  1. I've been playing since launch and love the game, but then again I haven't worn myself out on it either. My FLGS runs a tournament one Monday each month, which I play my competitive Dragon deck. The other Mondays they have casual play, where I try a different clan and splash each time. It keeps the game fresh as each clan has it's own playstyle and feel, and it also keeps my opponents interested as they're not facing the same old deck every time I show up. I don't play online at all and I really feel that is why my interest is still high for the game. Like I said, I haven't worn myself out on it.
  2. I've been fine locally because no one is running Scorpion. Anywhere else I'll use the Crane splash because I agree it's our best chance against the Scorpion heavy meta and can still fare well in other match-ups.
  3. For competitive play I'm loyal to my Dragons and have been playing with Crab splash. The AFWTD Scorpion hasn't made it to my local meta yet, if it does I may try Crane splash. For casual I play any clan other than Dragon. It gives me a break and also gives me a better understanding of my enemies.
  4. Since the one weakness of this deck is running low on honor from bidding high for card draw...every time my opponent has played policy debate, I've just bid 1, took the card loss and gained some honor back. When you're usually sitting with 7+ cards in hand, 1 card and knowledge of your hand doesn't usually do much to stop you.
  5. Mountain's Anvil Castle Seeker of Fire Public Forum Earth Feast or Famine Fire Restoration of Balance Fire Pilgrimage Void Rally to the Cause Water Influence: 10/10 Dynasty Deck (40) Character (33) 3x Agasha Sumiko 3x Agasha Swordsmith 3x Doomed Shugenja 3x Kitsuki Investigator 3x Kitsuki Yaruma 3x Mirumoto Raitsugu 3x Niten Adept 3x Niten Master 3x Togashi Initiate 3x Togashi Mendicant 3x Togashi Yokuni Holding (7) 3x Imperial Storehouse 1x Miwaku Kabe 3x Mountaintop Statuary Conflict Deck (40) Event (15) 3x Banzai! 2x Charge! 3x Court Games 2x Indomitable Will 3x Let Go 2x Mirumoto's Fury Attachment (20) 3x Ancestral Daishō 2x Daimyō's Favor 3x Fine Katana 3x Kitsuki's Method 3x Ornate Fan 3x Pathfinder's Blade /// 3x Reprieve /// Character (5) 2x Hiruma Skirmisher //// 3x Tattooed Wanderer My version of Dragon/Crab The provinces are meant to slow down and punish your opponent to give you the edge. Mirumoto's Fury is great too. Between Fury and the provinces, I've been able to take two provinces and not lose any in return consistently. I usually put Rally under the stronghold, but it can be switched with Pilgrimage depending on the matchup. I put Kabe in just to test it out and it's been a great card any time it's come out. As far as characters go, you ideally want to grab a big character with fate and a 1 or 2 cost with no fate each turn. Since adding Sumiko and Yaruma I haven't had any problems with Crane or other political decks, and Yaruma's ability is great with Restoration and Public Forum. Use Charge on any big character as long as it flips tempo and gets you a province break. Always try to use the Wanderer for Covert, him and the Hiruma Ambusher have been fantastic for finishing out games. Try to finish games quickly, this deck is built to break provinces fast while stalling the opponent with Mirumoto's Fury and the provinces. Not sure how the deck plays in a longer game as I've finished all of my games quickly with province breaks. The biggest weakness I've noticed is honor. You have to bid aggressively early so manage your honor carefully after the first couple turns. If you try out the deck, please let me know how it worked for you. So far I'm 6-0 overall with it and went 3-0 At my FLGS tournament.
  6. I've played card games for years, including old5r, and I must say that I've never seen a game come out of the gates with such great variance on deckbuilding and playstyles with such a limited card pool. I mainly play Dragons and after quite a few games with them and getting pretty decent, I decided to try a few other clans out. I learned quickly that what works for one clan doesn't necessarily work for another. Each clan has a new playstyle to learn and a new deck to tweak....and I absolutely love it. Dragon is definitely my main, which I'm sticking with, but I'm learning to play everything in casual matches...there is no better to know your opponent's strengths and weaknesses than to walk in their shoes. Love this game. It's chess, while other card games are checkers
  7. I don't usually need much help in getting the favor and I like the +3 that Kabe gives. Nothing in my deck really relies on the favor. Sure it's nice to have with Sumiko, but she's not worthless without it. If I was running Censure or other cards that depended on it, that would be a no-brainer. Mendicant just for a cheap body that also lets me peek at what's coming up in my Dynasty deck. Running a lot of 4 and 5 cost characters, I'd rather have a 1 cost, than a 2 in this slot. Also, where I'm not counting on the favor I chose him over Courtier or Guardsmen. Also he's nice to have if you have Charge in hand as you can have a little bit of control as to what's coming up in your provinces. I wasn't keen on Yaruma at first, but his ability can be quite nasty. I also use him as it gets me a second option other than Investigator for a Political tower. With my playstyle, I've found I do much better building 2 Voltrons...one military using Niten or Raitsugu, and one political using Investigator or Yaruma. Yokuni and Sumiko can be used as either.
  8. To add a bit of a write up... The stars of the deck are Niten Master and Investigator/Yaruma, if you can get 1 of each towered you are set. A lot of Dragon players are getting away from Daimyo's Favor, but being in a heavy Crab meta I love that I can use it for economy or to get Kisada's ability wasted. Charge is great for multiple characters...Yaruma province shenanigans, a quick 4/4 Sumiko or any big personality when your opponent is about to break Feast. Also don't be afraid to use Charge on Niten Master if you have a hand full of weapons
  9. I also splash Crab and have been running the following deck with success: Mountain's Anvil Castle Seeker of Fire Public Forum Earth Feast or Famine Fire Restoration of Balance Fire Shameful Display Void Elemental Fury Water Influence: 10/10 Dynasty Deck (40) Character (33) 3x Agasha Sumiko 3x Agasha Swordsmith 3x Doomed Shugenja 3x Kitsuki Investigator 3x Kitsuki Yaruma 3x Mirumoto Raitsugu 3x Niten Adept 3x Niten Master 3x Togashi Initiate 3x Togashi Mendicant 3x Togashi Yokuni Holding (7) 3x Imperial Storehouse 1x Miwaku Kabe 3x Mountaintop Statuary Conflict Deck (40) Event (15) 3x Banzai! 2x Charge! 3x Court Games 2x Indomitable Will 3x Let Go 2x Mirumoto's Fury Attachment (20) 3x Ancestral Daishō 2x Daimyō's Favor 3x Fine Katana 3x Kitsuki's Method 3x Ornate Fan 3x Pathfinder's Blade /// 3x Reprieve /// Character (5) 2x Hiruma Skirmisher //// 3x Tattooed Wanderer
  10. I would love to see Dairya as the 5-cost neutral and Ginawa as a 3-cost
  11. I usually do the same with Dragon. Also, don't be afraid to use Charge on big characters, especially if you feel you can't afford them at the time anyway...it's better than having them clog a province, and can be game changing if timed right
  12. I would be fine with Hitomi, but I'd really like to see Mitsu
  13. Went to the launch event at my FLGS and it was nice to see so many people showing interest in the game. Having played the CCG from Imperial until 2003, it was great to go back to Rokugan. I had high hopes, but wasn't sure I'd love the new iteration as much as the original. Turns out I like this version better, same feel with fresh and updated mechanics. The only negative I can come up with is how long a game takes, but I know that will improve drastically as everyone gets the rules and flow of the game down. Couldn't have asked for a better launch imho
  14. Haven't had a chance to proxy, but from the card pool, I couldn't agree more...Scorpion looks very fun to play. I want to run and rep Dragon at tournaments as they have always been my favorite clan, but Scorpion is most likely to be the clan I'll play in casual when I want to play something different. Never cared for Scorpion in Old5R, usually ran LSD(lion speed deck) or Crane honor when I wanted a change. Just something about the new iteration of Scorpion that's drawing me in.
  15. At this point I think he'll show up as a neutral in one of the Dynasty packs. My opinion is that if any faction does get added in, it will be the minor clan alliance.
