Which is why I made sure to specify that this was occurring locally.  ;D

(I know the Cleveland groups and Columbus groups have been awfully quiet over the last 6 months, I'm not sure how often they meet).

In terms of overall health, locally, 2018 was one of our better years. I've been the organizer for the Streetsboro OH group since the group founder moved back to California just after wave 5 dropped in 2016. We had 6 regulars at that point. Over the winter and spring until the release of wave 6 our group dropped to 3 weekly attendees. Wave 6 picked up 5 people in our local group, 2 of which still attend regularly. This was an interesting time, we often had 4 full tables going. By wave 7 we dropped a few people to life circumstances outside the game itself, jobs, marriage, moving, ect... but managed to pick a couple of new players too. As things currently stand, even if all the people aren't playing Armada, our weekly group still meets and usually has 5 or 6 people. All of them still have their Armada stuff and most still crack it out from time to time. The others are just waiting for FFG to give them a reason to play.

    Anecdotal? Yup.

But that's the scope of things where I'm at.

    This does happen.

Thankfully 2018 as a whole was pretty good for Armada locally. We picked up 3 new people, 2 of which are regular attendees to weekly meets and tournaments. I look forward to running demos again once the SSD drops. We've had 2 or 3 small groups of watchers over the last 3 weeks as we've played 800 point and 400 point matches... I've offered to a run a demo for all of them,  so I have a good feeling that 2019 will be a good year for us locally too.

I can second this sentiment. I got a good match in Friday. It was super close. (Or at least I'd like to think it was).  Went in with a sloane fleet. Lost to an MSU trc90 fleet with no squads... I was supremely disappointed with all my rolls, and amazed by his. I don't think a single cr90 fired at less than 5 damage that game...

Even a loss in Armada is still a great change of pace compared to being stuck playing legion or...ugh.... x-wing...

Well, not everyone is going to like it.

Though that's an odd stance to take considering the universe you're referring to. New crazy things happen all the time, even in the old EU. lol

    By the same logic...

"I wonder why Jedi spent a lifetime learning to deflect blaster bolts with a lightsaber when they could just stop them with the force?"

"I wonder why Jedi spent a lifetime learning lightsaber combat form when they could just catch lightsaber blades with their hands?"

Any time something NEW happens, intentional or not in the SWU it's always going to have a "why didn't it happen before" reflection on the series.

So you can either never have anything new... or suspend doubt that accidents happen an discoveries could be made...

"I wonder why doctors spent lifetimes learning amputation techniques when they they could have just used penicillin."

lol I don't know, take it for what it is.

This is one of the subtle things they either had to cut or was a missed opportunity in the movie version of TLJ...

There was a solid reason she was able to fight him. They explain it pretty well in the TLJ novelization. It should have been on screen. When Kylo went into Rey's mind during TFA she was able to fight back because of his inexperience. By opening his mind to her, when she fought back she was accidentally imprinted with his force training.

It's subtle in TFA. You'll notice the typical force sensitive tropes up until that scene, unnatural piloting,  unnatural timing, visions... so on,  but then she starts using skills that she shouldn't have. In context with the info above. It makes much more sense.

Because of this Kylo was fighting his equal in training, equal in power (according to Snoke), and opposite in alignment... but with a crippling stomach wound.

To be honest, I too was a little skeptical of it when it happened in TFA but I feel the explanation they gave adds to the film instead of just filling in blanks.

Here's my take on the SSD, for better or worse.
price: I'm retired military with disposable income, so don't care, albeit I will admit that this IS going to be an issue for most folks.
fat Han: I don't think this will necessarily be an issue. I think with my usual tourney list I can take one down, but I'll admit it will require very good flying. With how expensive it is both in dollars and points, I don't think it's going to be a huge presence at tourneys.
I think, given the Sector Fleet rules, that it will have more play in those rules, as in scenarios or one off large battles as opposed to regular tourney play.
Finally....it's an SSD. I'm getting one, even if all it does is sit on a shelf looking awesome. 😄

Anecdotal as heck, but I actually find the AFKII to be particularly useful when running Sato or Akbar fleets. It's one of the only rebel platforms that can push mass squads and take the flight controllers upgrade.  With toryn nearby you're turning those 3-5 squads into kill machines.

I will say that I completely agree it's definitely costed out quite often due to the efficiency of the mc30.

I'm finding that the game feels more balanced at 800 points too. Ships that are regularly avoided are an option with the extra points. Makes for an interesting game dynamic. I played a fleet last week with 3 mc30s, and the more I look back, the more I'm seeing the AFKII as a better option.

Again, anecdotal, hardly relevant, but that's what I've seen.

I mean, yes, Ackbar makes the AFKII much better.  The problem, though, is that the AFKII makes Ackbar much worse.  If you want to Ackbar, that's cool and all, but then either go (A) Fish Farm MC80 or go (B) MC30 Scouts.  The MC30s are generally as resilient as the AFKII, but they are cheaper (even with their titles added), faster, more nimble, and get more mileage out of TRC thanks to double-evade.

Darth Sanguis got a reaction from Muelmuel in FFG ARMADA Article: Interview online!!!
I suppose I'll chip in now.

My only real concern about going to an app like X-wing has less to to with the subjects brought up by everyone else, and more to do with FFG's standard treatment of Armada.

I feel like even if we got an app, the updates would not be timely, ever, the app quality would be poor (and likely require wifi), and the game would still have the "imperfections" it was designed to "fix"....

I mean, I don't know how to code, but I know that typing up a paper with images and converting it to PDF only takes a few minutes and yet almost every FAQ we've had over the last few years has been delayed by months

Somehow I don't think an app would be great for us , not because it would ruin the game balance or let them sell an incomplete product, but because we are the starving forgotten stepchild of FFG, I have no doubt the app would suffer from the same level of neglect as everything else Armada related...
