I'm wondering if we would ever have had this problem if PWTs weren't a thing. I understand that turrets are meant to counter arc dodgers, but all other turrets in the game have some sort of range donut: TLT, Ion, Blaster, even HLC Dash (as much as I hate him). Flying limited range turrets rewards skilled maneuvering and on the other side of the table they at least allow some form of counterplay. PWTs are different, they can shoot you literally anytime you can shoot them back, and that's just lazy design IMO. Because of that, Autothrusters and Royal Guard TIE were introduced to bring Interceptors back into the game, but those fixes along with Palp started a trend of arc dodgers relying on token stacks to survive instead of actual arc dodging. Along with pre-nerf x7 this then brought in a truckload of anti-ace cards and red dice creep that brings the game into the state it is today. If there ever is a 2.0 I sincerely hope PWTs aren't going to be a thing.

I like playing a competition.  Win, Lose or Draw I like both of us to be engaged and for the match to feel like every decision matters.  Matches where I am either completely out of my depth or my opponent is are not rewarding.  I have played opponents who were psychologically defeated by their prior matches and had lost confidence in their list and just "played out" the round and those always feel awful.  As does running up on an opponent who has put more time into their list and practice than I put into my day job.

It depends on how I win. If it was a back and forth game where I managed to get the upper hand in the end, heck no. That's what the game is all about. But if I table wipe someone, some guilt comes in, whether it was due to inexperience or bad dice on my opponent's part. I would honestly prefer to lose by a hair then win by a mile.

Of course. By no means were they an easy mode list. (I would consider something like Parattani to be an 'easy' list, due to sheer dice mod advantage) But, people also exaggerate their difficulty. By the way people boast of the skill and bravery it took to bring Palp aces to the table you'd think they were bringing Fel alone and triumphing due to nothing but their exceptional piloting.

Fel and co are 'counterstrikers'. They move last, and circle around their opponent, avoiding as much damage as possible. Just like in boxing, its a very powerful tactic. It is easier to react to a situation than to predict one.
Too many people are talking up how much skill is required to play Fel effectively. It was never the case that only a few brave and skilled individuals were flying and winning with Palpaces. The scene was saturated with them.
It was a horrible struggle to fly pure jousters vs them. You had to predict accurately (and often, just get lucky), and block, but still have multiple fully modded guns on target, and hope that your opponent didn't get good greens and you only ever got a couple of chances to get the kill. I would argue that it takes considerably more skill to beat aces with jousters than (pure) jousters with aces. Imagine 5 Khirax vs Shuttle, Soontir and Inky. Which player will have to play better to get the win?
I won't argue that they were unbeatable. But if they were trully astonomically hard to fly and would evaporate in an instant at the smallest error, then they would never have enjoyed their immense popularity.
In summary - not always an NPE and took some skill, but made a lot of ships redundant.

Not astronomically hard, but requiring more skill than those who label them "easy mode" keep saying.

NPE is always going to be a matter of opinion. There are certain things that will be considered 'NPE's more commonly than others, and I think the textbook one is losing a turn(often repeatedly).
The thing with X-Wing is that its so easy to have a bad time if you are completely outplayed. Since you can be outplayed in so many different ways(flying, dice rolls, list building) it is common for it to happen.
Without some sort of catch up mechanic a game will very often be un-fun for the loser, especially if they lose often. Not much you can do about it here, short of stagnating the game to preserve balance.

I'm throwing another vote in the "arc-dodging is not NPE, invulnerability is NPE" bucket.
Arc-dodging is great in a game that is supposed to be about dog-fighting spaceships. Attempting to predict and outfly the opponent to have an attack while avoiding theirs is great! Soontir was great at arc-dodging, but the problem was when you did out-think the Soontir pilot, and you caught them dead to rights, rolled all hits, all of the defensive mods meant you did 0 damage. You were playing the arc-dodging game "correctly," however you were not being rewarded for good play (by being able to actually destroy Soontir) thus making the arc-dodging game not fun or NPE.

I mean, I've played against it once with RAC/Whisper (I'm only invested in Imperials, so no faction switching for me to the new hawtness!) and beat it, but he couldn't predict me for crap, it was his first time playing it, and it STILL took me multiple turns to kill Biggs. When you can throw five dice, fully modded, at a ship and only watch in despair as they're laughed off...
But it's fun to theorize. That's why I think R2-D2 is the optimal solution. It helps cover the list's weakness, makes you tankier versus the mirror match, and increases the "Holy crap this match is no fun I quit, you win" factor.

If the supposition that Lowwrick/Selflessness was developed in response to Deadeye triple Jumps, then the cure really is worse than the disease was. It's not unbeatable, but it's BORING, and that's the ultimate crime any game can commit.

Not really, no.  The only thing it really dies "hard" to is massed TLTs.  So yeah, there's a solution, but a hefty percentage of players would say the cure is at least as bad as the disease.

Double Edge would be better in literally any other TIE with a secondary weapon option (TIE Adv, TAP, Bomber, Punisher, Defender, or SF)
The turret combined with ordnance on a fragile platform is weird. It makes him want to abuse the turret so he doesnt get shot, but that means he cant use his ability because nobody is ever in arc
in fact he'd be quite mean in a defender /d. The title makes no mention about not attacking again after the next free attack, and neither does Double Edge. So if that Tractor Cannon missed, doubletap main guns (since they still havnt faq'd the whole Gunner + IG88B crap and thats essentially the same thing)

Only works alongside 3 TLT or something where you can comfortably keep your ships apart - otherwise, I agree that Lone Wolf is a risky upgrade.

Let's try to not light the flames here. This is an important thread with valued information. Salty's comments are fine as one offs, but when he is poked, the thread can derail pretty quickly.

Just leave it be or reply to his many similar comments in a thread where the discussion is already in full swing.

I have also considered the Patiswarm. Like you said, blocking to prevent tokens is an effective method of wearing down Biggs much more quickly.
The main thing holding me back, is that I forsee the rise of Dash/Miranda as a meta staple - and flying a swarm vs that list physically hurts.

In my headsim, I really like the Pattiswarm (Howl, 3 Academies, 3 Black/Crack).  It can block up the formation denying all kinds of actions, and so many attacks basically don't care about the the astromech, the wookie's ability or Selflessness.  Maybe they won't 1-round Biggs, but they don't have to.

Have something more scary on the board. Make your opponent choose between taking TLT shots whilst they chase your Phantom (Or other scary lategame ship) or taking Phantom shots while they chase your TLT's.
If a higher PS ship with repositioning wants to catch you, it will eventually, so you need to make the chase not worthwhile.
Alas, Imps don't have an uber defensive powerhouse like Asajj. So finding a wingmate for Agressors is tricky.

It's hard to kill Jess. She gets rerolls on her greens, and if you roll crits, they go straight onto the Auztick. Plus Lowhrick can give her an extra evade.
It is possible, but you'd better have sacrificed your best goat to the dice gods the night before.

Are you not being shot back at?  Assuming you kill Rex, you will still eat 3 3 dice Reds with (almost full) mods on a tokenless  4-5 health ship. Green dice blank. You have then swapped a 14 point ship for a 30+ point ship. Not a good trade.
Pretty sure that Ketsu and Fearlessness Bossk has a good chance to kill a ship. Shadowcasters can also throw Biggs out of formation, which really hurts this list.
