See, Blaise and Terro are probably really good if you're trying to be really competitive, but I like how the Nemesis class also just lets us players who want to create a thematic and story driven experience have an easy way to gain a few villains for our story.

That's a pretty good question.
I think that since choosing open groups is a stage at the beginning of a mission, and in the Introduction that stage isn't so much skipped as it is "Choose out of the zero possibilities that you have."

It's a subtle difference, but I guess it makes sense.  If I'm wrong, though, I should probably know, since we're starting a new campaign soon.

Boba wouldn't be the most strategic choice, but the Nemesis deck is probably the easiest way to bring him in now, and he is a lot of fun as far as theme goes.  Nothing strikes fear into Rebel hearts like Boba Fett of Vader.

Working on some of these too now, inspired by you guys.  I've taken some pretty big creative liberties, so I don't know if these might be contradicted by canon, or even the game itself.  If you have any thouhts on how I could fix them, let me know!  So far, I've just done the core box.  Be warned, there are some minor spoiler-ish implications in these- nothing too big, but I guess I could see how some people would want a spoiler warning here. Also, Rogue One spoilers in here as well, so watch out for that.:

I've decided against Armored Onslaught and have chose Nemesis for my upcoming RtH campaign.
I'm thinking about bringing Jabba and the GI.  Jabba seems like he'll be really important, because he can get me extra threat in missions, can give my mercs extra attacks (especially with that one merc who shows up a lot in RtH...) and nets me extra influence if he's around at the end of the mission.

Pretty excited about this one.

Death troopers would be great, but they could just as easily get a blister set.

But ok, let's say that we do get a Rogue One big box.  Here's how I'd think it could be realistically implemented, just for fun.  I think it'd be more like Return to Hoth, where we're visiting the sites after the film's events, rather than having a campaign within the confines of a single conflict:

Spoilers for Rogue One- sorry, having trouble finding out how to do spoiler tags on the new forum setup

The biggest problem with Rogue One is the Death Star- it pretty much closes shop wherever it goes.  So, while I could maybe see an introductory mission on Scarif during the actual battle, and maybe a return there later in the campaign to find info on other superweapons in the wreckage of the citadel, I don't see reason for any more than two missions there.  Still, the tiles for beaches could be used for other planets like Kashyyyk, too.

Since 6 campaign missions is pretty standard for a big box, that leaves us with 4 missions on Jedha. I could definitely see us working with the remnant of Saw's Partisans a little,  I think the desert setting is getting pretty tired in IA.  Maybe some more urban/desert tiles could help this a little.

Maybe the biggest issue with my campaign is that it's all pretty much post- Rogue One, so Jyn and Chirrut and friends wouldn't really be part of it.  I have included some of the Rogue One heroes in the intro mission.  I suppose players can choose to earn them in other campaigns if they want, and of course they're free game for skirmish.

So, here's my idea of a Rogue One-style campaign:
Intro- The Battle of Scarif
Scarif
Rebel heroes (along with Baze and Chirrut) must hold out against overwhelming Imperial troops for 6 turns.  After that, they have 2 turns to get to the Entrance.  Any Rebel hero that doesn't make it (or all Rebel heroes, if all get wounded) cannot be used during the rest of the campaign.  The Death Star kills them all.  Their players must choose new characters.  These characters do not receive the XP from the intromission.  Baze and Chirrut cannot go to The Entrance.

Side Mission 1

Story Mission 2A (Rebel Victory in Intro)-  Change of Heart
Jedha
Rebel heroes must attempt to recruit Saw's remnant to the Alliance.  Win Partisan troopers as allies if successful

Forced Mission- Basic Training (Imperial Victory in Intro)
Yavin IV
The new Rebel Heroes must face off against holograms of Imperial Units, allowing the Rebels to make up some XP.

Story Mission 2B -Vengance- (Played after Basic Training)
Tatooine
Rebel heroes must go to Mos Eisley and cause a distraction in the streets (desert/urban tiles) to draw the Empire's attention away from the DS plan droids.

Side Mission 2

Side Mission 3

Interlude- Making Examples
Kashyyyk
Furious at losing the Death Star plans, the Empire is beginning to take out its frustrations on native populations.  The Rebels must help hold Kashyyyk against Imperial retribution.  The Rebels receive Gaarkhan's skirmish card as an ally, named Taruowa.  If the Rebels already have Gaarkhan in their party, use either a Wookie Warrior mini or the Chewbacca mini/token.
At one point during the mission, the Rebels must decide whether to hunt down an Imperial Officer for interrogation, or head back to village to protect the wookies against a second wave.

Story Mission 3A- Hearts of Kyber (If Officer was successfully interrogated)
Jedha
The Empire is sifting through the wreckage of Jedha City to recover the lost Kyber there to fuel their superweapon.  The Rebels must stop them.

Story Mission 3B- Cloak and Dagger (If Officer interrogation failed, or Heroes chose to save Wookies)
Ring of Kahfrene
The Alliance is crumbling.  It seems that Cassian Andor had been been concerned with more than just the Death Star superweapon.  Search his apartment on the Ring of Kahfrene (desert urban/ merc tiles) to find out what he was worried about.

Side Mission 4

Side Mission 5

Story Mission 4A- Boots Wet (If won on SM3A)
Scarif
The Rebels have landed on the surface of Scarif once more, looking for info on other Imperial superweapon projects.  They must sift through the ashes to find the hidden bunker beneath where the Citadel once stood, while holding out against trooper assaults.

Story Mission 4B- Shields Up (If lost on SM3A)
Shield Well
The Empire has repaired the shield well around scarif.  The Rebels have docked in it, and must power it down before landing on the planet.

Story Mission 4C- Save the Dream (If won on SM3B)
Jedha
The data held in Cassian's apartment points to an Imperial informant being on the planet Jedha.  While it's unlikely he's still there, perhaps clues could be held in the caves of the late Saw Guerara.

Story Mission 4D- Wisdom of the Wookies (If lost on SM3B)
Kashyyyk
Beaten at every turn, the Rebels feel as if they're no closer to preventing disaster than when they started.  Feeling entirely without purpose, the Rebels head back to Kashyyyk to help their wookie allies- while there, they meet a shaman who changes their fates.

Finale A- Stardust (If won SM4A or SM4B, or lost SM4A)
Scarif
Half of the Rebel heroes must infiltrate the Citadel bunker while the other half must hold the door to prevent Imperial reinforcements from disturbing them.  Imperial forces cannot enter the bunker as long as at the half the number of healthy Rebel heroes rounded down is within three spaces of the bunker door.  A rebel hero at the bunker door may choose to head into the bunker to assist with the search- however, making the bunker vulnerable.

Finale B- (If the Heroes won SMBC or SM4D, or Lost SM4B)
The Force is With Me
The rebel heroes learn of an imminent attack on the planet Alderaan and head there to help try to evacuate civillians.  While performing any attribute test during this mission, a hero may use either their own skills or the skills of a hero previously killed in the Introduction of the campaign.  On victory, the Rebel heroes escape.  On defeat, they die with the planet.

Finale C- Last Ditch (If the Heroes lost SM4C or SM4D)
Death Star
The Death Star is headed toward the Rebel Base of Yavin IV.  While the Rebels have launched a few small squadrons in an attempt to destroy the base, it falls to the Rebel heroes to try to infiltrate the superstation and nerf its defenses.  On victory, the Rebels shut down turbolasers in several areas of the trench and escape the Death Star.  On defeat, they're blown up when the Death Star explodes.

Just to throw this out there, too- I'd imagine the painter wasn't purposefully trying to screw you over, but that you're simply not happy with his work that he has to offer.

What I mean is this- I can buy a hamburger from McDonalds on their Dollar Menu (though I think they might be a little over a dollar now, because inflation sucks).  Will I like the burger?  Meh, it'll be okay.  Will it be as good as a burger I can get at the Mom and Pop's diner in  town, or as good as a chunk of meat I can get at a local steakhouse?  Of course not- but I'd be very much at fault to have those expectations to begin with.

To be honest, from what I've seen of the paintjobs, he did far better than he should have for $3 per figure.  You truly have my condolences for not being happy with how your minis were treated, but as customers, we must accept the responsibility of our choices as well.  When making decisions like this, particularly in a "too good to be true" situation like this, research is incredibly important.

I read the BGG thread on this when it was originally posted, and it inspired me to paint my own minis.  I'm almost done now (Waves 1-7) after about a month of work, and I'm extremely pleased in what I've done.  They're far from professional quality, but they're a hell of a lot better than the grey and tan I had before.  I don't want to sound presumptuous, but as a friend, I'd suggest trying to paint the minis yourself next time.  Even if they don't come out perfect, it's immensely satisfying, and you might just discover that you're much better at it than you could have anticipated.

Also- even with my amateur quality of the minis, It's taken me a very long time to paint each figure.  I absolutely cannot imagine doing this for commission work at only $3 a figure, and using my own tools and paint to boot.  I'd be practically losing money in that venture.

This is a thread for discussing The Last Jedi and for discussing spoiler material- that way, spoilers won't infect the other threads.

Also, it probably wouldn't be a terrible idea to use the spoiler tags here, just in case.  You don't want to be the one to ruin it for someone, even if they accidentally clicked on in here.

So just to be totally clear, if you're reading this thread, you will see spoilers.  You really can't complain if you continue at this point.

As most people are probably aware, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (TLJ) is in U.S. theaters tonight.  It would be nice if we can all agree to not put any TLJ spoilers in any threads for a while.  Or at the very least, use spoiler tags...

People who post here are generally pretty good about this but I know there is a lot of hype around the movie as well.  I am trying to avoid any sites that have the potential to spoil the movie (I doubt I'm the only one in this boat) and it would be nice if this can be a safe-haven from any TLJ spoilers.
Thanks!

subtrendy got a reaction from thereisnotry in How FFG Approaches Balance in IA Campaign
Well, here's a campaign mapped out with the Rebels winning every mission and fulfilling any and all optional objectives- literally, a worst case scenario for the Empire every turn.  The following is from a real possible campaign played with 4 heroes, but I'm obscuring mission names for possible spoilers.  Also, assuming no crates ever taken.

Intro
Rebels: 800 credits, 1XP apiece
Empire: 1 XP, 1 Influence
Empire denied of: 1 Influence

Side Mission 1
Rebels: Hero Reward, 400 credits, 1 XP apiece
Empire: 1 XP, 1 Influence
Empire denied of: 2 Influence, blocking hero reward

Story Mission 1
Rebels: 2 XP apiece, 800 credits,
Empire: 1 XP, 1 Influence
Empire denied of: 1 XP

Side Mission 2
Rebels: Hero Reward, 400 Credits, 1 xp apiece
Empire: 1 XP, 1 Influence
Empire denied of: 2 Influence

Story Mission 2
Rebels: 800 credits, 2XP apiece
Empire: 1 XP, 1 Influence
Empire denied of: 1 XP

As of right now, we can see that the Empire is about 2XP behind the Rebels about halfway through the campaign.  That is, admittedly, a pretty decent class card.  Influence is pretty negligible, in my opinion- it's useful, sure, but far from as important as XP.  Also, the Empire has missed some opportunities to block Rebel credits (which I forgot to mark), which could've hurt the Rebels.

So yeah, I think there is some potential for a snowball- but also, if the Empire is losing that badly (and I can say this because I've been there) then perhaps someone else should take over for them.

Yet not one of those quotes was "we don't care about balance in campaign".
You reinterpretated many of those quotes to read as that, but surely you don't that makes it so.  Surely you don't think the post you made where you literally interjected your own subtext into that interview is somehow the end-all be-all of this issue.

I see it, like has recently been brought up, as X-Wing rules: read what's on the card, not what isn't on it.  Or, more appropriately here, read what's in the interview, not what isn't.

Not at all.

Admitting that balance is much more difficult in a game mode that inherently asymmetric doesn't mean that they don't care about it.  Nor does implying that balance issues shouldn't hamper your campaign experience if it isn't fun.  To say that they "don't care about balance for campaign" is not only comically pessimistic, it's also just inaccurate.

Yeah, I get that.  Just played a campaign myself that ended with this mission and the Rebels beat me pretty handily, to be honest.

And of course, as long as the campaign group is fine with the Rebels researching missions, OP is more than free to ask away (assuming their group is well aware and accepting of that kind of metagaming).  I appreciate at least putting spoiler tags in, so thanks for that.  Gotta keep those rebel eyes off the plans.
