  1. To comment on the production concerns, we now know of two games that are done for FFG...both Imperial Assault and Runewars have gone the way of the dinosaurs. From the outside looking in, it would appear to me FFG was taking a serious inventory of their game lineup and armada may have been something they were considering chopping...clearly we survived and in a big way. We may have still seen some modest support with campaign boxes and the like, but honestly I think they are running out of material for GCW era and they were discussing “do we continue into another era with the other games or do we let armada stay a GCW game and cease production of new ships”. I wouldn’t be shocked if Disney helped this decision along considering the massive popularity of their cartoon work in the Star Wars realm and the return of the clone wars cartoon. These of course are totally my assumptions and based in 0 discernible fact. That said, as someone who loves this game and the tactical depth it plays at, I honestly couldn’t be more excited. There are always complaints about game length and squadron play, but ultimately to cut any of those layers of depth out would change the game into something I just wouldn’t love as much. This is space chess, on crack, riding a Pegasus, with a laser cannon in one arm and a princess in the other, all in a universe filled with good and evil space wizards determined to destroy each other....and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The new factions could be setup to give us the ability for some of the materials to crossover(pelta, arquitens, Vic), the 2 new GCW ships could also be crossover candidates and really quickly we could be looking at 2 new viable factions in competitive play when you add a core and a wave of expansions that includes a fighter pack per side. I say all this to say I think our game is in a great place and I’m equal parts excited for all of it. Parity may take a bit of time, but there is going to be so many new ways to play that I can see myself very satisfied for a very long while.
  2. Same, but part of that is because I bought two cores.
  3. Honestly the hold up for Armada getting a clone wars announcement may have been addressing some of these concerns people are mentioning. They did say during the Q&A that the Republic and Separatists will be new factions which implies to me they will be standalone, I would not be shocked to see some upgrades that run across all 4 factions(the same way we currently have them across 2), but not sure about cross faction ships. I’m more interested to see just how much stuff they may have prepared to release in this first year for clone wars. For the new factions to be viable they will need a pretty quick influx of materials so fingers crossed 2020 may be the biggest release window of armada ever, but most likely at least as big as its first year...as a fan of the game I couldn’t be happier!
  4. So I’m assuming I just take the linked pdf and print one of those 3 templates at 73mm x 356mm and I’m golden?
  5. Any chance someone has dimensions they could share for the firing arcs on the SSD? I have a prototype base I made, but looking around I can’t find arc measurements anywhere. Did you just eyeball the arcs based on photos/vid of SSD or does someone actually have some numbers, hoping to playtest this with a buddy this weekend!
  6. I can totally understand the concerns about balancing an SSD in this game. That doesn't mean I necessarily believe it impossible, just unlikely from the perspective we currently have for points. I still believe it's coming, but find myself leaning more in the direction of it being a campaign box style release. I have to agree with Admiral Calkins, the beast of choice for "something big" will almost certainly be the Executor before it's likely to be anything else. I do agree with Triangular that Imperials could really stand to have a low points small based ship to create a little more points parity between imperial and rebel lists, it's no secret or surprise that the tournament scene seems to be very Rebel heavy at the top.
  7. This is kinda what I was suspecting on the MS-1 the question just came up and I thought I would see what everyone else was thinking on it. How about the Suppressor title?
  8. Hey all, just wondering how everyone else is playing these two cards! For Suppressor from what I can gather there is no exhaust mechanic for the upgrade title itself meaning you can gain it's effect on every enemy ship that moves into distance 1-3 of your flotilla. Everyone else playing that the same way? For the MS-1 Ion Cannons I'm fully expecting a blurb in the next F.A.Q unless I've just missed something somewhere, but it just says any one of the defending ships upgrade cards? It doesn't state it has to be an upgrade that is normally exhausted for use. Is everyone else seeing this as exhausting XI-7s, APT, Ordinance and so on? For that matter Admirals? I suspect this will see some kind of wording change to state it has to be an upgrade that would normally be exhausted for use like ECM, or Intel Officer. Any input?
  9. But what use would the LoS dots be if not for this exact situation? You're pretty much advocating for an arc-only system, which I think would take away quite a bit of the depth that makes maneuvering a challenge in this game. Gods remember when people would just measure Dot to Dot never checking arc. . . I still have some people who have not played in some time doing that. . . I've said it before and I'm still a 100% advocate for changing firing eligibility to just a LOS check. A shot is possible when dot-to-dot measurement only passes through the firing and target arc. In the pic above, the VSD could fire at the AF's side arc, not the AF's front. It's infinitely easier and quicker to execute, visualize, document, and teach. I've never met a player who has only read the rules, including the RRG and FAQ, but hasn't read these forums and hasn't been instructed by someone who has, that knows how to properly check target eligibility. The overall change would speed up play, make it easier to understand, and allow for more firing, which I feel are all great. Wider firing arcs would also be more impressive, as they should be. This change would make double-arcing dramatically easier, and thus require rebalancing of basically every ship. What you said 100 times over, the system is simple; Arc Check, Range Check, LOS check......the biggest struggle I still have is having to explain that I can draw LOS through my own arc lines just not theirs.
  10. Just read through the whole thread and noticed no one had mentioned this in any of their examples. When you flip your dial you have to determine right then whether or not you will be using the dial or taking the token, the difference being speed and yaw for the dial and just speed or yaw for the token. The G-8 makes for an interesting effect in this circumstance, especially playing into a fleet that wants to maneuver and drift like crazy.
  11. I assume your running it without the flotillas at regionals?
  12. I was your Georgia opponent and that was a terrible collection of objectives, but hindsight being 20/20 I wish I had tried my luck with superior positions(thanks for the new firing lanes trick though!). It was still great fun and great competition with a bunch of guys who understand it is ultimately still a game in a universe we all love, it was so nice to see friendly, fair and competitive play the way it's meant to be done. I will be coming back up from Augusta next year and hopefully I can give you a better run!
