  1. Its not that they are slow that makes them a swarm unit, it is the fact that they are cheap to make so tons are built and as such they are a swarm unit. A matter of quantity over quality. That's not what traditionally makes a swarm unit in RPG terms. Swarm units are killer insects and giant rats. It was supposed to be harder to hit them because there were so many. That is not the case with the 'roger rogers' they are slow and easy to hit, but they have large number of combined fire.
  2. It really is hard to call slow, human sized automatons a swarm unit.
  3. I personally wouldn't want to see them at all, but if someone said to make them. I'd make 3 of them on a single base with a white dice and 3 health. I wouldn't take away their evade, and I would give them 3 green hit dice with the caveat that the attacking unit can only roll as many attack dice as the unit has health. So, if the unit is down to 1 health, it can only roll 1 attack dice. Then I'd make the card have 2 units. So 2 units are simulating 6 droids. Maybe surge for accuracy and weaken or something. Possibly surge for 1 damage.
  4. I remember channeling some sort of liquid refreshment through my nasal cavity when I first saw that. Still my favorite has to be Boba Fett taunting frozen in carbonite Solo on Slave 1.
  5. The Bespin Gambit cover art is one of my favorite depictions of him, so that one.
  6. Bombad Gungun: Whenever this character rolls an X, the damage of the attack is instead transferred back to the attacking character. The Attacker can interrupt to roll that models defense dice.
  7. I love many things about the Star Wars universe, but there are things I don't love. I hated Boba Fett's death, especially the b***h a** way that Lucas chose to depict it, but that was it. He was dead. So then there is the unofficial EU that Boba Fett lived, and everyone played along with that. We saw the Emperor destroyed in the same movie, but Zahn brings him back as a clone. So these are unofficial, but still licensed by LucasArts. But then... then, you have Lucas authorizing Filoni to bring back Darth Maul to sell more toys. So we have now a third example of the dead coming back to life in the Star Wars universe. Oh, I believe it will not be too long before we see Darth Maul in IA, though it could be that sock-head is acting as an ersatz Darth Maul. We will darn sure see Ahsoka before it is all said and done. Luke-Schmuke. Disney will probably release Magic Kingdom editions where Ahsoka is CGI'd in to replace Luke in the OT. Anyway, rant aside, the time periods either way are not important. As has been said, there is no official campaign meetings, so you can do what you want. For skirmish purposes, people will always want more characters. That's how Star Wars minis got so over bloated with really bad characters. As one poster at this site has shown, he is creating a whole campaign for imperial heroes.
  8. I like it. I don't know if I'd allow any open groups on this one. Maybe just allow Wing Guards and maybe Ugnauts. Otherwise this is a solid start.
  9. With the introduction of Bossk, I thought about creating a one-off campaign myself with using the Bounty Hunters. Boba, IG88, Dengar, and Bossk. You could have them fight Rebels AND Imperials. Boba = Jyn IG88 = MHD-19 Dengar = Diala Bossk = Biv ~D So using Bespin and maybe Hoth tiles, maybe create a campaign for 2 heroes where two Bounty Hunters hunt down Han Solo. Now, since Bossk and Boba have canonically worked together, you'd make hero cards for those two. Of course they'd be treated with the same rules you'd use if you only had two campaign heroes. They'd begin on Hoth with the objective being to secure intelligence about Rebel agents from Echo Base. I would say this would be against a wampa and some imperials who were left mopping up. I don't know where to go from there, but maybe someplace like Tatooine to hook up with some contact where they have to fight off rebel backed mercenaries. It would all eventually lead to Bespin for a confrontation with Lando, IG88, Dengar and some wing guards.
  10. I don't think anything said here matters a hill of beans to Filoni and friends. I am actually happy that Thrawn is back. I liked the character even though I think he could have been written better. I'm not EU fanboy. There was a great deal in the EU I hated. I'll cop to not liking Rebels. I was hoping for some departure from the main story and into a little bit more unexplored territory, but instead it is a compilation of Star Wars characters, cobbled together because too many people expect, or the creators expect they expect, the same old crap. It also seems the EU characters were stupid, until they were included in official canon, then they aren't. So I'm tired of the same characters over and over and over again. Maybe the ghost crew could have grown on me more if they weren't just the gel to put all the other IP characters into the show. Though I think the substandard, compared to Clone Wars, animation didn't help. And with all the characters they rehash, they don't bring in Boba Fett, who should be at the peak of his rep building about now. Though, to be fair, I'm not sure I want him included.
  11. As for variety, we have all of the stuff from Rebels and Rogue One. Plus FFG has never been shy on using Legends in the past and even making their own content! But I do agree, it would be a mistake to go overboard with yet another SW game! Empire: AT AT ; AT ST ; speeder bike ; A modified version of the troop carrier in the clone wars (which looks like a Hind helicopter); The single-seat walkers, repulsor tanks (as seen in IA); Squad units: Stormtroopers. Elites Stormtroopers. Named Stormtroopers (i.e. Havoc, 501st); Scout snipers, Anti-armor troopers, Special ops troopers (storm commandos who can paint targets for air strikes, do interdiction, etc). Rebels Large rolling heavy armor (similar to Clone Wars), speeder bikes, air speeders, and more different repulsor tanks. Squad units like Rebel Marines, Rebel Commandos, heavy weapon units. Mostly you can look through Star Wars miniatures for examples. Also, fixed fortifications like the Hoth turrets.
  12. I agree with this assessment. Man, you brought back some memories talking about Battletech and aerotech.
  13. The problem is how fast these vehicles are. And yes, I agree, Y-Wings would be doing the lion share of work on any ground game. They are going to streak by and drop their munitions and be off the battlefield in 1 turn. If you are running company level ground attack. I don't want to have to work out air superiority, which would be worked out in space most likely anyway, and fight ground vehicles. My personal opinion is it is just better to have a unit that points a laser at a target for an air strike. Snow Speeders, or air speeders as I call them, are perfect for simulating battlefield air assets, similar to helicopters. I would imagine the two schools of thought are Empire: Heavy armor, heavy weapons, slow. Rebellion: Speed, speed, speed. They would have their own lightly armored, for lack of a better word, land speeders with a mounted blaster and possibly an anti-armor misile, like a modern day TOW system.
  14. Ok, I haven't played Armada, but I look at it a bit like Armada. I don't think Tie Fighters and X-Wings should be included as miniatures. I think there should be attacks that simulate air strikes. I do think there should be heavy unilts, like AT AT and light, scout units like AT ST. I think there should be squads units, i.e. stormtroopers, rebel commandos, etc. Among those can be heavy weapon units, and anti-armor units. I completely agree on hexes. I do like playing X-wing, and I do like the measuring sticks, but it all becomes a bit much sometimes. But, like X-wing, players should have to announce movements before making them, and then their can be some kind of attribute that determines who goes first. I don't think you need pilots like in X-wing, but you should be able to have more elite version of certain units. Squads could be represented the same way as they are in squadrons are in Armada, but 3 figures, but in this case, three figures in slightly different poses. Obviously an AT AT will be bigger than a squad of troops, but we can't expect exact scale. Snow speeders, I think those should be units, as that seems to be the way the rebels choose to do scouting and close-air support. I definitely think speeder units are must, maybe represented by two speeders per unit.
  15. I'll lay out my problems with Rebels quickly. It is way to kiddie. That's fine if that's what you want, but I expect at least young adult, i.e. The Clone Wars which Rebels is not. The crew of the ghost is not great. I like Hera, the rest suck. I cannot stand Zeb and Sabine. I see they are going to advance Ezra couple of years, but the last two seasons he's been awful. I'm tired of recycled material like Darth Maul. His resurrection was a joke to begin with, but now its looking at absurd in the review mirror, and it's disappearing mighty fast. I didn't like Ahsoka much in TCW, but her appearance here is better, but now she carries the weight for a bunch of simplistic caricatures. The animation is terrible. Compare it to TCW and they must have had their budge slashed drastically to produce such a poor facsimile. There are a few good moments, but they are few and far between. Most of the time it doesn't raise to the level of up and coming 3D artist on a 3D forum. I honestly don't know why everyone wants a boxed set of Rebels. I could see an ally pack or two, but the heroes in IA are already much more compelling without any backgrounds than the Rebels crew is. And I don't want to even get into the corny disposable keystone-stormtroopers.
  16. I'm not bothered near as much by Greedo and Obi Wan, as I was with the inquisitor. I was pleasantly surprised by a Greedo. At least Greedo an Obi Wan existed in the OT. The inquisitor just seems like a nod to kiddies. Here's your helicopter lightsaber force users baddies. I hate them. Still, I knew it was going to happen. I'm not fan of Ugnauts either. I promise you, eventually, Ewoks will come to this game, and they will be better than Stormtroopers as well, and I will not be pleased. I liked IA because it seemed a little more serious compared to Star Wars minis' multiverse timelines concept of just having everyone from every era fighting each other. After a while factions became meaningless because there were so many figures that could bridge the factions. Let's just hope we never see the Yuuzhan Yong in Imperial Assault. For me, I try to stick to canon for campaigns, but for skirmish, well that's different. After years of playing SWM I don't have any desire to play skirmish. Maybe FFG's next game can be a ground version of X-Wing. Then we can have all the vehicles that don't really fit in a squad based combat.
  17. To be fair, or fairer as you've said, when I was collecting Star Wars miniatures they were $11 to $14 a box for 7 miniatures, and I have enough common stormtroopers to field a Legion of the Emperor's finest troops. Tracking down the Rares and the very rare figures was expensive. When I wanted Boba Fett Bounty Hunter, one of the best pre-General Obi Wan Kenobi pieces, he was $50 at Miniature Market, and that is after a case of Bounty Hunters, which cost over $100, failed to produce one. So far, I've felt like IA has been far cheaper, as I'm buying what I want, and not chasing rare miniatures. Additionally, FFG sculpts are amazing compared to WOTC. And if they are well painted, look much better than the very basic paints on the Star Wars Miniatures figures. And, if you need anymore miniatures from the SWM collection, just ask, I'm sure I have many of what you need, and I'd probably part with them just to unload the big box of bagged figures I have.
  18. Bespin arrived today from the Cool Stuff sale, along with Bossk (can't wait till I get Greedo). I hope to have a chance to play this weekend, even if it some solo play. So I hope to have an opinion soon.
  19. I must be a rarity that I try to help the players win. I don't lay down for them, but I don't try to crush them either. As I said in another thread, I'm glad that "nightmare" version of the game exists, but I don't play with hard core players, and as I look at it, they are the heroes. Now, that being said, it is only heroic if it defies the odds, but I like the odds to be only slightly against them most of the time. On the subject of R5. I think having the players have instant access to crate supplies is a little too much, but I think not being to trade is ridiculous.
  20. I've always thought a great parody scene, before I saw AOTC, that it would be good if Yoda was being carried by some Jedi trainee and he is watching potential knights do their sword skills. Then he stops, adjusts the saber form of one of the students, and then, without showing any emotion, force throws the student backwards. Instead, we got younglings.
  21. I think that should be red because "Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of the women" seems more Sith-y to me. Still, great gif.
  22. X-Wing is expensive, but some great models. I actually have the main game but I play X-Wing on Virtual Tabletop. I get the fun in without the elaborate setup.
