. Next step storage solutions

Thanks for the responses guys. I will find some time over the weekend to start learning and ex ring. I have set my sights on the next 3 AP, s from Mirkwood cycle and also dropping into my shopping trolley Khazadum and over hill and ubder hill. Hopefully that should give me a reasonably good start in life. Unfortunately I'm a collector and hoarder so I feel there will be some serious damage done to wallet over the next few months..

    Finally getting started.

Another new player hijacking the thread, sorry OP. As a new latecomer to this game I would like to ask if the core set pre made decks are enough to complete the the first 3 scenarios. I ordered the Core set and Hunt for Gollum AP. I have also picked out the next 3 AP's from Mirkwood cycle and The Hobbit Over Hill and Under Hill as my next purchase, Am I on target with these buys or should I re address my purchasing focus, cheers.
