Progress on the Gunship. Panels have been hand-cut from plasticard and glued on. The ship was primed last night.

I still refuse to play against them as a game mechanic. And yeah that means forfeiting the occasional tourney round. They are unthematic, overly capable in the timing of the effect compared to similar effect ion, and still rob agency from the player excessively in their planning step which is the core experience of the game.
While we're on the subject I've been meaning to ask this one. And here I can without derailing a thread. Because I've racked my noggin and I can't think of anything: Can anyone, tell me one time, that tractor beams, were used effectively, in combat, from one fighter craft to another for the sake of destruction? Any time it was actually in combat on screen? Greatly appreciative.

I remain unconvinced that tractor mechanics should be in the game at all.

The Ewing and Kwing are Black Fleet Crisis era ships, farther down the Legends timeline than the T70 is down the sequel timeline. Giving them tech slots seems reasonable to me.

Did you all forget that the Quadjumper gets a Tech slot but can be used alongside Lando's falcon?

I'm not trying to be a tool I'm just saying that like, you know.

There's a precedent for Tech mixing with no-techs in the same faction.

My gosh, those engines look so messy and lumpy on a proper computer screen (uploaded them with my mobile)! 😬
Next up is Scum - a faction I actually did (some) real repaints on and not just touch ups. I came up with this color scheme after I painted a Scurrg with Nym colors (orange-white/grey-dark grey/black). I did an experiment with adding some orange nyances on some Black Sun -prepainted ships and I liked it! So maybe these guys are a division of the Black Sun cartel specialized on smuggling oranges...

Need to get more Fangs. The paintjob on these is quite bland and needs maybe some teeth-like shapes/darker tones.

YV is heading for a repaint, I tried to paint a somewhat rusty Sandcrawlerish look on this one. Too dark grey and I don't like my rust-effects on this one. Pup is docked with a magnet.

Together with C-3PO and Bombardment Specialists 3 calculate token give a lot of options for range adjustments or just modifying shots in general.

This is exactly the problem and it is bad.
If it has the slot the slot ought to have some use. It was awful before and it’s worse now.
Cannons for 3-dice ships are ways of getting control or auto damage effects. They’re obscenely overpriced.
There’s NO way to justify ion cannon being MORE expensive than Ion Turret. And tractor-HLC double-tap is a fun trick but will never ever be worth 10 points.
Either way, why make all the other ships suffer for the B-Wing’s strengths? Sure the other ships got buffs. Great! But they will never, ever, EVER take Cannons. Very bad move on FFG’s part.
Another reason the cost shouldn’t be in the Cannons but in the chassis; and if cannons don’t make your chassis better, maybe don’t get a slot tax for it? And if they do, maybe you should?
Scyks at at a good point now. But no, they won’t take Cannons in best cases. They’ll do better with torps, prockets, or naked.

    Nope, you aren't.
You have on one hand a non-conditionnal double tap with the VTG, and in the other one a conditionnal one.
Which means you won't modify any of your shots and you have to spend a TL to get the double tap effect. So you'll have to buy either a High init pilot or another upgrade (passive sensors) to be assured to get your double tap.

So if you want to compare, it's 13pts for VTG+dorsal versus 8pts for ailerons+AB+Passive. And the 8pts option gets its actions restricted and dice mods denied.
    Not sure that's unfair.

I still don't get why cannon costs aren't dependent from the primary weapon value.
That's basically been the problem with cannons since v1. And that's also the reason why they had to add special rules (double-taping defenders, now B-wings, Aggressors..) to make them interesting for 3 red-dice ships.

Giledhil reacted to Schanez in All Hyperspace Changes Summarized
That is the problem here. You have to swap factions, so buy ships. The whole Hyperspace cutting seems like a massive money grab.
The fact FO and Res gets much better ships for barely higher point cost is just baffling to me.
Tie LN is 22. Tie FO is 25, has Lock action, better dial and a shield. Lock is 3 points, Shield on 3 Agility is 8 points, value of dial is debatable.
T-65 is 40. T-70 is 42, has basic Boosts without flipping Foils, it's foils allow it to still have all attack dice and has access to a Hardpoint instead of a Torpedo slot and a Shield more.
RZ-1 is 29. RZ-2 is 32, has a Tech slot and can shoot backwards.
Show me balance in this. Please.

I agree with OP: Cannons were trash before and useless now, except in very specific cases that should be paying the price instead of the cannon.
Same goes for missiles vs Jendon/PS. Nerf the problem, not the generic tool.

Giledhil reacted to Boom Owl in some thoughts on breaking points and spam
I agree that spam breakpoints are hugely arbitrary in alot of cases. That said lists like 5 Striker + Wampa are mostly terrible not because they cant be spammed. Its easily my favorite list in the game and I have a huge # of games with it. 6 Strikers would have the same problems that 5 Striker + Wampa has. The list would have to allow 7 strikers before it would become functional unless FFG introduces a highly restricted Hyperspace mode again. Playing the list well has very little pay off and razor thin margin for error, 6 simply isnt enough and would never be enough in this economy with current low Ace tax rates.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I think the core problem (besides low prices or pips for Aces) is a lack of in game counter play built into individual ace/ship platforms.
Core Counter Play Mechanics That Probably Should Apply to Nearly Everything:
Blocking - Should Deny Actions and Modification Stress - Should Deny Actions and Modification Obstacles - Should Deny Actions and Modification Repositioning - Should Require Stress or Loss of Modification  If these aren't set in stone as counter options against Aces the only real option is extreme efficiency ( think "Force" Using Generics ) or Control/AOE. If Blocking, Stress, and Obstacles were actually relevant 6 Striker starts to look functional along with many other mid-efficiency low/mid init lists. And Trip Ace lists could exist without as much risk to the game. End of the day though thats not what most of the player base is asking for. Its arguably a more interesting game, but not a more popular one.
TLDR: Even 8 Vultures with Networked and Struts is an actively bad list. Ace Pips are probably the easiest answer.

Thank you all for making 2019 an inspiring year for painting! It was the year I feel like I finally broke through and really became proficient, largely due to all of you. I have gotten lots of tips, tricks, and amazingly talented examples thanks to all of you.
May I present the results of my 2019 painting?
In all, 32 ships were painted! I couldn't believe it when I counted. Some are 3D prints, they are pointing right in the group shots. All the others are stock FFG ships. You can probably tell I still have things to learn, but I am loving this hobby!
Despite 32 ships painted it seems like I still have a ton on my desk waiting for paint in 2020. Thanks for your support and keep those brushes busy in 2020!

Because that thing isn’t a B-Wing. B-Wings have 4 types of cannons built in.
Yes you’re removing an option that never should have existed in the first place.
If they include the foils with any future print runs of the ship, I see no problem with this.

Giledhil reacted to Jokubas in Showcase: the weird and wacky: kitbashes, scratchbuilds, and mods that don't fit elsewhere
This isn't exactly a mod, but it doesn't really fit elsewhere. I got this as a gift and I painted it.
It's a Luxury Yacht 3000. I didn't like how it turned out at first, it's very rough in some spots and overdone in others, but it's growing on me.
My black paint is way too watery by default so it's practically a wash and rarely sticks where I need it to. The grey I've been using is too saturated and blue/purple (although it looks worse in the first pic than in person)? Otherwise my biggest flaw is that I get lazy. Watering down my white and off-white helped me really naturally build up the initial layers and it left some neat, worn-looking effects in a few places, but I started taking shortcuts as I went on, leading to some spots being shiny with too much paint.
Overall, I wanted a fairly simple look to this ship, not straying too far from its typical artwork (unlike the Fortune and Glory). I had fun doing a bit of a "wood-paneling" look above the cockpit and around some of the windows, as well as that railing area around the back. I did a red stripe down the nose for a sort of Rebel look, and that's pretty much it aside from detailing the little greeblies and a couple of blast marks. The only other thing is a reference to the carpet design from Star Wars Galaxies on the platform with the railing.
