  1. Well since we are playing the reductio ad-absurdum game, how about the "I would literally eat a tube of George Lucas' feces so long as it had the Star Wars logo emblazoned on the canister" people. So you are equating people who liked the EU with "people who hate everything new" and by extension your failed analogy of dangerous bike riding? That hardly makes sense. I guess schlock is only schlock if it doesn't come from Lucas Disney? So that new stuff was bad, but this new stuff good? Was Kyle Katarn worse than Kanan? There was some good in the EU and there was some bad in the EU. I liked most the Clone Wars, save for Ahsoka, but Rebels is kiddie garbage, except maybe for Hera, that has completely changed the lore. But, it sounds like you are saying continuity is irrelevant. We'll just change it up whenever like a soap opera... or wrestling.
  2. I don't think so. The moment they'd announce it, there'd be a pitchfork-toting mob at FFG HQ's doorstep going "Rararararr, why are you MAKING ME buy two 100$ core sets for this game, rarararrr". And then there would be a metric ton of forum threads all over the internet with people confused about why there's two core sets and which to buy and why and I don't get this at all I'll buy Rebellion instead. X-Wing got a new core set because that core set is a cheap introductory product, really more of a demo kit than an actual game. And at the time, it was a good excuse to put an updated and cleaned up rulebook on the market, since the errata and clarifications and new tokens and new mechanics and new play formats and all that junk was getting unwieldy after all those expansions and all those years tournament play. And it gave them the option to errata the damage deck. And it was probably cheap as chips and quick to manufacture to do that in place of a straight up reprint of the old core set, since all that's really changed is the cards and the paintjobs. The Force Awakens core set is de facto a stealth second edition of the game, which is very well played on FFGs part, considering how backhurt people tend to be about new editions. Bottom line is, the Imperial Assault is too young of a product line, too high price point and would have too much redundant overlap in the miniatures to sustain two core sets concurrently, and even more so to have a new core set replace the old. A while back I said that eventually Disney is going to overwrite the OT like so many bits on a HDD platter. Eventually people will be like "Luke who?" And it will be about how George's true vision was about Ahsoka being the chosen one the whole time.
  3. This sounds like an excuse to put Darth Maul into the game. I don't want to be the nattering nabob of negativity, but I couldn't stand these inquisitors. I thought was ridiculous addition to the universe, but that's just me. I was so happy with IA being relatively Jedi less, but I knew it couldn't last. I'm having Star Wars galaxies flashbacks now.
  4. Coming from a Star Wars minis background I was all about the skirmish, but then I started playing the campaign by myself and then found some friends to be rebels. I found I was having more fun with the campaign than with skirmish.
  5. So I want to review the Diala figure. See I would liked to think of Diala and Gaarkhan as palling around together like Mission and Zalbar. Now I know the Temptation mission adds a little bit of lore to her. Is that supposed to take place on Yavin or Kashyyyk, or does anyone know? In her intro paragraph it says she is not a fully trained Jedi, but according to Temptation she had a master, and that master was killed by Darth Vader. So was Diala ever formally admitted to the academy on Coruscant. I'm going to guess no. Maybe her master fled he purge and then, like many Jedi, choose her to carry on his own legacy. What if he was on Kashyyyk when the purge happened and hid in the shadowlands. He could have freed both Gaarkhan and Diala who might have been slaves and then they all became friends. After that he took them to Yavin where Darth Vader tracked him down, though using Yavin is tenuous because how long had the Rebels been there. Why would the Rebels go someplace frequented by Vader. Based on the lore that has come since A New Hope, why would the Rebels have ever used Yavin? Anyway, that's my view of Diala.
  6. Over a radio, troopers won't know it's an Ithorian. Nexus can probably be baited.... mmm fresh meat. I don't think Murne's ability isn't that great in Campagin, an extra attack with a stormtrooper or something isn't that big of a deal against an endless horde of stormtroopers. Much better in skirmish. Also we still don't know all the new command cards, class decks, almost none of the new imperial stuff has been revealed in detail... There's plenty more to go. With the Ithorian breathing they'll think it is Darth Vader.
  7. Sorastro. Beautiful. Just beautiful. It is a perfect pic for the 4th. I love the blocking terrain red dash lines that invoke a certain Corellian's signature pant stripe.
  8. I know I'll probably be pilloried for this, but, here come the Ninjas. I don't mind Davith as a Hero, but as a skirmish deployment, I think he is a bit cheap.
  9. My Head canon for Biv was that he was a former stormtrooper.
  10. They look identical in size to Star Wars Miniatures which are 1:57 or 32mm.
  11. I can't like the use of Michael Scott enough. I so loathe Starkiller.
  12. In that case I say, play what is fun for everyone. Its a game, after all. If you want her to start with a lightsaber because the player is inexperienced and needs some help, go for it.
  13. I think we are all guilty of, but this is the fault of all the movies and video games, lionizing Jedi as some kind of Olympian demigods that can carve their way through swaths of enemy soldiers. I'm looking right at you, Force Unleashed. I like the more subtle take on Jedi in IA, at least thus far. I don't think they were ever supposed to be super heroes. Even when Yoda lifted the X-Wing, it took a few minutes. He didn't just whip it out of the swamp and hurl into the jungle like a shuriken.
  14. Just a quick rant. I don't hate Jedi, but I'm tired of them having to permeate every part of Star Wars, especially if it is during the OT period. I like Diala. I like that she didn't start with a lightsaber, because she was a force user, not a Jedi. I thought it was good she built up to having one. That was, thematically, done well. I have no doubt new Force guy will have a lightsaber by default. I'm glad to see IA is keeping them to a minimum however.
  15. That's a beautiful list of units. I use nothing but Imperial units for my open groups. I love the overwhelm with the boys in white.
  16. If the players are taking an inordinate amount of time due to fear of getting crushed while making a suboptimal move, have you ever considered the possibility of a compromise of NOT punishing them for every bad move if they promise to speed up the game? It seems like, contextually, you yourself have caused them to need the time being taken in order to pull out a win. As I state in my disclaimer, I'm about to begin a campaign with high schoolers whose gaming experience has likely topped out at Apples to Apples and big games of Werewolf. I'm looking at my role more as a GM than an opponent bent on winning at all costs. With 25 years of gaming experience behind me, I'm pretty sure I could win every game if I so choose. If the Rebels get to a point to where they have to triple guess every single activation to make sure they do not make a minor mistake which causes the games to last hours on end, I'm not even sure why anyone would want to keep playing if no one is having fun. This is how I view my role as the Imperial Player. This is not a nationally televised poker tournament. There is no money at stake. Isn't the goal of playing games with your friends to have fun? I understand there are ultra competitive players, and some of them can be trying. I would rather we all had fun than "win". The deck is kind of stacked against the heroes unless they are very smart players, and even then, a bad run of dice an make or break an entire scenario. I appreciate that IA has this level of difficulty available, but it shouldn't be mandatory for the Imperial player to try to squash them as if they were an actual commissioned officer in the Imperial Navy. That is why some scenarios give the Imperial player choices on how punitive they want to be when an objective is met. If you have 5 people who want the hardcore raiding experience, then by all means crush those Rebel scum, but the people I play with aren't like that, and I'm more than happy to take it easy on them and allow for a few mistakes not to be game spoiling. After all, they are the heroes. Would we all be here today if that gunnery officer had determined that the pod containing those two famous droids was not caused by a malfunction and obliterated it? Or if Darth Vader had bounced Princess Leia off the way like he did to Captain Antilles? I do understand it is more heroic to triumph through impossible odds, but again, so many outcomes are determined by a randomizers like dice, luck of the draw, etc. There is a only a small niche of players who want a game where even if they act perfectly, they can still not win. As far as time limits go, I definitely think a timer should be used. I was in the infantry and then did VBSS when I switched to the Navy, you simply don't have all day to make decisions in a combat environment. Not saying there are any similarities to war fighting and playing games, but you are simulating those situations. I also agree the Imperial player should appoint a leader. Maybe we can rank the heroes from highest to lowest in a command structure with like Gideon at the top and MHD-19 at the bottom.
  17. Well, I edited Greedo for a more serious attempt at representing the character thanks to the great input by the community. Thanks! Ready for round two of polishing.
  18. Hoodie, I see what you are saying. Yeah, if we take a serious look at the character, and not a guy who may have just rolled a blank on the white die when Han shot him, your idea make a good mercenary agent. So this is what I'm looking at now 6 points. ~ Hide / ~ +1 damage / ~ +1 damage Abilities: Itchy Trigger Finger : If this character is hidden at the end of the round it gains Focus; Crafty : When defending add +1 ( ) for any blank result 5 health 5 speed White defense, Green-Green ranged attack. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm looking for a better word than crafty, but I like the ability.
  19. I had to look up Hide, and now I see it is a Bespin Gambit addition. I like the ability, although it shouldn't apply to a melee character, that seems to be the early steps towards GOWK territory. How do you "hide" when you are attacking someone in melee combat? It be more appropriate to a character like Mak. Anyway, it doesn't seem appropriate to Greedo's character either, but I'm not ruling it out. I was talking to a friend about it and he brought up that we don't know if Greedo was a bad shot or not, based on the OT's unmarred additions. He did get the drop on Solo, like a spider monkey, he was just BAM, "Oonta gonta, Solo?" So maybe he was a decent fighter, but Han just outmaneuvered him like Tuco in the bathtub. If you're going to shoot, shoot! Don't talk.
  20. Great additions. Hoodie, I had considered two greens and I think I'm going to actually modify it that way. I might actually go for a semi-serious Greedo here. I also like him being a spy and not a hunter, as I agree with you, he seemed like one of Jabba's lackeys that thought he might try and shake down Solo. Notice he wasn't interested in bring in Han, he wanted him to pay him to say "he didn't see him." So I think spy is a good option. Now, given what you said about him just appearing like that. How about a Nexu like ability where he can jump up to 3 spaces and make an attack and then if he fails to do damage, then the opponent gets to interrupt to make an attack? That prevents it from being more than once per turn. That would limit the abilities to 2, itchy trigger finger and disposable. Now to actually give him some utility, have him have weaken and stun attached to surges, rather than damage. I still think -1 accuracy is good. Thoughts?
  21. Rogue, That's a good Greedo. I like Itchy Trigger Finger. I think I'm going to change the card when I get home to reflect some of this. So were those damages based on Surges?
  22. a1bert, It was completely done tongue in cheek. I used a red dice because I wanted to limit his surges and accuracy. With the minus one accuracy the most he could hit from is 2 spaces. I was completely playing on the joke of George adding the missed point-blank shot by Greedo. I removed his ability to dodge, pretty much guaranteeing his death. At no point would this character help anyone do anything. I was just messing around with my template and thought, "we never got Greedo." The Hired Gun is essentially a Greedo esque character. If you've seen the special additions where they add the Hutt conversation in Docking by 94, you see a half dozen 'Greedo" characters, along with Boba. I've never looked at Greedo as a Bounty Hunter, but more like one of Jabba's mooks who thought he could get the jump on Han. Edit: Ooops, I think I mistoke your post for a serious one and not also have a laugh. My apologies.
  23. Anybody else hear this in the Dwight Schrute voice? From the Office? Yes. You have to do it Dwight Fashion. Wrong! You cannot shoot friendly players!
  24. How about Greedo? Edit: Can't believe I put "and" an attack, but there it is.
  25. As a1bert said, the ally packs and villain packs are side missions. You put their card in the side mission deck, or if everyone agrees you can play it outright. There is a number for when in the campaign that mission can be played. For instance, Han Solo is 2-4 (I think). So you can't play his mission after the 4th round of the campaign. In all cases the side mission includes either including that ally in your party, or that villain for the Imperial player.
