My 9 year old son brought this up when he heard about tractor beams. Could you fire a tractor beam at one of your own ships to get the boost/barrel roll effect? Not that this would be smart, necessarily, but if it would prevent flying off the board or something, would it be a legitimate tactic? Now that I think about it, could you do something similar with Dead Man's Switch? Fly a Z with dead mans switch into the middle of a swarm and then shoot him with your own ship for a big kaboom.

Yes! I have thought about trying to fly a mixed squad of X-wings and Interceptors and call them the Wraiths, but I just started playing, so I haven't gotten it together yet.
