I own every book, but I have to admit I rarely (if ever) have to break them out mid-game. They're great for browsing outside of game-time either to familiarise myself with obscure rules that might be needed for an upcoming session or just to read up on some of the fluff, but for in-game I use the adversary decks or a printout of this excellent cheat sheet by the Alexandrian: https://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/37660/roleplaying-games/star-wars-force-and-destiny-system-cheat-sheet
I swear by the adversary decks though (still waiting on Reps & Seps II) as they're great even if you have to improvise an NPC off the top of your head - there's enough cards now that there's always something you can use as a base-line to quickly grab and modify off-the-cuff.
The community also has a lot of great stuff (depending on what type of game you're running) over in the Compiled Resources thread that might count as Unknown Essentials.

And I was just saying the other day “I have quite a few rpg books, I can’t see a reason to ever really buy any more”...

It is a thing, but after looking it up, it would take some rethinking and reworking for Star Wars.
Realms of Terrinoth introduces the Heroic Ability Signature Weapon which allows you to select a signature weapon from a list of 4 options; if it’s ever lost or destroyed, it finds its way back to you against all odds, or you obtain a new one.
Improved Signature Weapon causes it to gain benefits of the Reinforced* quality or gets benefits or being of ancient craftsmanship**.
Supreme Signature Weapon causes it to gain 2 hard points and a free attachment of your choice rarity 9 or less (subject to the new total hard points).
*Weapon immune to Sunder, armor soak immune to Pierce and Breach.
**Increase damage by 1, reduce crit by 1, gain Reinforced, reduce hard points by 1 (to minimum of 0).

In a couple of different groups I play in, the GM has tossed Aphra our way. In one case, the player interacting with her most had no idea about the comics side of things, so it worked out great. In the other, we ran into her along with 000 and BT, ultimately taking out the droids. Our own resident semi-psychotic astromech PC (who'd had his body trashed in a previous session) took over BT's shell.

Gonna have to crack open Genesys again and see what it has to say about signature weapons.

I’m taking these “legendary items” as almost guidelines for making my own for players with regards to their “special abilities.” Since PCs can become legends in their own right, if they’re using specific equipment in conjunction with signature traits/actions it only makes sense that their equipment would be a reflection of that.
That being said, it surprises me that FFG didn’t realize GMs would be all over that kind of thing for their players and include a section on it. Coming from other games (D&D mostly) I can say from experience it’s easy to unintentionally create a custom item that breaks the game and have to scale it appropriately after play (I’m lucky enough to have understanding players who work with me on this). It would be nice to have guidelines for thoughts on this kind of thing from the people making the game rather than having to do some trial and error during play.

In the first of those two groups I mentioned, my son’s character is an archaeologist. It became established that he and Aphra went to school together (and that she kept trying to cheat off of his work).

So finished doing a skim-thru of all the items featured, and here's the stuff that appears to be new.  I cross-referenced this with OggDude's (which I've updated to include most of the gear from books that he's not added data for yet).
Han Solo's Custom DL-44 Blaster Pistol
    Qi'ra's Monlitzer S-195 Blaster Pistol
    SX-31 Pump-Action Scatter Blaster
    Chewbacca's Bowcaster
    Bowcaster Quarrels
    Exoglove
    Kyuzo Petars
    Darth Vader's Lightsaber
    Findsman Shockprod
    Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber
    Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lightsaber
    Boba Fett's Armor
    Darth Vader's Armor
    Componentization (weapon attachment)
    Tibanna-Jacked (weapon attachment)
    Lando's Cape Armoire
    Leia's Diplomatic Wardrobe
Most of the new stuff is for named NPCs, and it's possible that some of those weapons have shown up in Allies & Adversaries (didn't cross-reference that book).  Also possible the Componentization attachment also showed up in another book as it seems vaguely familiar.
Of course, given how much gear that FFG has published across various books, the lack of truly "new" stuff is only a problem if one is a completionist and has purchased every FFG book for this system to date. And it certainly doesn't cover everything, as there were a number of weapons, armor, and items that I recall from other books that didn't make the cut here.  Still, it's a handy resource for GMs and players so they don't have to go searching across a multitude of books.

With the way Disney is cross-marketing it, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they’ve put a bug in FFG’s ear about some sort of location book that could heavily incorporate Galaxy’s Edge/Batuu.

My contributor copy should arrive in a couple of hours, according to UPS. Glad both wardobe items made final cut, those were a lot of fun (and a ton of research) to write. After The Force Awakens, I knew I needed to add explosive quarrels at a minimum to the bowcaster somehow, so having the bandolier provide some alternate ammunition loads felt appropriate. Glad they're being well received thus far!

There are several weapons that I thought would be great to use against my players but I would't want them getting their hands on.
Most of the unique gear have abilities that wouldn't work even if players got a hold of the item.  Han's blaster: Boring Conversation Anyway - allows Han to immediately draw the blaster and make a combat check targeting the target of a failed Deception check (costs 2 Advantage).  So unless you are running a game based on the OT characters and each player is playing one of them, the abilities are mainly fluff.
The exotic weapons chapter covers Bowcaster Quarrels which are pretty cool and provide alternate ammo options for the weapon.
    Two different "wardrobes"
Lando's Armoire and Leia's Diplomatic Wardrobe - both allow you to choose clothing that adds bonuses to random checks.
