Curious to see how this went for you. I used your list as a jumping off point and thought of the following as another similar possibility.

    "Howlrunner" — TIE Fighter 40
    Crack Shot 1
    Stealth Device 8
    Ship Total: 49

Iden Versio — TIE Fighter 40
    Crack Shot 1
    Ship Total: 41

"Scourge" Skutu — TIE Fighter 32
    Crack Shot 1
    Ship Total: 33

Darth Vader — TIE Advanced 70
    Instinctive Aim 2
    Cluster Missiles 5

    Ship Total: 77

Sadly, only managed to squeeze a single game this past Sunday. Sadly, Inferno blew up against Wedge/Luke/Thane but it was such a cool, nail-biting and really close match! Luke can really take a beating and just refuse to die. It was the wrong ship to leave for the end game, so a rather big mistake on my part.

I think Howlrunner definitelly is a must, much more so than Hask. Does mean it's another Init5 pilot there, which seems like quite a crowded slot at the moment, plus with such a low bid, I' will probably be getting initiative often. In any case, having a chance to shoot first was actually not that bad, although I missed some of the repositioning element, I'm used to when flying aces. Deal with it, I guess :D

I'm sticking with this semi-Inferno+Soontir for a bit and keep at it. At the moment, I'm only 3 games in, so it'll be good to have a bit more practice with formation flying, breaking formation, reforming, etc.

  2. I thought of doing a separate topic but I remembered there was at least another one of these discussing Xwing in Brazil.

I'm close to moving there (to S. Paulo to be more exact) for an extended period of time, so was keen on taking my hobby along with me :)

Was wondering if there had been any changes to the situation there towards the end of 1.0, or if things still relied on the player community there.

Would be good if 2.0 helped set things straight now.

  3. So I'm using 2.0 to try my hand at flying a mini swarm. I really wanted to give the Inferno Squad a go, so tried it this week. Original list was:

    Soontir's Inferno

    (52) Soontir Fel
    (7) Hull Upgrade
    (2) Predator
    Points 61

    (40) Iden Versio
    (1) Crack Shot
    Points 41

    (30) Del Meeko
    (1) Crack Shot
    Points 31

    (30) Seyn Marana
    (1) Marksmanship
    Points 31

    (30) Gideon Hask
    (1) Crack Shot
    Points 31

    Total points: 195

Have only played with it twice and it's been really fun. The synergies between the Infernos are really cool and Soontir is his usual awesome self.

Have been thinking, though, if this could be somewhat improved with Howlrunner, in place of Hask. Dropping Hask and Hull from Soontir would do it, for 197 pts (Howl w/ crackshot).

Planning to give it a go over the weekend and see if it is markedly better.

Happy to hear from the hive mind, though :)

Can someone post the top 4 lists? It looks like Ben was using a Lambda so I assume he was playing Palp aces.

Top 4 was Palp Aces (Yorr,QD, Inquisitor), Nym Miranda, Ghost Fenn and Chiraneau/Quickdraw

    Thanks for everyones comments.

I've shown these to my son and while he sees the points raised, he's happy with his build as it suits his play style. He may try some of the builds after his first tournament.

I guess that's what the community is all about - Getting helpful advice and comments and then deciding what to go for.

His first tournie is Monday and he already knows that at least 2 people from English (UK?) team for Euros will be there.

He is a mix of excited about it and worried about facing players of this calibre.

There are five games. He's hoping (praying?) that he gets one win.

I've told him to just enjoy himself, concentrate and learn. If he gets beaten, speak to the other player about what each did, what went wrong etc. Perhaps more so if he wins a game. Above all fly casual!

Don't suppose it'll be the comp in Woking, this coming bank holiday, here in the UK?

Seems to fit that description :)

Looking at the attendees, seems like he'll be meeting a friendly bunch of people that will be more than happy to bring him into the community and give plenty of tips and advice (myself included).

  6. Big fan of the Strikers myself and I really like it. Looks like a fun list actually.
Could think of Trickshot on ol' Sabacc there as an alternative to Determination but otherwise, give it a go! Seems like a great way to say goodbye to 1.0 ☺️

  7. I've been having fun with variations on the below (I've tinkered around with upgrades and I'm debating swapping the Aggressor for the gunship when it comes out):

"Zeta Leader" - Wired, Weapons Guidance, Twin Ion Engine

"Double-Edge" - Deadeye, Synced Turret, Lightweight Frame, Unguided Rockets

"Pure Sabacc" - Expertise, Adaptive Ailerons and lightweight Frame

    "Backstabber" - Stealth Device

I wanted to try and do an Imperial toolbox type thing lol...

I like to keep a bit of a loose formation (still something I need to work on) and have Sabacc do the flanking. If he's left alone long enough, he can be such a ******:)

PS - I know they aren't ps10, but since you're looking at 4 ship builds...

Yeah, that's my worry as well.  It's becoming all action at expense of writing and character.  One of my favourite non-battle scenes so far this year was in the very first episode, with Thoros, Beric and Clegane as they travelled North.  We're missing a lot of the little interactions between characters, that have helped make the series so great.  Just look at Brienne, for example.  She's been in all of, what, three 2 minute scenes so far this year?

There's only two episodes left this season.  If they'd done the usual ten they could have kept all the action but added a bit more dialogue, a few more personal moments between characters.  In the last episode alone there could have been a reunion between Tyrion and Bronn and a discussion between Mormont and Jon at the very least.

I do miss some of those and the series began with some nice moments early on.

It bugs me a bit to have these fast travel options pop up as the plot requires them, when it just took forever earlier on for this or that character to get anywhere, but hey...
I still loved some of the specific interactions. The meeting between Tyrion and Jaime was quite good, as well as that introduction between Gendry and Jon. But these come and go really fast now.
I used to find Baelish an interesting character "back in the day", although now he just comes across as annoying (yesterday, the only thing left was for him to twirl his mustache and snigger).

If she had said Rhaegar he would have exploded, imo.

I think she said Rhaegar didn't she?

Really liked the episode. From now on, don't really care what happens south of the Wall anymore. Happy to stick with the Suicide Squad as long as possible.

Is it just me or does everyone now just goes around in"fast travel" mode in general?

  10. I have him with Expertise, Ion Turret and LWF (paired with Ruthless TIE D Vessery and Omega Leader).

Expertise to try and free up the focus token and Ion Turret to try and help with control. It's still a pricey investment though.

  11. Had some fun pairing Nym with Emon for some bombing insanity.

    Twins (98)

    Captain Nym (40) - Scurrg H-6 Bomber
Veteran Instincts (1), Synced Turret (4), Bomblet Generator (3), Havoc (0), Fire Control System (2), "Genius" (0)

    Emon Azzameen (58) - Firespray-31
Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Proximity Mines (3), Cad Bane (2), Slave I (0), Engine Upgrade (4), Extra Munitions (2), Conner Net (4)

Still trying out different ordnance options on the Firespray... It's been fun playing this out. Emon is pretty crazy and tends to be the main target in the few games I played.

Nym has been surprisingly resilient in the end game.

@bahourmat Did you find engine on Emon was critical? Wondering how often I will want to have boosted versus bomb, focus, TL...

Well, now that you mention it, don't think it was that critical. Had me run up he board a bit faster in the opening turns, but not much else. Might try swapping it over to Nym or just getting something else entirely.

  13. I gave this a try this past week, as I wanted to give Nym a go, plus I never play bombs.

    Twins (99)

    Captain Nym (40) - Scurrg H-6 Bomber
Veteran Instincts (1), Synced Turret (4), Bomblet Generator (3), Havoc (0), Fire Control System (2), "Genius" (0)

    Emon Azzameen (59) - Firespray-31
Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Cluster Mines (4), Cad Bane (2), Slave I (0), Engine Upgrade (4), Conner Net (4), Extra Munitions (2)

Won against Decoy Vader/Vess/Zeta Leader. Want to  keep at it and maybe even run it at a tournament this next month.

    Was fun to fly.

    What about:

    Dalan Oberos

    • PTL
    • Advanced Sensors
    • Cloaking device
    • Starviper M2
    • Virago

Try Predicting that mess of mind boggling repositioning abilities!

Completely useless for anything else much though. PTL on a starviper isn't that great.

I'd love to try this, just so I can spend half a game with poor Oberos facing the wrong way.

  15. The community I play is fairly ok with proxying stuff, in general. There is an X-wing night where you can pretty much bring what you want (there are not rules as such). However, "casual" does mean you follow X-wing's "basic" rules, so you won't have someone coming along with a RAC+Fen list or something like that (although I personally find it odd people figuring "casual" to mean that, but ok...)

I've already tried some of the GfH box, particularly the Starviper's new title, but I always bring 2/3 lists to try out anyway, but usually people were keen on playing against it. People are always quick to point out if they're looking to practice for tournaments and such. In the end, people talk to each other and decide on it, usually on the spot anyway.

We also have a local league and, for those, there was agreement on only proxying released stuff (ie, you don't need to have the cards, can just print out your list). So, at the moment, nothing from Guns for Hire is "legal" on the league games.

  16. Not sure what to make of it, tbh. I've had only limited play time with both the named pilots.

I really like Double Edge's double-tap (have him w/ synched turret + unguided). Yesterday, had him face up against a Dengar/IG list but he happily melted before getting a shot (a bit of poor movement on my part and cold dice, plus Dengar being his usual consistent self).

  17. Liked this. The bit of editing on poor Sam's "A Clash of Bedpans" was pretty funny.

The opening scene was a nice "f*** yeah" moment as well.

Overall, I actually liked that there seemed to be a few call backs to the themes in a Feast for Crows (the one without all the blood and gore). Particularly enjoyed both Arya's (yeah, Sheeran didn't bother me tbh) and the Hound's scenes to drive home the way the game of thrones is all well and good, as long as you're not a peasant or a grunt being shat on by all the lords and ladies.

Also enjoyed Sansa's little moment with Littlefinger. That "No need to have the last word, Lord Baelish. I'll pretend it was something clever." quote was great.

  18. Like the idea of Deadeye on Double Edge. Came to the same conclusion yesterday after taking him out for a spin! :)

Hadn't thought of running two of them just yet.

As a personal choice I would probably take BD just because I think he's great. However, Ryad might be the better pick.
