I get it, but I think pierce is over used as well. We are getting to the point where we may as well not even have defense dice. I hate going back to Star Wars Miniatures, but it went from a very elegant game to one that each attack took 10 minutes because everyone who would ever end up on a list had either a gimmick; or Double Attack with Twin Attack, some ability that gives you a 50% chance to dodge, and if it was a force user, some kind of force point regeneration. Also, clear Luke dodged B-Fett on Bespin 😃

I don't think he needs to be as powerful as Luke or Vader. I mean many of his love him, but he doesn't have to be a tier 1 character. I would rather he show up in a lot of lists, rather than a list being built up around him. It just a matter of cost. If you simply changed his cost to like 8, he would cost appropriately. If he is going to be a 13 point character, then he needs more ability. As I said in the previous post. Just making him a vehicle would help out in Skirmish. If you added vehicle and brawler to his keyword list, that would open a lot of cards to help him.
-
For one, his cost should go down. For second, he needs to have the keyword "vehicle" added to his keywords. Also he should have all this abilities instead of choosing. With those changes, and an appropriate costing, he becomes a viable figure. I don't need Boba to be the bestest evar, but he needs to be costed accordingly. If you study Ezra, who has many of his same abilities, Ezra is demonstrably more powerful than Boba, and only costs 7 points.

"there is another" (hope)
Rikalonius replied to Mandalore of the Rings's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm, and it sounds like a great idea in theory. I, myself have ideas for fixes. The problem is gaining community wide acceptance. When I look through custom cards, I see a lot of OP cards based on people's biases for what they liked in the films, and not based on game balance or even game need. There is something to be said for the company declaring the rules, even if they aren't always how we'd create them ourselves. I guess it doesn't matter anymore, since it doesn't seem like the company is keeping to strict testing either. -
State of the game - FFG we need answers
Rikalonius replied to FrogTrigger's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Oh, they didn't it. I was the same thing. The best few lists were played by all the top players at big tournaments, and the finals were regularly mirror lists And I hated it. I'm one of these crazy people who prefer fun and theme over min-maxing. -
State of the game - FFG we need answers

I've always thought that mirror lists shouldn't be allowed, going back to my Star Wars miniatures days. -
Half the lists at worlds - Specter cell. Disgusting.
Rikalonius replied to Kalandros's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
I went through all this with WOTC Star Wars minis. It is the inevitable course of skirmish games because publishers are not interested in creating a healthy game, not that they are totally at fault, they interested in selling merchandise. Why do you think all of FFG games have non-standard dice? And/or include some supplemental card system to the rules. It makes it so people need to buy stuff. X-Wing and Legion are far worse than IA in this respect, which is why IA isn't getting the FFG love we'd like it to be given. The other side of the equation is player demand. "Stale, meta" they say. The constant demand for the next box, the next units. Those units have to have their special thematic ability which "changes" the meta. Now, look, one box sends the whole Jenga pile to the table. Just like SWM, the continued infusion of more characters does the exact opposite what people claim they want; it makes the new characters mandatory and the old characters obsolete. The lists narrow rather than expand. -
Half the lists at worlds - Specter cell. Disgusting.
Rikalonius replied to Kalandros's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Maybe, but none of the Spectre figures were in any way "weak." Ezra is more powerful than Boba Fett at half the cost. So adding a damage and a block to every character, as well as add free attack once a round? Yeah, not sure how this wasn't immediately spotted in testing. -
I'd prefer some edits to the available products. To keep adding more plastic for the sake of shaking up the Meta bugs me. It makes me hate the skirmish side of the game. Stale meta is a way of saying, "we know there enough customers who will buy whatever we put out so long as it is new, that we never have to worry about making the pieces that are available, viable." I'd like to know why Boba hasn't been fixed yet? It never leads to where they say it will lead. They just keep infusing units, like in X-wing, until its broken, and then they release a new version to get you to rebuy the game.

Does Clone Wars Legion make Clone Wars IA more likely?
Rikalonius replied to mazz0's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Indeed. Legion is just a more expensive hobby version of Star Wars miniatures from WOTC. I'm sure down the road they'll be a Mandalorian pack. -
Campaign Hub world (need input)
Rikalonius replied to Spidey NZ's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Have you been playing Shadows of Brimstone, lately? I kid. It isn't actually a bad idea. One thing I like about the app is that there is a sort of Hub world, as well as missions that are based solely on attribute test, like an impromptu dog fight. I think those kinds of random events, like are in SoB, and which I enjoyed (mostly, if it wasn't getting me killed). -
You'll fine that skirmish players hate swing-y. They already loudly lament the existence of a 1:6 chance, that may come once or twice in a game, that enables a character to dodge an attack , thus disrupting their carefully laid out damage per turn calculations. I'd also ask, what if a character doesn't have a yellow die? So some character will not benefit at all from this mechanic. This is especially egregious in combat. The mechanics already take dodge into account, and if you are on the losing end of a no-x-roads streak, a white dice character potentially takes a lot more damage than, so attackers with yellow dice in their attack pool, or characters that choose their attack dice, are suddenly at a significant advantage that was never figured into play testing.

New map announced.. Ewoks?!
Rikalonius replied to Brigadierblu's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
The joke about Ewok costumes was just that, an ironic juxtaposition based on the height of the Ewok vs the Wookiee. Yes, the Zulus one "a" battle against the British when they ambushed 1300 men who were guarding a caravan with 20,000 ZULU warriors. The British were using 7 shot, breach-loading rifles, and still killed thousands of Zulus before they were overrun, which took most of the day. Still, that is not apt comparison. While the Ewoks may be the technological equivalent of the Zulus, the Empire would have been the equivalent of a modern infantry battalion. The Zulus would have never prevailed against semi-automatic, magazine fed rifles. Especially if the Brits had a couple APCs with them. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the film, and if you want to call it "stupid" fun, that's great, but then why try so vehemently to defend it? It would have been much better if it would have been Wookiees who were a technological inferior society, but who employed the same weapons as their enemies. -

Cost prohibitive doesn't seem outside the scope of possibility. I mean, in satirical terms, Ewok customs are probably...half... the expense of Wookieee costumes. -
New map announced.. Ewoks?!
Rikalonius replied to Brigadierblu's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
I think that's a great setup. Have the IA heroes doing the work that went into preparing for the film's heroes to do their jobs. Also, I don't even think we need Endor. I would rather see a post ROTJ "Freedom for Kashyyyk" box that would provide Endor-esque tiles, without inserting the IA heroes into the movie narrative. Scout troopers would just as viable a unit for a Kashyyyk expansion as an Endor one. Ewoks were originally going to be Wookiees anyway, until George decided Teddy Bears sold better. The old video game Galactic Battlegrounds, the Age of Empires clone, had a campaign to free Kashyyyk, and it was probably the best campaign of the lot of them. -

New map announced.. Ewoks?!
Rikalonius replied to Brigadierblu's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
I'm a fan of the technologically inferior underdog, but Ewoks take it to far. Even as a teenager, it was too much to suspend disbelief, to see stone-aged teddy bears taking on space aged shock troops. They win only though the power of plot armor, and because seeing the cute, toy sale magnets, being wiped out faster than plains bison, would be terrifying to the kiddies. -

You may be right, but this also who we were introduced to CT-1701, and it wasn't long after that the Lothar expansion was announced. Am I wrong about that? -

Pirate's Price: Rebels Themed Video
Rikalonius replied to Rogue Dakotan's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
I enjoyed watching this video. I like themed games instead of everyone minin' and maxin' cruising in car you spent all day waxin'. You made good use of scenes from Rebels. Good editing overall, the game was easy to follow from a spectator's point of view, minus the microphone going out a little after midway. I hope to see more videos in this style. Oh, I very much enjoyed the use of Hondo as a neutral character. That was good use of the bidding mechanic, a mechanic I've liked since the TSR Marvel Superhero game I played as a teenager, and Hondo's a good choice seeing as he can siphon back some of the bid VP's. -
How far is the game from being discontinuid
Rikalonius replied to Celonius's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Depends on which WOTC Boba Fett you are looking for. The original Rebel Storm B-Fett and Boba Fett: Bounty Hunter are expensive, yes, but there are a couple of others , like Boba Fet: Mercenary that is much cheaper to acquire. -

Rikalonius replied to Celonius's topic in Star Wars: Imperial Assault
IA miniatures have been creeping up to Legion's size. I've done a number of comparisons. If you base them on IA bases, and not the thicker Legion bases, they are not that dissimilar. Some are. I'm hoping Legion eventually creates all the same minis that are in IA, that way I can have figures in the same unit with different poses, which I like. -
It was probably a serious question, as it caught me three years ago. As has been said, it comes up every couple weeks. I even said once, "why don't we pin this topic" and I was told that it was fun to see how many times it happens. I know it is hard to believe, but there are still newcomers to this game who aren't as familiar with the product as those of us who haunt the forums... like me.
